Paper Tiger?

He used 'Unserious' not that long ago

Trump is turning into a Maoist before our eyes

[–] Rom@hexbear.net 61 points 1 week ago

Fascists co-opting leftist language as per usual. I heard some dumbass say the left was doing stochastic terrorism by making fun of Kirk.

[–] segfault11@hexbear.net 50 points 1 week ago

the LOSER demoKKKrat party trump-anguish

"We can push him left!" but for absolute cranks... man, that'd make a good path in one of the more unhinged HOI4 mods.

I'm reminded of the overzealous brainwashed commie obsessively quoting Mao in that one terrible B-movie where the US builds a bridge as cover for CIA stuff and the commies find out...

Volunteers (1985) with John Candy as the American who gets brainwashed by the Maoists into a not so sleeper agent.

[–] alexei_1917@hexbear.net 5 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

Yep, that's the one... "We can sleep after the revolution!" Some sleeper agent...

I'm amazed the Americans had the self awareness to make that kind of film while the Cold War was still ongoing. I really am.

A Real Military Power like the U.S. would have been in and out in a week as evidenced by its speedy victories in countries like Afghanistan.

[–] anarchoilluminati@hexbear.net 71 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Down to the last Ukrainian it is then. Hopefully those Azov Nazis don't kill us all in a nuclear catastrophe.

[–] Evilsandwichman@hexbear.net 66 points 1 week ago (1 children)

You know what makes this whole thing awesomely comical? Ukraine has bled itself of their young male population, and this war one way or another will end, but Ukraine will need those now dead men for their work force, so what will they be forced to do? They'll be forced to accept immigrants and refugees, and those will most likely be immigrants and refugees from the global South (Africa and the Middle East), and certainly my heart goes out to those folks (immigrants and refugees) and I wish them success, but those rabid, frothing Nazis who wanted to purge Russians from their country will now go nuts when they realize they have no choice but to accept them, or watch their country collapse worse than it did when the Soviet Union ended.

My condolences to the immigrants and refugees who already have enough on their plates without having to fend off Nazis, but people like the Azov brigade and Bandera supporters can just stew.

[–] anarchoilluminati@hexbear.net 38 points 1 week ago (2 children)

Yeah, absolutely. I think it's even more comical and ironic that I always imagined Russians moving to those areas after the war, seeing the way this is going it seems like Russians will end up mostly repopulating the country by marrying Ukrainian women. That and Kazakhs, etc.

Eat shit, Azov.

[–] newacctidk@hexbear.net 34 points 1 week ago

The EU lovers are gonna be so pissed when Ukraine gains a huge Chechen population

[–] redchert@lemmygrad.ml 7 points 1 week ago

A lot of Ukrainians live as migrants & refugees inside russia, actually they are part of the "mass migration" of russian citizens into crimea for example, the west has been whining about. But returning to your point, In Mariupol they brought in Georgians, central asians and people from the russian caucasus republics as construction workers.

This tweet was not written by Trump, it has none of his writing or speaking style. It doesn't even attempt to imitate him.

[–] whiskers165@hexbear.net 19 points 1 week ago

Underrated comment

[–] Damarcusart@hexbear.net 15 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Exactly what I thought, this doesn't even read like it was written by one of his aides in an attempt to sound like him.

[–] Awoo@hexbear.net 13 points 1 week ago (1 children)

It reads like Keir Starmer wrote it. He has used the phrase paper tiger in reference to Ukraine in the past and Trump just visited and spoke with Starmer.

Here is a speech from 2024 where Starmer uses it:

Because the alternative would be to confirm the worst claims about this place - that international law is merely a paper tiger and that aggressors can do what they will.

Kid Starver got the password. The Anglo-American Union is real.

Was literally my first thought

[–] Zuzak@hexbear.net 48 points 1 week ago

The idea that Trump was strongly opposed to the war in Ukraine was always an exaggerated lib fantasy/scaremongering. Trump bragged about being the one to send them weapons before the war, while Obama only sent them, "pillows and blankets."

When he was insufficiently deferential to the notion that US foreign policy is driven by benevolence, libs lost their shit over it and leapt at the opportunity to attack him for not being patriotic enough and being a "foreign asset," rather than criticizing him from any kind of leftist position. Trump was happy to not disavow this fantasy, because it was a fucking stupid and self-defeating line of attack that helped him immensely by allowing him to distance himself from failed lib foreign policy. Without even having to really do or say anything he was easily able to triangulate to appeal to all sorts of alternative foreign policy perspectives, because the libs were so confident that their position was objectively correct and anyone who disagreed for any reason was a Bad Person so they massively overcommitted to their position.

Of course, this sort of the thing is par for the course. Even when American politicians say that they'll be anti-war, it's a lie. Because they can just do that with no consequence, and the military-industrial complex has no shortage of bribe money. What's been happening in recent years is that they don't even bother to lie anymore. Like Trump technically lied saying he would "end the conflict on day 1" but that was obviously ridiculous bravado that didn't even say what he'd do to end it.

This is just a reversion to the mean. He's an American politician, and like every other American politician, he's a servent of Khorne who will always seek to spread blood and death and collect skulls for the skull throne, because that's what they fucking do. We will never be given the option to vote for anything different.

[–] purpleworm@hexbear.net 41 points 1 week ago

I would strongly condemn such a thing, but I do think it is very plausible for Ukraine to keep fighting and produce the outcome of all of Ukraine reuniting in its original form, i.e. as part of Russia.

