Product known as Adam implanted in sperm ducts could offer a reversible alternative to condoms and vasectomies

An implantable, non-hormonal male contraceptive has been shown in trials to last for at least two years.

The contraceptive, known as Adam, is a water-soluble hydrogel that is implanted in the sperm ducts, preventing sperm from mixing with semen.

The company behind the product, Contraline, says the approach offers a reversible alternative to condoms and vasectomies, with the hydrogel designed to break down in the body after a set period of time, restoring fertility.

Welcome to the World of Magic!

Theory of the Day:

Hello u/PublicMeaning341, now that you're in a (partially) Tar-hosted rewatch that's actually doing Theories of the Day and you are making theories you can be featured in this space:

Random theory: Kyubey accidentally created the witches, and he's desperately inching these girls closer to making contracts so that they can deal with the issue for him. If so, I wonder how exactly Homura got into this business in the first place?

Questions of the Day:

1 Who, if any character in particular, does Kyouko remind you of? Wrong answers only for rewatchers!

2 Thoughts on Sayaka going it alone?

3 For those of you that, like Vaad, drink the Devil's water, what are your hangover tips and tricks?

4 So...anyone got a clue at what the cat pop up in Kyouko's game references?

5 So where did Kyouko get the idea that what she recommended wrt Kyousuke is an appropriate way to act towards a love interest, anyways?

6 Enough stalling, what does everyone think of the great second Madoka twist?

7 [Rewatchers]So, we saw Kyubey's method of disposing of (or at least storing, check the sound effect) used Grief Seeds this episode. But what's the best way of disposing of the small white fluffy fucker?

Archaeologists uncovered the carefully preserved remains of a noblewoman from the Caral civilization. They say it indicates women were valued members of the ancient society.

A team of archaeologists on Thursday said they had unearthed the 5,000-year-old remains of a noblewoman in Caral, Peru.

"What has been discovered corresponds to a woman who apparently had elevated status, an elite woman," archaeologist David Palomino told the AFP news agency.

Palomino said the woman's remains were carefully preserved in layers of fabric, with a mantle of macaw feathers. It contained her skin as well as part of her nails and hair.

Preliminary findings show that the woman was between 20-35 years old and was about 5 foot tall (around 1.5 meters).

The GCC developers are pleased to announce the release of GCC 15.1.

The C frontend now defaults to the GNU C23 dialect. Some code needs porting for this. Some remaining C23 features have been implemented, as well as some new C2Y features.

The C++ frontend now implements several further C++26 features, some missing C++23 bits, and defect report resolutions. The libstdc++ library now notably experimentally supports std and std.compat modules, more algorithms usable in constexpr functions, flat maps and sets, and std::format support for containers and other ranges.

GCC now implements the Clang [[clang::musttail]] and [[clang::flag_enum]] attributes and their GNU counterparts with the same meaning for the C family language frontends. Support for new counted_by and nonnull_if_nonzero attributes has been added too.

The Fortran frontend has experimental support for unsigned integers.

GCC 15.1 has new COBOL frontend, so far supported only on a few 64-bit targets.

OpenMP support now includes metadirectives, tile and unroll constructs, interop construct and dispatch construct.

The vectorizer can now vectorize loops with early exits when array or buffer sizes aren't statically known. At -O2 can now vectorize some cheaply vectorizable loops with unknown tripcount.

Some code that compiled successfully with older GCC versions might require source changes, see Porting to GCC 15 for details.

For details see GCC 15 Release Series Changes, New Features, and Fixes).

At a secret workshop in Ukraine’s north-east, where about 20 people assemble hundreds of FPV (first person view) drones, there is a new design. Under the frame of the familiar quadcopter is a cylinder, the size of a forearm. Coiled up inside is fibre optic cable, 10km (6 miles) or even 20km long, to create a wired kamikaze drone.

Capt Yuriy Fedorenko, the commander of a specialist drone unit, the Achilles regiment, says fibre optic drones were an experimental response to battlefield jamming and rapidly took off late last year. With no radio connection, they cannot be jammed, are difficult to detect and able to fly in ways conventional FPV drones cannot.

“If pilots are experienced, they can fly these drones very low and between the trees in a forest or tree line. If you are flying with a regular drone, the trees block the signal unless you have a re-transmitter close,” he observes. Where tree lined supply roads were thought safer, fibre optic drones have been able to get through.

Today's game is Assassin's Creed Shadows. Taking a break and going to Arkham City (And 100% the base story) was definitely worth it.i think i was starting to get burnt out a little. Ubisoft made a fun game, but it's way to big for it's own good.

