Edit/Update: It turns out that my last name has a capitol letter in the middle and they put a space in it. Thank god. I can actually vote this year.

hi, i'm daniel. i'm a 15-year-old with some programming experience and i do a little bug hunting in my free time. here's the insane story of how I found a single bug that affected over half of all Fortune 500 companies:

Was trying to read a news story and... What fresh shitfuckery is this? Why do I now have to pay money to a company just for the privilege of not being spied upon and not getting your cookies that I don't want or need? How is this even legal?

RE: "Why are you even reading that shitrag?" -- I clicked on a link someone posted in another sublemmit, didn't realise it was the Sun till after. I do not read the Sun on the regular, chill. My point stands regardless that this is extremely shitty and should probably not be allowed.

The app is Clime Pro on iOS, they lock full access to Hurricane Milton data behind a $10 USD per week paywall.

If you’re in the area impacted by Milton, you can find publicly available resources at the National Hurricane Center’s website: National Hurricane Center

... and they use YouTube to host their informational videos.

Just a sampling from last week. Every single one of these is the same scam. I had another seven yesterday.

I never answer and they always leave the same prerecorded voicemail message (although that message seems to change every few days) about me owing taxes, which I absolutely don't.

I also get most of them within an hour, which makes it even more annoying.

And yes, I'm on the do not call list.

Someone please make it stop!

Looks innocuous enough at first glance right? Let's zoom in on the problem:

These don't go together. If the semicircle on the left is correct, then this is showing moon phases, and the symbol on the right should be of a gibbous moon:

If the cookie-with-a-bite-taken-out in the right is correct, then this is showing an eclipse, and the symbol on the left should be of a 50% partial eclipse:

It drives me crazy every time I look at it.

Dr Becky, PBS Space Time and Angela Collier all release on the same days. Giving me one big day filled with quality astro physics. But leaving all other days devoid of good content. It would be nicer if they staggered a little.

Posting here for a lack of !verymildlyinconvenient.

At this point its getting ridiculous.

Their point 2 even states that even if you do pay them, they will still use cookies to track you and show personalised content

Granted, I was going to slap it onto one of my parent’s shiny kitchen appliances and make jokes about it being a mistake to let them have WiFi…. But still…..

For some reason I was back in Chrome today, and I searched Google, without meaning to, for:

get channel id for a youtube channel

Here's what I got:

✨ AI Overview Learn more … To find a YouTube channel's ID, you can: Use the YouTube account settings Sign in to YouTube, select your profile picture, then Settings, and then Advanced settings. You must be signed in as the channel's primary owner to see this information.

That's great, but I am not the channel's primary owner, and surely the majority of the time the person seeking an answer to this question will not be, also.

Use the channel's URL Click on the channel's name under any of its videos, and then look at the URL of that page. The handle will appear at the end of the link, preceded by the @ sign.

?

That is not the channel ID.

Use the page source code View the page source code of any video from the channel, and look for the "channelid" keyword.

I felt a little stingy at this point, because this sounds like a real solution.

I opened the source for the channel page, and searched the source code for channelid, and found nothing.

Then, while typing this complaint, I noticed that I was supposed to do that from a random video's page, so I opened one of the videos, did that, and found nothing.

A YouTube channel can have multiple URLs that direct viewers to the channel homepage. These URLs can look different, but they all point to the same channel.

Irrelevant information. How do I find the channel ID?

Generative AI is experimental. 👍 👎

Thanks Google! I know.

Sign in to YouTube. Settings . From the left menu, select Advanced settings. You'll see your channel's user and channel IDs.

I clicked on Stack Overflow, closed several popups. The top answer wasn't useful. I did find a couple of answers down:

"To obtain the channel id you can view the source code of the channel page and find either data-channel-external-id="UCjXfkj5iapKHJrhYfAF9ZGg" or "externalId":"UCjXfkj5iapKHJrhYfAF9ZGg".

UCjXfkj5iapKHJrhYfAF9ZGg will be the channel ID you are looking for.

I tried that, and it didn't work.

Back to Google:

And it worked! I get 2 free channel ID queries per day. Fortunately I only needed the one. But it worked! It only took several minutes of scrolling past multiple screens of things that didn't work.

Now let's compare that to DDG.

It started about a week ago. I noticed a sticky feeling on my hands so I washed them (as I do regularly). Unfortunately it wasn't long before the feeling came back. I've started noticing it on everything I frequently touch - mouse/keyboard, Xbox controller, phone, on and on. I tried household cleaner, rubbing alcohol, water/soap on these surfaces and it seems to help for a short while, but it comes back within hours. Just now I gave my phone a good wipe with soapy water and as soon as it dried it feels sticky again.

I'm not sure what else to try or how to get rid of it.

Possible culprits I can guess at: -pollen? the cars around here have been covered in greenish yellow powder which I have seen before, but never experienced this stickyness. I don't use my car / touch the door handles very often.

-some sort of plastic or rubber is degrading, maybe my phone case? It's an Otterbox that's over 6 years old.

-a little weed container I bought around the same time this started, maybe the store had vape juice spilled on it? But I don't touch it often enough to warrant the spread of this profound stickyness.

Any ideas are welcome. It's driving me nuts.

We pay to go to a live show. The crowd is excited to see the artist. You can feel it in the air. They appear on stage, plug in, start with a quiet but heartfelt acoustic number.

And 600 people keep their conversations going.

What. The. Hell. People?

Between songs, the artist makes polite but vague statements about how even with the PA, he can't compete with all that noise.

They keep talking.

Grrrrrrr...

Pretty much every major shopping website has terrible search functionality.

I usually want something very specific, for example 60w dimmable e12 frosted warm led bulb. I have not found a single shopping website that won't show me results without many of these terms in the description. I don't want to see listings that say 40w and don't say 60w anywhere, and it isn't hard to filter them out!

Are these shopping websites bad on purpose? What's in it for them?