Russia, a real military power did win. They got ukraine to the negotiating table within days. NATO torpedoed the peace deal. Fuckin clown president

[–] smokeppb@hexbear.net 39 points 1 week ago (2 children)

Trump was only antagonistic towards Ukraine for personal reasons (hunter Biden). With that event out of the way ,and Putin showing Trump up by not accepting his peace deals, it's easy to see why Trump doesn't like Putin as much as he might have in the past.

[–] SorosFootSoldier@hexbear.net 38 points 1 week ago

Trump is catty enough that because Russia snubbed that and stopped him from getting the Nobel he'd turn on him lol

[–] Tabitha@hexbear.net 3 points 1 week ago

Russiagaters in absolute panic once they realize Trump was actually just a completely independently dumb asshole the whole time.

[–] BabyTurtles@hexbear.net 38 points 1 week ago

Shifting positions requires you to be able to hold positions.

[–] BeanisBrain@hexbear.net 33 points 1 week ago (1 children)

It is a general rule of thumb in warfare that to engage in an offensive that gains ground, you should outnumber your enemy by at least 3:1.

In practice, this means that the level of force needed to mount a viable attack is nearly 10 times as large as the level of force needed to mount a viable defense.

Ukraine has repeatedly demonstrated that it does not have a sufficient force to mount a viable defense.

[–] revolut1917@hexbear.net 20 points 1 week ago

It is a general rule of thumb in warfare that to engage in an offensive that gains ground, you should outnumber your enemy by at least 3:1.

not to suggest that Ukraine is in any position to pull off a large scale offensive at this point but this is not true at all

[–] Krono@lemmy.today 32 points 1 week ago

It's kinda funny how Trump narcissistically insists on doing things differently from Biden. He stumbles around from one fantasy solution to another, and ultimately lands on the same path as Biden.

The plan to "fight to the last Ukrainian" is not a stable long term solution, and it is not the moral path. But it is the path of least resistance for the state dept and military industrial complex, so it should come as no surprise that this is the path that the US ultimately lands on.

[–] sharkfucker420@hexbear.net 29 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (1 children)

Did Trump just fucking quote Mao???

On the more serious note though, does this mean the US couldn't sufficiently drive a wedge between Russia and China? It was my belief that this was their ultimate goal in friendlier relations with Russia. Perhaps its less deep than that but I'm curious to hear y'all's thoughts.

[–] alexei_1917@hexbear.net 19 points 1 week ago

Even a broken clock has to be right twice a day, I guess.

[–] john_brown@hexbear.net 28 points 1 week ago

aimlessly

well they do control a significant portion of ukraine, guess they just lucked out

[–] FnordPrefect@hexbear.net 27 points 1 week ago

Upon hearing that more weapons are crossing more borders, the CIA ghoul grins.

[–] Assian_Candor@hexbear.net 19 points 1 week ago

Showed him the unedited zappruder film lol

[–] Andrzej3K@hexbear.net 17 points 1 week ago (1 children)

He's doing what literally any other US president would do — drawing out the conflict as long as possible. It's hurting Europe, it's hurting Russia, and this is good for the US. (it's devastating for Ukraine too naturally, but nobody cares about that)

[–] redchert@lemmygrad.ml 7 points 1 week ago

Ukraine wont be a country anymore anyway, so why not run it to the ground to hurt russia & EU and make a quick buck?

[–] segfault11@hexbear.net 16 points 1 week ago

punished MAGA has a chance to do something funny

"...should have taken a week..." says the country that spent 15 years in Vietnam and 20 years in Afghanistan only to leave with its tail between its legs.

[–] godlessworm@hexbear.net 13 points 1 week ago

chat gpt written ass tweet

[–] Evilsandwichman@hexbear.net 13 points 1 week ago

a war that should have taken a ~~real military power~~ (oh wait, I forgot the capitalization) Real Military Power less than a week to win

Does he realize he's insulting Ukraine and saying it's a pushover country? I can't tell if he's intentionally throwing shade or if he's just not really that smart.

Also while this is a policy shift, I'd say it's likely he saw how much we can sell Europe American arms and decided allowing the war to progress would be profitable; also Russia may have said they're not sharing the rare earth minerals. If you recall, he made a deal with Mali to handle their (most likely American backed) terrorists in return for rare earth minerals.

[–] ConcreteHalloween@hexbear.net 9 points 1 week ago

This is more likely to lose him supporters than the Epstein stuff.

[–] ShimmeringKoi@hexbear.net 7 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

That's the sound of a man with the heart attack gun pressed against his back. Still, i guess good for us that the fascist position now looks everything like the liberal position (same-picture) and nothing like ours.

[–] Damarcusart@hexbear.net 6 points 1 week ago (1 children)

So is this factional infighting in the GOP, or a sign of a larger attitude shift, or a rogue agent within the party getting their hands on Trump's twitter and trying to steer things in the direction they want?

I would like to think the US isn't dumb enough to start a hot war with Russia and China at the same time, but who knows.

[–] Tabitha@hexbear.net 1 points 1 week ago

I, on the other hand, welcome the US to walk bravely into their self-destruction world tour.

[–] CancelledKirk@hexbear.net 4 points 1 week ago

was this written with chat gpt? lmao
