You're right, apologies bad math lol. Still it doesn't make sense because the average H1B salary is $120k, and people are not going to take $100k pay cut to stay in the US.

This has no chance of surviving court. ~~There are currently 730,000 H1B visa holders in the US. At some point, they have to leave and renew their visa. The cost of H1B renewal to companies, hospitals and universities alone would be 0.73 TRILLION dolarydoos. You are asking tech companies to pay 10% of the whole federal budget to support their workers. JP Morgan whole market cap, including assets is less than 0.7 trillion.~~

EDIT: fucked up my math. It'll cost companies, hospitals, and universities 73 billion a year. Still no chance of surviving court.

If they make it large and make it hurt, but not unreasonable like $2k per person it might be more believeable and has more chance to stay. $100k is comical, they missed the mark by a couple of zeros. Deeply unserious.

Took your time huh Bernard?

EVERGREEN — The 16-year-old boy who shot two students and then himself at Evergreen High School this week appeared to espouse white supremacist views online and showed an interest in mass shooters in the days before the attack.

Social media accounts that appear to be connected to shooter Desmond Holly are littered with references to mass shootings and antisemitic views, The Denver Post found.

Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Jacki Kelley on Thursday said Desmond had been “radicalized through an extremist network,” but declined to offer any additional details. The public accounts offer some insight into what that radicalization might have included.

In one photo posted on TikTok five days ago, Desmond appears to be wearing a black T-shirt with the word “Wrath” written in red across the chest — similar to what one of the attackers wore in the 1999 massacre at Columbine High School, also in Jefferson County. The same post also includes an image of the 15-year-old who killed two people and injured six more at a Madison, Wisconsin, school in December.

A post on X about an hour before Wednesday’s attack shows an image of a hand holding a revolver — the type of weapon that authorities confirmed Desmond used during the attack. Representatives for the sheriff’s office did not answer specific questions about the social media accounts.

The accounts also include references to Holocaust denial, and the name of one of the accounts appeared to end with a reference to a prominent white supremacist slogan. That account reposted several videos showing school shooting scenes from movies, as well as another video that appeared to show the two Columbine shooters taking target shots at bowling pins. Other videos the account reposted were explicitly antisemitic or depicted people in Nazi uniforms.

The current tariffs were made purely from executive decision, as such, it can easily be rolled back via court challenges or policy reversal by the next administration, or even current administration after a bad midterm election defeat. The current tariff policy is as prescient as Michelle Obama's "eat your veggies" campaign. Both are purely executive mandates.

Why would capital bother to invest in building factories, which is at least a 20, 30, 40 years commitment under these uncertainties. Just invest in bonds and wait it out lmao. Indeed American manufacturing is even more fucked than before.

President Prabowo Subianto of Indonesia said on Sunday that the country’s House of Representatives had agreed to some policy changes that protesters across the country had been demanding over a week of demonstrations.

Thousands of protesters in several major Indonesian cities have been rallying since Monday in response to the country’s increasing cost of living and rising unemployment rate. Demonstrators demanded that the government cancel the high monthly housing allowances that lawmakers received, which many in the country see as lavish.

Mr. Prabowo’s announcement came after rioters on Sunday directed their rage at the homes of lawmakers and government officials, ransacking, vandalizing and looting the properties.

I'm not an expert in Indonesian politics, but it is kind of funny. A month ago, the only reason the protesters made international news was they adapted the One Piece pirate flag. Now they came true with their promise, looted the houses of lawmakers lol, and the ruling class was immediately rattled. If only we could loot Nancy Pelosi's ice cream fridge

White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said the local and federal weather services provided sufficient warnings to the Kerr County community before the floods.

“That was an act of God. It’s not the administration’s fault that the flood hit when it did, but there were early and consistent warnings and, again, the National Weather Service did its job”

Leavitt said. She outlined that on July 3, the NWS office in Austin-San Antonio conducted briefings for local officials and issued a flood watch in the early afternoon. That was followed by numerous flood warnings on the night of July 3 and in the pre-dawn hours of July 4, giving a lead time of three hours before the flash flood. In response to a subsequent question about the warnings and why they were issued when people were likely asleep, Leavitt repeated that the offices were fully staffed.
