I'm pretty sure the article is at least mildly ironic. I don't think he literally believes that "nobody cares if music is real any more." Towards the end he talks about how AI music is not really art, and it lulls you into oblivion. The writer's a legit scholar with an academic interest in video games, btw: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ian_Bogost

Those poor, poor academic publishers... they're actually going to have to do some reviewing? And maybe even some EDITING? ...nah, they'll probably just run them through OpenAI...

Game on the couch til I pass out. Wake up halfway thru the night, throw self on the mattress, shedding clothes til I'm comfortable. (varies by time of year)

If this happened at a licensed event, does that mean this is canon?

Tournament's over! And I don't plan to post til the next one, tho you're welcome to post stuff if you want obv. You can search youtube and the web for fun sumo stuff til then, but I thought I'd recc some sumo movies and shows:

Another fun thing to do is check out local amateur groups. If you're in the US, you can look here:

Finally, it's a lot of fun to add some sumo-related exercises to your workout. Here are a couple of the basics that I like:

Hakkeyoi!!!

If you're not familiar with sumo this is a great video to watch, it’s a summary of all the top action of the day and the commentary is in English.

If there are words you don't recognize...

  • some words refer to the sumo wrestler's ranking: yokozuna, ozeki, sekiwake, komosubi and finally maegashira (which also have numbers.) These rankings change after every tournament. See the current rankings.
  • the rankings are different from the tournament's leaderboard.
  • other words like yorikiri and oshitaoshi refer to the techniques used. There's a lot of pushing, tripping, and throwing!
  • finally there are various other terms bc this endeavor has been around for several centuries.
