Welcome to jellies!

Jellies #1,2 and 3 were pieces I made for a local art show. They are constructed of reclaim hand pounded copper and local beach wood and stones.

All sold

Commissioned custom jellies available on order.

I should also add I am happy to arrange barter for goods or services as opposed to cash for art pieces.

I finally got a Lemmy sign in for just art stuff. You can contact me here for any inquiries about purchases or custom work. I've been transitioning from American social media and making new fedi accounts and spreading them about. I enjoy sharing my work here and Is m just looking for a new way to reach people with my artistic endeavors.

Several elections on Tuesday will be a crucial test of the popularity of the chaotic and extremist first two months of Donald Trump’s second term and the clout of his close ally, Elon Musk, the world’s richest man who has been tasked with radically reforming the US federal government.

They could also offer a glimmer of hope to Democrats – fresh off a surprise upset win in a local race in Pennsylvania last week – that their divided political party could be seeing a resurgence in its fortunes. Or, if they fail to land further blows on Republicans, it will be yet another sign that the party is destined for a long period in the wilderness amid historic lows of its popularity in recent polls.

Many eyes are focused on two previously Republican-held congressional seats in Florida, where its sixth and first congressional districts are vacant and up for grabs. Mike Waltz left to take up a cabinet job for Trump and Matt Gaetz resigned to pursue a failed bid to become attorney general.

I just figured it might be a nice change of pace to see what everyone's Steam Deck's screen is showing!

For me, I get way too much fun out of using Decky Loader to install CSS Loader and tinker with the UI of my Steam Deck. If you've not heard of this, and want some quick links on how to, I'll share them at the end of this post!

While I have nothing against the stock look of things, it's just so fun for me to be able to change every little facet so that I know it looks like it's mine.

I figured sharing a photo of either your Steam Deck's home screen with it all being customized, or just showing it off as it is (stock) so we can see the games you're playing!

No better way to show off the last few games you've been playing that by seeing them in person :)

What I've been playing:

Most recently I've started another play-through of Half-Life 2. I only just played the game for the very first time last year, and I'm shocked at how good the game is. Rarely does something hold up when you hear the hype for so long...but not only does it hold up for its age (I know, decades of patches), but it outshines so many modern games. I love this game, and it's fun playing again so I can take my time!

I also set up Jak and Jak 2 with https://opengoal.dev/ - It was a breeze to set up, and I only just opened Jak 2, to confirm it does in fact work (it does!), so it's waiting for me next!

RetroDECK is my obsession (the link to their site is here!) - it is my preferred way to emulate on the Steam Deck, and in that I've been playing MGS2 (again) with a HD texture replacement pack to make it look as good as it possible can. Does it look better than their recent release on Steam? Yes. By far.

Finally BioShock 2: Remastered on GOG. Checking my stats on the GOG site, ive put in 10 hours playing it now. It's perfection. Art Deco + underwater, its like it was made for me (tho my fav of the three is still Infinite)

Some bonus pictures:

And finally my desktop, on desktop mode:

How to customize?

You need to install Decky Loader. It's a tiny tiny download, and it opens up the ability to add plugins made by the community

The website for it is here, so you can see a proper overview of the system

This is a video on YouTube showing off different plugins and what it can do, alongside a guide for how to install it

I recommend:

  • SteamGridDB (lets you customize the artwork chosen for your game, which you can see in my photos

  • CSS Loader - this lets you change the layout and UI and how it feels, even down the the fonts and colors and so on.

Anyway

Share a picture of your Steam Deck, I'd love to see what you've been playing!!!

To show support for Canada amid a trade war with the U.S., John Mackay says he tries to only buy Canadian products during grocery runs.

That's why the 81-year-old from Tillsonburg, Ont., said he's complained to Metro multiple times after seeing orange juice with pulp by Irrésistible — a Metro-owned private-label brand — with a red maple leaf next to the price tag on the shelf.

"Since when are we growing oranges in Canada?" said Mackay, whose home is roughly 115 kilometres west of Hamilton. "I was pissed off."

By 2012 — one year after joining Facebook — Wynn-Williams had ample evidence of the platform's role in enabling violence and harm upon its users, and state-sanctioned digital repression, yet her memoir neither mentions these events nor the repeated warnings to her team from civil society groups in Asia before the situation escalated... In recounting events, the author glosses over her own indifference to repeated warnings from policymakers, civil society, and internal teams outside the U.S. that ultimately led to serious harm to communities.

She briefly mentions how Facebook's local staff was held at gunpoint to give access to data or remove content in various countries — something that had been happening since as early as 2012. Yet, she failed to grasp the gravity of these risks until the possibility of her facing jail time arises in South Korea — or even more starkly in March 2016, when Facebook's vice president for Latin America, Diego Dzodan, was arrested in Brazil. Her delayed reckoning underscores how Facebook's leadership remains largely detached from real-world consequences of their decisions until they become impossible to ignore.

Perhaps because everyone wants to be a hero of their own story, Wynn-Williams frames her opposition to leadership decisions as isolated; in reality, powerful resistance had long existed within what Wynn-Williams describes as Facebook's "lower-level employees."

Summary

Dr. Peter Marks, the FDA’s top vaccine regulator, resigned after reportedly being forced out amid clashes with Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr.

In his resignation letter, Marks wrote that Kennedy wanted "subservient confirmation of his misinformation and lies."

He criticized Kennedy’s stance on vaccines, accusing him of undermining public confidence.

Marks, who led the FDA’s Center for Biologics Evaluation and Research since 2016, played a key role in authorizing Covid vaccines and spearheading Operation Warp Speed. Kennedy, an anti-vaccine activist, has questioned the safety of Covid and MMR vaccines despite scientific consensus.

A surge in Eurozone government borrowing costs as a result of Germany’s planned defence spending spree will intensify debt pressures on other countries in the bloc and could make it harder for them to mount borrowing campaigns of their own, investors have warned.

The shift by the region’s biggest economy away from its historic reluctance to borrow — which in the past has led to a scarcity of Bunds and sub-zero yields — to a “whatever it takes” plan for military and infrastructure spending is being felt across the bloc’s financial markets.

Ten-year Bund yields have risen to close to 3 per cent this month for the first time since a global bond sell-off in 2023. That has pushed other government borrowing costs higher, thanks to German debt’s role as the de facto benchmark for the bloc’s market, prompting warnings about the impact on the finances of more heavily-indebted economies.

“The rise in yields could eclipse fiscal space for an increase in defence spending outside of Germany,” in particular in France and Italy, said Sören Radde, head of European economic research at hedge fund Point72.

French 10-year yields have risen above 3.6 per cent this month, their highest in more than a decade and topping levels reached at the height of its political crisis last year. Italy’s yields touched 4 per cent for the first time since last July.
