Rogue websites capitalizing on the borderless nature of the Internet have met their match, as an Indian court has wielded a "dynamic+" injunction to defend the global streaming rights of British sports platform DAZN for the FIFA World Cup 2025 currently underway in the US. The court emphasized the urgency of the order, stating that without the injunction, DAZN would suffer "irreparable loss and injury" due to the rapid spread of illicit streams.

Rogue websites capitalizing on the borderless nature of the Internet have met their match, as an Indian court has wielded a "dynamic+" injunction to defend the global streaming rights of British sports platform DAZN for the FIFA World Cup 2025 currently underway in the US.

The court order, issued by the Delhi High Court on May 28, represents a significant multi-jurisdictional triumph over online piracy. It restrains identified rogue websites and any future infringing sites from "communicating, hosting, streaming and/or making available for viewing and downloading" DAZN's FIFA World Cup content without authorization on their websites or any other platforms.

The dynamic+ injunction also compels domain name registrars to "lock/suspend (on real time basis)" the infringing domain names and disclose complete details of the registrants and payment information.

In addition, the court has directed local Internet Service Providers to "block access (on real time basis)" to these various websites. The Department of Telecommunications and the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology were impleaded to ensure comprehensive enforcement.

Delhi High Court Judge Saurabh Banerjee said in his 10-page ruling that the case "appears to be a classic case of copyright infringement by masked players... who use the veil of today’s technology to conveniently conceal their true identities and unabashedly abuse and enrich themselves by using the protected works of parties like the plaintiff herein through URL redirection/ masking, etc. Such entities are sprouting and have to be stopped at the earliest given opportunity."

"The Delhi High Court has always played the role of a swift, vigilant but fair referee in the ever-evolving game against digital piracy," IP lawyer Aman Sinha told MLex.

Just like the Video Assistant Referee who catches an offside before a goal can be counted, the court judgment "ensures that piracy is flagged and removed before it can score" illicit gains, Sinha said.

"In the digital match against piracy, dynamic+ injunctions are the new offside trap, anticipating the move before the infringers strike," he added.

A second IP lawyer agreed and pointed out the global reach of Indian courts. "The judgment — demonstrating a robust approach to intellectual property enforcement across international digital borders — proves that the Internet's borderless nature doesn't equate to lawlessness," he said.

DAZN, incorporated in England and Wales, alongside its Indian operations arm, DAZN Software, holds exclusive global media rights for the FIFA World Cup 2025, which is being hosted in the US from June 14 to July 13. These rights — encompassing television, digital and ancillary rights — grant DAZN the sole authority to broadcast, re-broadcast, retransmit and stream the event worldwide.

DAZN filed a lawsuit against "BUFFSPORTS" and a number of unnamed defendants, detailing how rogue websites were illegally broadcasting its streams for the World Cup. The suit followed DAZN's investigations of these sites circumventing its exclusive streaming mechanisms, effectively "financially enrich[ing] themselves" by providing pirated content. DAZN sought a permanent injunction, damages and a clear directive for immediate action.

Emphasizing the urgency in his ruling, Judge Banerjee said that if a dynamic+ injunction is not granted, DAZN "will likely suffer irreparable loss and injury." He also highlighted that "any delay in blocking these 'rogue websites' would, in fact, result in irreparable loss and injury to the plaintiffs and cause violation of the intellectual property rights of the plaintiffs."

The "dynamic+" nature of the injunction allows DAZN to inform relevant Domain Name Registrars and ISPs of any new mirror, redirect or alphanumeric variations of the infringing websites that emerge, thereby ensuring that these are promptly blocked on a real-time basis. This proactive measure is a crucial tool against the ever-evolving tactics of online pirates.

The case is set for its next hearing on Oct. 8, 2025, as the legal battle to secure digital content in a borderless world continues.

Distressed Tibetan children as young as four sent to Chinese state-run boarding schools for indoctrination have been beaten for praying and wearing Buddhist blessing cords, forced to sleep on sheepskins and taught only in Mandarin, a new report has found.

Researchers and activists say the boarding schools have been used by authorities to suppress the local culture and language of people in China's Tibetan Autonomous Region (TAR) and Tibetan areas in nearby provinces.

