The Trump administration signaled last week it intends to approve a land transfer that will allow a foreign company to mine a sacred Indigenous site in Arizona, where local tribes and environmentalists have fought the project for decades and before federal courts rule on lawsuits over the project.

Western Apache have gathered at Oak Flat, or Chi’chil Biłdagoteel in Apache, since time immemorial for sacred ceremonies that cannot be held anywhere else, as tribal beliefs are inextricably tied to the land. The tribe believes the landscape located outside present-day Superior, Arizona, is a direct corridor to the Creator, where Gaan — called spirit dancers in English, and akin to angels — reside. The site allows the Western Apache to connect to their religion, history, culture, and environment, tribal members told Inside Climate News.

But beneath the ground at the site of Oak Flat lies one of the world’s largest untapped copper deposits. Resolution Copper, a subsidiary of two of the biggest mining companies in the world, Rio Tinto and BHP, has worked for decades to gain access to the location to utilize what’s called “block cave mining.”

Three lawsuits against the project are still working their way through the courts. Apache Stronghold v. United States, decided by a federal appeals court in favor of the mine, was appealed by plaintiffs more than a year ago to the Supreme Court, which has not yet decided whether to take it up. That case argues the destruction of Oak Flat violates the Apache’s religious freedom, and is a threat to other religions.

Basically title, ever since I finished my first Japanese game (Ys 1 for the pc98 for those curious), I've been looking into more games to play, I started a playthrough of Ys 2, also on the pc98, but I had to migrate from Retroarch and the new version of Neko Project 2 that I use to emulate pc98 games doesn't seem to play well with that particular game (basically music doesn't play).

I've been looking into other RPGs to play, specially nowdays that I'm kind of in a mood for those 2d first person dungeon crawlers (like Wizardry or the early Shin Megami Tensei games), I started a playthrough of SMT 4, but I'm starting to second guess it, because even though it has furigana for almost all the text, and lots of voice acting, this game is so dense with dialog that it makes it very exhaustive for a beginner like me to play.

I wanted a game that has dialog, but not a LOT of it, like not to the point of overwhelming a reader, specially at the intro, one with a healthy balance of gameplay and dialog, with frequent breaks from reading where you get to just chill and fight some monsters, if you get what I mean, basically baby steps in Japanese immersion to train myself into reading more "dense" games.

I've been considering some specially older RPGs, since Ys 1 and 2 are from the 80's, a couple of games I've been considering was the original Dragon Quest, specially on a newer version which I bet has kanji support, and the original Phantasy Star for 2 reasons, 1: It's a first person dungeon crawler, and 2: It might sound weird, but there's no kanji there, which usually is kind of a downside, but interestingly, the text in this game is entirelly written in katakana, like everything, which I felt at the very least, would help me memorize katakana, as I struggle a lot with it. (Also yes, I know there's a JP exclusive PS2 remake of Phantasy Star, but I don't like how that game looks to be honest... it feels weird, and they made the combat feel more like the later games, which is not inherently bad, but I kinda liked the simplicity of the original)

Any ideas? Am I going about this the wrong way? any tips?

App broken? (discuss.tchncs.de)

Sorry that I cannot provide a more specific title, but the whole app seems to be broken. On the post tab I only get the error message "failed to load posts", on the profile tab it's "failed to load user profile", messages and notifications do not get loaded, no communities get listed, etc. Tried it with two accounts on different instances, neither account is banned, I can access everything in a browser iron other apps.

I installed the latest update after this error occurred, no changes.

Edit: app works again after de- and reinstallation, everything's back to normal.

Robber baron types already trended towards this with worker scrip but the productive forces weren't developed enough to do it at scale enough to manage an entire economy like this. Amazon, Wal-Mart, Frito-Lays, Black Rock, could totally vertically integrate to the point where they sustain themselves internally and don't need an imperial core-periphery distinction.

Neolibs will let it happen because they ideologically disagree that capitalism can't be capitalism without markets and thus when it outcompetes the current market systems much like how the non-market systems of the USSR outcompeted capitalism during it's time they'll rather argue that it's simply not doing better (imagine the anti-China articles but they're from the UK talking about how fascist US capital can't be doing well). Also it'll happen in predominantly white systems so they won't be able to out-right demonize it happening.

Other third-party Bluesky apps, which make up the larger open social web known as the ATmosphere, don’t have to follow these same rules. At least, not for now.
