Welcome to c/news! Please read the Hexbear Code of Conduct and remember... we're all comrades here.

Rules:

-- PLEASE KEEP POST TITLES INFORMATIVE --

Overly editorialized titles, particularly if they link to opinion pieces, may get your post removed.

All posts must include a link to their source. Screenshots are fine IF you include the link in the post body.

If you are citing a Twitter post as news, please include not just the twitter.com URL but also xcancle.org (or another Nitter instance). There is also a Firefox extension that can redirect Twitter links to a Nitter instance, such as Libredirect or archive them as you would any other reactionary source (archive.today, web.archive.org, ghostarchive.org). Twitter screenshots still need to be sourced or they will be removed.

Mass-tagging comm moderators across multiple posts like a broken Markov chain bot will result in a comm ban.

Repeated consecutive posting of reactionary sources, fake news, misleading / outdated news, false alarms over ghoul deaths, and/or shitposts will result in a comm ban.

Neglecting to use content warnings or NSFW when dealing with disturbing content will be removed until in compliance. Users who are consecutively reported due to failing to use content warnings or NSFW tags when commenting on or posting disturbing content will result in the user being banned.

Using April 1st as an excuse to post fake headlines, like the resurrection of Kissinger while he is still fortunately dead, will result in the poster being thrown in the gamer gulag and be sentenced to play and beat trashy mobile games like 'Raid: Shadow Legends' in order to be rehabilitated back into general society.

If Israel loses Kirk’s base, it really is in crisis in the U.S. discourse.

The question I have that never really translates to discussion irl is why that even matters. I see them talking a lot about shit like TikTok and shifting views, but when's the last time popular sentiment made the machine do anything? What the fuck does it matter if 98% of America can't stand their stinking rotten guts?

[–] ufcwthrowaway@hexbear.net 22 points 2 weeks ago

Public will doesnt matter but constituency does. If there are people in power who want to be anti- Israel and think there's an anti Israel donor base, it frees them up to take that position

The real question is if there's more mtgs in congress

[–] jack@hexbear.net 17 points 2 weeks ago

Why do you think they try so hard to control public opinion if it doesn't matter?

[–] Frogmanfromlake@hexbear.net 16 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

I’ve been wondering that too. There was a lot of anti-Bush stuff online and the internet was largely against the Iraq war during that time period, but the war still happened.

[–] ClathrateG@hexbear.net 11 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

The biggest protests ever in the US and worldwide to date were the anti-Iraq invasion ones, didn't do a god damn thing to stop it

Not advocating doomerism or not getting involved in protest, but clearly non-disruptive protest don't affect much by themselves

Didn't BLM 2020 take the top spot? I thought it did, it was claimed at the time and I guess I never checked

[–] ClathrateG@hexbear.net 2 points 2 weeks ago

The anti-war demos had larger single day numbers, but totalling multiple days together more came out for BLM

So I guess it goes by whatever criteria you're applying to select the top

Using that example, is "the war happened because Bush was there." Popular demand did not matter.

The question then is what happens when popular demand changes and voting habits change as a result? What happens if a fairly earnest anti-imperialist is elected? Trump ran on being against wars (twice, hilariously). He correctly called Hillary a warmonger; he just sort of left out the "and I will be too." Without a political record to hold against him it was harder, before his first term, to say "he's definitely lying!"

My point in bringing up Trump (or Sanders putting aside his actual policies and stances and focusing on his "imagined rhetoric" ie how people regard him which is anti-imperialist) is there is clearly a not always subtle, though rarely directly addressed, undercurrent of anti-war from the American populace. Whatever their reasoning people kind of tend to not like wars if they can't see a justification for them (that's kind of key though obviously).

The logical next step is if people are truly against unjustifiable (to them) wars, and they elect a real anti-imperialist, and let's say the CIA doesn't day one just sort of make their head do a weird thing. Then the US has an anti-imperialist president. Or majority in congress. That president/congress, being actually earnestly anti-war, actually abide by the will of the people to avoid conflicts.

One could argue that hypothetical person will never be elected or they'll get CIA/FBI popped day one, etc. The fact is though... that could happen. That person could be elected. That's what Israel and the military industrial complex and all those who suckle on its innumerable teats fear most. They don't care about opinion right now. They're gonna do what they want popular opinion be damned. They care about in 5, 10, 25, 50 years down the line. All it theoretically takes is one election to quite literally vaporize Israel.

Most of the zionists in the US only support Isreal because they think it will trigger prophecies from the Bible. Some zionists understand Isreal is the way for US to project power over the region, but the majority think God needs help setting off the Rapture. They don't actually give a shit about Jews or Israelis. They just want a world war to start that results in the Third Temple being built.

All this to say, it really doesn't matter if 98% of Americans hate Isreal. The politicians and leaders will still support Isreal to maintain control over neighboring countries by the threat of violence. The true believer fundamentalists will still support Isreal because their plan results in Isreal's destruction either way. And a third population already hates Isreal (neo-nazis), but they hate Arabs and Muslims even more.

Pushing something against public sentiment is much more expensive and inefficient, even if they still can do it.

[–] NephewAlphaBravo@hexbear.net 38 points 2 weeks ago (6 children)

this is basically all due to some imaginary change of heart on kirk's part and the resultant conspiracies, right? what a bunch of fucking dweebs

[–] oscardejarjayes@hexbear.net 39 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

right-wingers are going to be making up a bunch of conspiracy theories no matter what, so it's better that the target is Israel and not random trans people.