Details of the violence and coercive indoctrination have emerged in a new report from the US-based Tibet Action Institute (TAI) titled When They Came To Take Our Children.

Two Tibetans interviewed told the TAI that children were reprimanded for practising their religion.

"Students are restricted from wearing any sungdue [Buddhist blessing cords] around their necks and wrists and chanting Tibetan prayers," the report quotes them saying.

"If the students are found chanting prayers and wearing any blessing cords, they are beaten by the teacher."

A former student, who has left Tibet, told the TAI if school authorities inspected dormitories and "found that we had not kept it clean, we were beaten as a punishment".

Along with the allegations of beatings, the report says Tibetan children are indoctrinated to praise the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) and taught only in Mandarin.

"It's an effort to move Tibetan children away from family and community … expanding its control over what they're learning and thinking," Freya Putt, the author of the report and TAI's Director of Strategy, says.

Ukrainian intelligence highlights that the project would deepen cooperation between Russia and Chinese businesses within occupied Ukrainian territory, potentially reinforcing Russia’s military and economic presence in the region.

Earlier, an investigation revealed that Russia has nearly tripled production of its Iskander ballistic and cruise missiles over the past year by importing advanced manufacturing equipment from China, Taiwan, and Belarus.

Despite Western sanctions, the Votkinsk Plant—the main missile production facility—acquired over 7,000 new machines, including Chinese-made CNC systems, enabling it to manufacture more than 700 missiles since 2024.

Customs records confirmed that much of the equipment reached Russia through intermediaries, with eight out of ten known contracts traced back to China.

In addition to machinery, China has also supplied critical raw materials such as titanium for missile components. Ukraine’s military intelligence estimates Russia now holds a stockpile of about 900 Iskander missiles, enough for at least two more years of strikes.

"As the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) works to deliver on Republican President Donald Trump's promise of mass deportations, federal agents, including those with ICE, have taken immigrants into custody while wearing masks and plain clothes—sparking alarm over abuse by anonymous agents and also copycat criminals.

Velázquez's bill would bar ICE agents from wearing facial coverings during immigration enforcement, unless medically necessary or required for safety. It would also require written justification for any mask use, agents to wear clothing displaying their name and affiliation with ICE, and DHS to report annually to Congress on any related complaints and disciplinary actions."

This is one of a series of images taken by the ESA/JAXA BepiColombo mission on 8 January 2025 as the spacecraft sped by for its sixth and final gravity assist manoeuvre at the planet. Flying over Mercury's north pole gave the spacecraft's monitoring camera 1 (M-CAM 1) a unique opportunity to peer down into the shadowy polar craters.

M-CAM 1 took this long-exposure photograph of Mercury's north pole at 07:07 CET, when the spacecraft was about 787 km from the planet’s surface. The spacecraft’s closest approach of 295 km took place on the planet's night side at 06:59 CET.

In this view, Mercury’s terminator, the boundary between day and night, divides the planet in two. Along the terminator, just to the left of the solar array, the sunlit rims of craters Prokofiev, Kandinsky, Tolkien and Gordimer can be seen, including some of their central peaks.

Because Mercury’s spin axis is almost exactly perpendicular to the planet's movement around the Sun, the rims of these craters cast permanent shadows on their floors. This makes these unlit craters some of the coldest places in the Solar System, despite Mercury being the closest planet to the Sun!

Excitingly, there is already evidence that these dark craters contain frozen water. Whether there is really water on Mercury is one of the key mysteries that BepiColombo will investigate once it's in orbit around the planet.

The left of the image shows the vast volcanic plains known as Borealis Planitia. These are Mercury’s largest expanse of ‘smooth plains' and were formed by the widespread eruption of runny lava 3.7 billion years ago.

This lava flooded existing craters, as is clearly visible in the lower left Henri and Lismer craters. The ‘wrinkles’ seen in the centre-left were formed over billions of years following the solidification of the lava, probably in response to global contraction as Mercury’s interior cooled down.

The volume of lava making up Borealis Planitia is similar in scale to mass extinction-level volcanic events recorded in Earth’s history, notably the mass extinction event at the end of the Permian period 252 million years ago.
