For those who came in late, this is not perhaps the killing blow ... I don't think they have another quarter-million news aficionados still subscribed after the endorsement fiasco, but this is idiotic for the brand.

"Finding it elsewhere online?" Come on, Bezos. You're only rich because people can't find things elsewhere online.

Nice to see a platform like GOG becoming so proactive these last 12 or so months (or, more so than they were previously)

With so many new initiatives (or in the case of the Dreamlist!) - re-imagined ones!

Dino Crisis and the sequel weren't my kind of games, even being made specifically for modern hardware. I'm too young to have the nostalgia or patience for the so called 'tank controls' of the old days. But I still bought them to support the initiative. I'm just one of those poor fools waiting and hoping for a modern sleek remake, like the Resident Evil games were blessed with!

STILL, so nice to see this billboard in a prominent space! Nice work, GOG.

Swedish government wants a back door in signal for police and 'Säpo' (Swedish federation that checks for spies)

Let's say that this becomes a law and Signal decides to withdraw from Sweden as they clearly state that they won't implement a back door; would a citizen within the country still be able to use and access Signals services? Assuming that google play services probably would remove the Signal app within Sweden (which I also don't use)

I just want the government to go f*ck themselves, y'know?

Apple says it is working to fix its speech-to-text tool after some social media users found that when they spoke the word "racist" into their iPhones it typed it out as "Trump."

The tech giant has suggested the issue with its Dictation service has been caused by a problem it has distinguishing between words with an "r" in them.

"We are aware of an issue with the speech recognition model that powers Dictation and we are rolling out a fix today," an Apple spokesperson said.

However an expert in speech recognition told the BBC this explanation was "just not plausible."

Peter Bell, professor of speech technology at the University of Edinburgh, said it was more likely that someone had altered the underlying software that the tool used.

A former Apple employee who worked on its AI assistant Siri told the New York Times: "This smells like a serious prank."

So I wonder why to this date on a high level of things like the corporate world and even in the media you still mainly see white/caucasian people?

Like when I think of CEO's, boy bands or movie stars I rarely see for example black people. I feel like they're under represented and it needs to change.

I once asked a similar question on a different Lemmy account and they were telling me I'm racist for being against racism. How does this make sense? I'm pretty sure white supremacy is a real thing and I think it's important to speak up about it. Why do you think this is still an issue? Do people not care about it?

Remember when the internet felt like a giant treasure hunt instead of just… cycling through the same five apps? Yeah, me too. That’s why I started COI (Corners of Internet)—a place where I dig up weird, fun, and happy corners of the web so you don’t have to.

No algorithms. No doomscrolling. Just pure internet exploration.

If it’s cool, underrated, or a little unhinged, it goes on COI.

Check it out: www.cornersofinternet.com

Also, if you’ve got a favorite weird site, drop it below! I’m always looking for new rabbit holes to fall into.

I wanted to know if there was a neat playbook or tutorial set that one can refer to if they're trying to set up their own static website from home?

So far I have done the following:

  1. Got a raspberypi (Raspberry Pi 2 Zero W) and raspberrypi OS installed with fail2ban ready.
  2. Installed nginx (I have not configured anything there).
  3. Written the HTML and CSS files for the website.
  4. Purchased a domain.

How do I complete the remain pieces of this puzzle?

My purpose: I want an online profile that I can share with my colleagues and clients instead of relying on LinkedIn as a way to connect. Eventually, I will stop posting on LinkedIn and make this my main method of relaying information and disseminating my works and services.