[–] purpleworm@hexbear.net 18 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

The target is, in large part, Jews rather than Israel, as can be seen in the "coverage" from one of the biggest proponents of this line, Candace Owens.

[–] spectre@hexbear.net 14 points 2 weeks ago

Interesting they're trying the "woke right" counternarrative

[–] Azarova@hexbear.net 25 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

That, and "israel" instantly stating "WE DIDN'T DO IT :^)" before the body was cold

[–] ClathrateG@hexbear.net 7 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

Pissrael benefits from planting the 'we did it' conspiracy seed: it can make people believe the Mossad is all powerful thereby scaring public figures into not speaking against them, and by increasing anti-Semitism in the US and elsewhere abroad which can make Jewish people feel unsafe to whit pissrael offers themselves as a (not actually)safe haven for them to move to increasing there tax base and conscription pool.

[–] Lemmygradwontallowme@hexbear.net 6 points 2 weeks ago (4 children)

When does a corpse turn cold?

[–] purpleworm@hexbear.net 22 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago) (1 children)

It's driven by convection, so it depends on the heat of the corpse relative to the heat of the surrounding environment, along with the physical condition of the body itself. Assuming an average male body mass, 98.6 degrees F internal temperature, a room temperature of 75 degrees F, and a basically intact corpse wearing light clothing, I looked it up and algor mortis takes about 22 hours to complete. This also assumes normal humidity and no wind.

Usually after the IOF extracts the reproductive material from fallen male combatants

[–] Evilsandwichman@hexbear.net 14 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

Kirk was pretty cold in life, so his death probably instead warmed him up for a few seconds

[–] Ram_The_Manparts@hexbear.net 6 points 2 weeks ago

Heat is stored in the balls

[–] Kefla@hexbear.net 4 points 2 weeks ago

His neck definitely got pretty warm for a few seconds at least

[–] Azarova@hexbear.net 7 points 2 weeks ago

idk, it's just a saying

[–] Robert_Kennedy_Jr@hexbear.net 22 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago) (1 children)

OK but their videos saying they definitely didn't kill Kirk has a lot of people asking questions already answered by their videos.

[–] Le_Wokisme@hexbear.net 12 points 2 weeks ago

i need a way to not believe either side

[–] WhatDoYouMeanPodcast@hexbear.net 18 points 2 weeks ago

He said something critical of Israel shortly before he died and then got sniped solidly. Lord help me I forget what the clip was - but I think a change of heart is a good way to describe it in form. In magnitude it might be too much because I didn't exactly see him decrying the evils of genocide.

The conspiracies were from things like having that old guy claim to have done it, finding a rifle that the guy wasn't seen leaving the roof with, and shit like that. Israel's involvement as a scapegoat came from antisemitism, Netenyahu immediately speaking on it, Netty claiming it wasn't Israel, and Israel's history of doing shit.

[–] ThomasMuentzner@hexbear.net 9 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

Nethanyu held 3 speeches reiterating it wasnt him. Bgood on you to fight his battle...

[–] godlessworm@hexbear.net 6 points 2 weeks ago

i actually think china had him killed, because right before it happened he made a video talking about how china strayed from the true path of marxism and has been corrupted by capitalism since the dengist reforms

[–] JoeByeThen@hexbear.net 35 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Israel should pop another conservative podcaster... just to be on the safe side.

[–] BobDole@hexbear.net 27 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Surely, if they pop debate-me-debate-me Shabibo no one will suspect them.

[–] JoeByeThen@hexbear.net 24 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Especially if they very loudly proclaim it wasn't them.

[–] Kefla@hexbear.net 11 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

They should engrave "I am not employed by the Israeli government" on each bullet casing just to be sure

[–] micnd90@hexbear.net 30 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Why there is no exit wound? Where is the bullet? This could've been a ragweed allergy attack. STEEL BEAMS DON'T BEND BULLETS wake up sheeple! Tyler Robinson IS A PATSY

[–] Robert_Kennedy_Jr@hexbear.net 24 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

The evidence is so contradictory and sketchy that I really don't believe he was the shooter at this point. Like did he disassemble the rifle on the roof, then reassemble it and leave it in the woods? If he used a 30-06 why didn't Kirk's head turn into confetti or pop off like he was a jack in the box? What 20 year is saying "vehicle" instead of their whip???

[–] BodyBySisyphus@hexbear.net 17 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

What 20 year is saying "vehicle" instead of their whip

Someone who was brought up Mormon in suburban Utah. They're in their own little linguistic bubble out there.

[–] Zezzy@hexbear.net 13 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Why do people keep saying this? I've lived nearby and known lots of 20 something mormons and none of them text or talk any different from the non mormons in the nearby areas (other than pronouncing milk as mɛlk and pillow as pɛlow)

[–] ClathrateG@hexbear.net 5 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

pɛlow

is that like peelow or pehlow?

[–] femboi@hexbear.net 8 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

That IPA symbol makes the 'eh' sound so pehlow, I'm not from Mormon country though

[–] ClathrateG@hexbear.net 1 points 2 weeks ago

Mormon's after a heavy soaking session "plɛase suck my pɛnis"

[–] ClathrateG@hexbear.net 16 points 2 weeks ago

The left is getting better at comedy, and the israel lobby is worried

None of this shit makes sense and I guess that's the point of crank conspiracies but I will say this much: MTG can go on twitter and blame everything on the jews and she faces no real opposition to doing so or loses sway within the republican party.
