So i have had a lot of success (in chinese*) with migaku helping me move from intermediate to advanced, particularly in understanding. I was stuck in Chinese listening to “comprehensible input” (80/20) but it was keeping my listening stagnant. Once i moved to 50/50 listening only to native content (not CI designed for learners but actual shows people watch in China), my comprehension went through the roof.

My question is if this is possible to do with Japanese. Currently i am a beginner. I can understand most of the “absolute beginner” videos on CIJ (yuki’s channel) unassisted, but after that it gets spotty.

Has anyone moved from a beginner level to a higher level by grinding native content?

I know all the typical suggestions, textbooks, bunpo, etc. I’m actually just looking for an opinion on the efficacy of using the specific method above. Thank you in advance. (I’m a native English speaker, btw).

I had the feeling I couldn't poop for some reason for two days, I also had some sickness from being exposed to too much AC (the doctor said), the doctor gave me medicine against the other stuff which works wonderfully. But my stomach hurt a lot so I ordered a 1 liter bottle of prune juice because I heard it helps against constipation.

Once it arrived I drank the whole bottle at once just to be sure, because I heard it's a natural mild laxative and my stomach hurt so much.

And it worked very well, after 2 hours I was running to the toilet and getting rid of whatever was stuck in there. It worked very well, my stomach stopped hurting after one more hour, wonderful!

But I didn't need to drink the whole bottle, I'm stuck on the toilet the whole afternoon now because as soon as I get out, 2 minutes later I need to run back in, so it's just easier to stay on it.

I think like a cup or two might have been enough.

Georgian President Salome Zurabishvili warned that Russia’s evolving sophisticated hybrid strategy in Georgia could have wider geopolitical consequences for Europe if the bloc loses the country it had granted candidate status. She received an enthusiastic reception from the audience, with her speech interrupted several times by applause.

Speaking at the French Renaissance party rally in Paris on 6 April, Zurabishvili urged the European Union to act decisively against authoritarian influences within its ranks.

...

“The European Union must be able to show that it can take decisions, that it can have a coherent policy and that it can speak out — that it is not in the hands of several countries that are already well on the path to advancing totalitarianism,” she said, in an apparent reference to Viktor Orban’s Hungary, which is blocking EU efforts against the Georgian Dream.

...

Zurabishvili argued that President Vladimir Putin’s all-out war in Ukraine had failed and that Russia is now testing a “new strategy” in Georgia – one characterized by “less cost” and “less direct attack.”

She said Georgia has become a “testing ground” for this hybrid strategy, citing “sophisticated” electoral manipulation and a “proxy oligarch”, a reference to Bidzina Ivanishvili, through whom she said Russia had achieved an “almost total usurpation” of the Georgian state.

...

“This is a geopolitical challenge because the loss of Georgia (which is not and will not happen) is not insignificant. It’s the Black Sea, it’s the Caucasus, it’s the fate of European Armenia, it’s the route to Central Asia – it’s a region that deeply concerns you. But above all, it is a challenge for the EU.”

...

Zurabishvili urged the defense of democracy on all fronts. “We have to defend democracy everywhere. This means, first of all, the European institutions; it’s a European rearmament, of course – but it’s also a moral rearmament, a political rearmament, the ability to make decisions together”.

Elon Musk is done at DOGE, but we're just getting started.

Elon is still deeply tied to the Trump regime, still fueling conspiracies and fascist rhetoric, and still using his immense wealth to warp government policy and buy elections around the globe.

On June 28—Elon's birthday—let's celebrate everything we've achieved and a recommit to the long fight still ahead.

And our birthday gift to the Broligarch in Chief? A global party with one powerful message: Musk Must Fall.

Belgrade (AFP) – Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic insisted Sunday that he would not cave in to the 140,000 protesters who rallied in the capital overnight demanding early elections, while vowing more arrests after clashes broke out.

Saturday's rally was one of the largest in more than half a year of demonstrations triggered by the roof collapse at a train station in the city of Novi Sad in November, killing 16 people -- a disaster widely blamed on entrenched corruption.

Unlike previous gatherings, which took place without incident, clashes erupted between demonstrators and riot police.

"Serbia has won, and you cannot defeat Serbia by violence as some wanted," Vucic said in a public address.

He accused the student-led movement of causing "terror" and promised there would be more arrests over the violence.

AFP journalists saw riot police using tear gas and batons as protesters hurled flares and bottles at rows of officers in several clashes following the massive gathering in Belgrade.

Authorities said 48 officers were injured, one seriously, and put the crowd size at 36,000 -- well below an independent estimate by the Archive of Public Gatherings of around 140,000.

Interior Minister Ivica Dacic said 22 people sought medical help, of whom two were seriously injured.

Police detained 77 people, with 38 still in custody, according to Dacic.

"There will be many more arrested for attacking police... this is not the end," Vucic said.

He added that there would be "no negotiations with terrorists and those who wanted to destroy the state -- accountability follows".

"Revenge must not be our language, but responsibility must be part of our consciousness," he said.

Later on Sunday, six people were arrested on accusations of several crimes, including planning to block roads and attack state institutions "in order to violently change the state order", the Higher Prosecutor's Office said in a statement.

An operation was ongoing, the statement said.

Protest organisers meanwhile called for the release of a "large number of citizens" and "numerous students", and announced a rally in front of the prosecutor's office.

"This is not a moment for withdrawal," the protest group said on Instagram.

Ahead of Saturday's protest, organisers had issued an "ultimatum" for Vucic to call elections -- a demand he rejected well before the rally began.

On Sunday, he reiterated there would not be any national vote before the end of 2026.

The outcry over the Novi Sad disaster has already led to the resignation of the country's prime minister.

Yet the governing party has kept power, with a reshuffled administration and the president still in office.

Vucic has repeatedly alleged the protests are part of a foreign plot to destroy his government.

After the rally, organisers played a statement to the crowd calling for Serbians to "take freedom into your own hands" and giving them the "green light".

"The authorities had all the mechanisms and all the time to meet the demands and prevent an escalation," the organisers said in a statement on Instagram.

Hello Self-Hosters,

What is the best practice for backing up data from docker as a self-hoster looking for ease of maintenance and foolproof backups? (pick only one :D )

Assume directories with user data are mapped to a NAS share via NFS and backups are handled separately.

My bigger concern here is how do you handle all the other stuff that is stored locally on the server, like caches, databases, etc. The backup target will eventually be the NAS and then from there it'll be double-backed up to externals.

  1. Is it better to run #cp /var/lib/docker/volumes/* /backupLocation every once in a while, or is it preferable to define mountpoints for everything inside of /home/user/Containers and then use a script to sync it to wherever you keep backups? What pros and cons have you seen or experienced with these approaches?

  2. How do you test your backups? I'm thinking about digging up an old PC to use to test backups. I assume I can just edit the ip addresses in the docker compose, mount my NFS dirs, and failover to see if it runs.

  3. I started documenting my system in my notes and making a checklist for what I need to backup and where it's stored. Currently trying to figure out if I want to move some directories for consistency. Can I just do docker-compose down edit the mountpoints in docker-compose.yml and run docker-compose up to get a working system?
