Context: I noticed I have some clothes from 10 years ago that are still good to wear, and some newer things I have barely worn yet. I wondered if I reached a point where all the clothes I own would be enough to last for the rest of my life. There is a dresser and a closet worth of things.

For the sake of this question, let's say you can't buy, borrow, steal, receive as a gift, find, or make anything new to wear. All you get is what you have now. Is it enough?

Summary

The Supreme Court appears likely to uphold a U.S. law requiring TikTok's China-based owner, ByteDance, to divest ownership, potentially banning the app.

While TikTok and users argue the law violates First Amendment rights, justices leaned toward national security concerns about China's access to American user data.

Chief Justice Roberts noted Congress's findings on ByteDance’s ties to Chinese intelligence.

TikTok argued the law is unprecedented and impacts free speech, but Solicitor General Prelogar downplayed claims of operational shutdown.

A decision is imminent, and political complexities remain, including potential divestiture negotiations.

Summary

A U.S. appeals court ruled that the Justice Department can release Special Counsel Jack Smith’s report on Donald Trump’s attempts to overturn the 2020 election.

While a Judge Aileen Cannon's temporary block remains in effect for three more days, the decision paves the way for the report’s release as early as next week.

The report will focus on the 2020 election probe, as the classified documents portion remains restricted to Congress due to ongoing legal cases.

Trump denies wrongdoing, calling the investigations politically motivated.

Summary

Wang Jingyu, a Chinese dissident once widely covered as a victim of Communist Party harassment, is now accused of fabricating bomb threats and deceiving reporters and activists.

Dutch journalist Marije Vlaskamp and others initially suspected Chinese state involvement when bomb threats were made in their names.

However, NPR investigations revealed Wang’s use of forged documents and possible involvement in financial cons.

Major outlets, including de Volkskrant and Radio Free Asia, have retracted or amended stories featuring Wang, with reporters citing damage to their credibility after being misled by him.

I would like to know if there's any (automatic) ways of translating the instances which are not my native language (English). I think many of them would be well worth participating in, or at least being able to lightly skim over.

I know many get annoyed by them, and end up filtering/blocking. I don't find myself annoyed by them or anything like that, I just feel like I'm missing out a bit. I think if there was an easier and more inclusive way to join in with these communities it would be a great benefit to the fediverse.

I tried setting up the all in one container on a computer I have at home and it was a bit of a mess to get set up. Back in the day I used an ansible script to set up nextcloud and that seemed much better. Any advice or pointers?

Keyboards with custom firmware supports keycodes like XF86Copy and XF86Paste. These are great for having truly global copy/paste shortcuts that also work in apps like terminals where "Control-V" and "Control-C" aren't supported by default.

I advocated that these keycodes be supported in a web browser, Qutebrowser. The author of that project, Florian Bruhin liked the idea and submitted a patch upstream to the QT framework, which is used by many apps associated with the KDE Linux desktop. And about 5 years later, apps will be packaged with QT 6.10 that include the fix.

Here’s the change description.

This adds support for the Help, Open, Close, Save, New, Cut, Copy, Paste, Undo, Redo, Back, Forward, Refresh, ZoomIn, ZoomOut, Find, Settings, Exit, and Cancel keys to the default keyboard shortcuts.