I did a quest where i had to rescue kidnapped Envoys. Having been playing a bit of Arkham lately i instinctively found myself trying to block and stuff with it's control scheme. It took me a minute to get the hang of it again. The moment i loaded my save i entered a fight and was basically flopping around like a fish trying to remember how to dodge.

After rescuing the Envoy i had to recover a letter for peace talks. It took me up through the mountains and i got to look at all the pretty trees and see some lovely sights.

The letter ended up being taken to a castle which i had to break into to grab it. The NPC who gave me the objective told me to approach from the south but i had some issues getting up too the wall.

I luckily was able to scale the cliff faces with a bit of luck and scaled the outer wall. While i was in there i grabbed the synchronization point and took out a few of the samurai.

The letter ended up being guarded by these two guards. I stood there for a bit hoping there pattern would change but i guess they have no patrol route and just stand there 24/7. So instead what i did was stab one and make a break for the outer wall and hung off of it to hide. Once i was free i took the other guy out and grabbed the letter.

The Quest ended with me having to take the letter to this temple where the lady who needed it was waiting for me. While fast traveling to it the Season changed to winter, which gives me the opportunity too get some good photos and also grab a legendary Sumi-e i need.

The texts, which faculty members said appeared to have gone to nearly all Barnard staff members, appear to be part of an aggressive new tactic by the Trump administration to collect reports of alleged antisemitism at Barnard, a women’s college affiliated with Columbia University that has come under heavy criticism for pro-Palestinian demonstrations on its campus.

i get a little annoyed at posts that start with broad statements like "is linux actually ready for the average user?" but then it's just someone asking for help to fix a problem they have with their sources.list or whatever. it's not a massive problem, but it's misleading and it feels borderline inflammatory sometimes

please tell when you're asking for help

Hello!

More recently, when attempting to share some images to Element (chat client), I see the following:

I suspect this is file specific or mimetype, as it's consistent on a given image but doesn't seem to affect most images.

A source of an example image is https://lemmy.dbzer0.com/post/42991557 ...

In these cases, saving the same image then attaching it separately inside the chat client works normally.

Please let me know if I can help diagnose etc.

One of the latest additions to the GOG preservation program is Breath of Fire IV.

Never heard of it myself, but it looked interesting, so will probably try it out this weekend.

Archived version

Chairs of the foreign affairs committees of eight European parliaments on April 25 urged U.S. President Donald Trump to end "the policy of appeasement" towards Russia, and called for a "resolute stance" against Moscow, according to a document seen by the Kyiv Independent.

"We strongly warn against yielding to its blackmail and deception," the statement reads.

The statement is signed by chairs of the foreign affairs committees of the U.K., France, the Czech Republic, Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, and Ukraine.

"We urge an end to the policy of appeasement and call instead for a united, resolute stance against Russia’s terrorist regime."

"Negotiating with the war criminal Putin is evidently futile; his main objective is to undermine and humiliate our ally, the United States. We call upon all states to ensure that Vladimir Putin and all those complicit in his crimes are brought to justice."

"We must not repeat the mistakes of Munich in 1938."

"There can be no compromise and no external pressure on Ukraine regarding its sovereignty and territorial integrity."

[The latter point is noteworthy as the U.S. is reportedly proposing its de jure recognition of Russian control over Crimea, which Russia has occupied since 2014, as part of a potential peace deal.]

The signatories also urged Europe to confiscate Russia’s frozen assets and redirect them to support Ukraine.

Cat Island known for its large number of feline residents and small number of people.

Felines have been reported by news outlets to outnumber humans by ratios between 6:1 and 10:1, but as elderly inhabitants of the island have died, the ratio has greatly increased, to almost 36:1.

Cats were introduced to combat rodents on fishing boats but remained on the island and reproduced in large numbers

Nearly a year after Russian President Vladimir Putin called Afghanistan’s Taliban an “ally” in countering terrorism, Moscow lifted a two-decade-old ban on the group, aiming to bolster ties with Kabul to crush a joint enemy — the Islamic State.

The move was “no surprise,” given Putin has spoken of growing cooperation with the Taliban on terrorism, said John Herbst, senior director of the Atlantic Council’s Eurasia Center. Those comments were “specifically directed against ISIS,” which claimed responsibility for the bloody Crocus City Hall terrorist attack in March 2024, he said.

The decision will also “open the door for official recognition of the Taliban government,” which has remained a pariah since taking power in Afghanistan nearly four years ago, said Faizullah Jalal, an independent Afghan political analyst and human rights activist.

Normalizing relations could increase economic activity between the two countries. Russia’s Foreign Affairs Ministry said late last year it’s looking to hammer out projects in the energy and agriculture sectors with the Taliban, according to the Tass news agency, and by the end of last year Afghanistan had become the top buyer of Russian flour.
