Like the Palestine-Israel conflict which a lot has happened since it started, you can barely argue or talk about it if you are literally out of the loop without mistepping because its just a too complex situation for us westerners.

Assuming sex with another person is not an option. What are some good ways to release or divert sexual frustration?

When do decorations usually go up and come down? Are there any unique traditions?

And people who aren't part of any of these, do you think you are "missing" something?

I am bad at explaining but i can visualize something like the blue "guideline" (or arrows) in this image

And i simply want to know how this ability is called

It would be different from https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Apophenia because i can add things and not only see connections/patterns

I know the most common advice is to join local groups/clubs, but my town seems to only have religious, DnD, and MtG groups publicly posted, and as much as I've tried I just can't get into playing DnD/MtG

Does anyone have any app recomendations they've had luck with, or other advice?

We seriously need to differentiate servers, otherwise the decentralization is useless.

If you don't, no need to reply telling me you don't. I live in the woods with some critters. I live pretty far from neighbors/police so having a gun gives me peace of mind. I also hunt and consider myself a gun hobbiest. I enjoy shooting targets, cleaning/organizing, reloading and earning food with guns.

I'm just a casual gamer, I absolutely loved the score in Skyrim and Oblivion but when trying to find other good ambience music for caves/ruins/dungeons I was a bit stumped. I've found people creating this kind of ambient soundtracks and that's great, but I'm still curious about the videogame ones. I tried searching for that and failed.

I'm looking for eerie, natural or mysterious types of tracks, nothing too high energy. The platform or genre of the game doesn't matter.

Have you got any good examples?

The radiator makes unbearable noises throu out the night, which drives her insane. We think that this is due to air pockets in the pipes, we can hear crackling and water drops.

The heating system is common to the whole building, and I cant turn off hot water.

How do i open this shit

Sorry if this is weird, I'm trying to navigate parent-child relationships and I'm just curious what this is like from the parents' perspective.

Of any kind. Commuting, road biking, touring, mountain biking etc.

Been a cyclist of various types for 20 years now. Never seems to be non-controversial. Even among other cyclists... many hate other types of cyclists. And now there is a lot of specific e-bike hate/controversy.

I don't get it man. What do you think?

IME assholes are assholes regardless of being on a bike or not.

I want to try Lemmy, but most of the stuff I see are reposts or memes I had seen before on Reddit.

Anything attractive here?

For my birthday, my spouse got me a nicer newer expensive version of a thing I already have. The one I have is older and dented but works just fine. I use it weekly. I never complain about it. I've never asked for a newer one. The one I have was given to me by my mother in law, whom I adore. It's sentimental.

I don't like new things. When they got me a 3d printer, it was the cheapest one and it was a kit and I had to build myself. I loved it. It's perfect for me. I regularly buy things used or get things from Buy Nothing groups. I much prefer to repair old things in many ways. My car has over 100k miles. The one before did too. I don't like new things.

We got into a huge argument because I want to return it. They are so upset with me that they left the house to calm down. Why am I the bad person? Why are they mad at me? I have a very clear tendency for old broken used things. Why am I obligated to like this new thing?

We literally established a rule early in our marriage. I'm not allowed to gift nerdy t shirts. They don't like them. I love them. I thought they would like them but they do not. So they asked me to stop. This feels the same. I do not like new things. Why am I the bad guy for wanting to return the newer version of the thing I already have?

My wife and I are currently driving cross country (US), and earlier in the day we stopped at a Pilot gas station in Tennessee.

I exited the vehicle, tapped my card on the thing to authorize my card and pay, got about 30 bucks of gas, then went inside and paid for a drink and snacks with a different card.

300 miles later, we stop at another gas station and while we do we check our cards and notice a 150 dollar charge on the same card used for gas at that exact Pilot. Strangely the 30 dollar charge for the gas was there too. We immediately call our credit card company and they say its a pending charge and cannot do anything about it until its went through, so we pause the card.

I call the gas station itself and spoke to a manager, and was told its an authorization charge and will go away. 150 dollars is a crazy amount for an authorization charge and makes little sense to me, has anyone ever experienced this before? Is it normal?

(Meta: I didn't know where else to put this, but wanted to ask my fellow Lemmites, is that okay?)

Update: The charge has been removed from our account, so alls good. This is the first time I have ever seen an authorization charge so big, so it scared me, thanks to everyone for informing me on these charges, I'll know to keep my eye out in the future and not worry so much!

In Oklahoma, the requirement usually is up to “algebra 2” - this is mostly domain and range, finding roots of polynomials, and logarithms.

IMHO, the world would be better if calculus was a required part of the high school curriculum. Like yeah, most people aren’t going to need the product rule in day to day life, but the fundamental ideas about rates of change seem like they’re something that everyone human deserves to be exposed to.

See title. I've been to quite a few local language meetups and saw lots of people IRL who are learning languages: wondering how are y'all doing too

For myself... learning French due to necessity. I am making progress, just veeery slow. I underestimated how difficult it would be (a lot of vocabs between English/French are similar... but the languages themselves are not!)

Flavor does not matter, presentation does not matter but the food shouldn't make you sick, and should ideally have enough calories per day for the average person to survive (2000 kcal min).

Edit: I am not in any danger of starving or malnutrition, nor am I insolvent. I'm mainly asking this question out of curiosity on how people would approach a solution :)

Basically the title, you need to use the skills you have now and be a productive member of society.

I don't mean go back and show the wheel or try invent germ theory etc.

For example I'm a mechanic i think I could go back to the late 1800s and still fix and repair engines and steam engines.

Maybe even take that knowledge further back and work on the first industrial machines in the late 1700s but that's about it.
