Literally tariffing China to prop up to ev market in the country threatening to annex you.
This is the clearest, most concise manner to say this. This comrade should be a reporter. 🫡
any country that tariffs EVs, solar/renewable tech, or any of the tools for transitioning away from fossil fuels should be embargoed and sanctioned so hard they get diarrhea in front of everybody at church.
All countries tariff their imports and exports at 100%, which is then used to gift them mountains of solar panels.
A 100% tariff on solar panels which is used to double the purchase size of the solar panels, delivered to the initial purchaser.

Canada is a very real and sovereign country.
C'mon, Canada. Even when you're mad at the US, you still don't know how to operate on the world stage without fully mimicking their foreign policy, eh?
hurt itself in its confusion!
woah,, nice emoji use
Remember when Biden put insane tariffs on Chinese EVs and libs didn't care?
Libs actually rejoiced.
lol, Canada’s economy is getting wrecked by US tariffs but Canada is such a subservient cur to the empire they’ll further harm themselves to protect US automakers.
Stupid country did this to themselves in which they never needed to in the first place, only did it because it neighbours .
Honestly I don't get why all the Canadian Patriots were getting all antsy about American annexation, it's not like Canada acts like a sovereign nation anyway
From what I get from talking to some friends in Canada, like 80% of Canadian national identity is based on the fact that they're not the US. "At least we're not as bad as the Americans" is a thought-terminating cliche that sees a lot of use, to hear them tell it.
We focus on the differences between us and Americans because otherwise we would just be low tier Americans lol
No, I do not understand how people reconcile that with the fact that we act like Americans in every meaningful way.
DNC country
hey some of you speak french
100% accurate, any criticism of Canada can be shut down by saying "but hey just look south, at least that's not happening here!"
The EV tariffs were meant to appease the US before Canadians decided we don't like them anymore. It would be a remarkable turnaround for Canadians to actually embrace the trade relationship with China because we are full of the same anti-china brainworms.
Given that, I think this is good news. It seems like China intends on negotiating with Canada from a position of strength. Meaning Chinaintends to negotiate with Canada at all. I wouldn't say we deserve that, but I hope it happens. Dropping the EV tariff would obviously be a good thing too.
Edit to add: I don't have a lot of hope but theoretically it is possible that anti-American sentiment will grow into actual cooperation with China. Most Canadians are not cognizant of our role on the imperial periphery and our delusions of grandeur could lead to more cooperation with China as long as China pretends we are a sovereign nation enough to feed our egos lol
That's really the best hope we have. If there's enough anti-US sentiment, it just might overpower our sinophobia.
Canada is not an independent state, it is a semi-autonomous province of the American Empire.
All Canada know is cash crop, lick boot and lie
for the love of god why are you tariffing china, canada
Because Canada thinks they are a major player on the global stage, they need to be taken down a peg and show some humility.
Carney's considered that the main threat of the world in near future is China during the debate
Whenever I see tariffs on things like this, it strikes me as much more pragmatic and serious than tariffs on things like EVs and microchips, because while the latter is very high end and politicized, things like the former -oils, raw materials, grains- seem like they would have bigger impacts. Idk im not an expert, but it seems like a more no-nonsense, less theatrical way to do tariffs. The mismatch in levels of seriousness makes me think of this:
The fuck is a canola?
CANadian Oil Low Acid
CANOLA.
It's an extra processed and flavourless version of {菜籽油|caìzǐyoú} or Indian brassica/mustard oils. The Chinese variety comes from a plant in the mustard family (brassica) that's a cross between cabbage and turnip. The seeds of this plant (unfortunately named a word that's censored) is high in fat and produces a flavourful oil with a high smoke point and is the backbone of Sichuan cuisine.
They're naturally relatively high in acidity which North American scientists deemed to be "unhealthy" in the 20th century (read: trade protectionism for American and Canadian crops).
A study done on rats in the 60's where they were fed 70% of their daily caloric intake in high acid oils produced a high degree of heart disease and so high euricic acid oils were banned in the US and most western countries. Canadians came up with canola, a processed version of the brassica oil with an oil with acidity acceptable under the new regulations and became the staple vegetable oil in the west. Later studies overturning these findings unfortunately never overturned these regulations.
Rapseed but there's an e after the p that would make the automod unhappy
Which comes from the mustard greens that make mustard gas, iirc?
Mustard gas doesn't come from mustard plants
You're right, according to Wikipedia,
Sulfur mustards are viscous liquids at room temperature and have an odor resembling mustard plants, garlic, or horseradish, hence the name.[3][4] When pure, they are colorless, but when used in impure forms, such as in warfare, they are usually yellow-brown. Mustard gases form blisters on exposed skin and in the lungs, often resulting in prolonged illness ending in death.[4]
Thanks for prompting a refresher.
It's a seed oil. It has a different name in other places in the world that would get redacted here if I typed it
There are some differences between canola and the type of oil you're referring to (but they're pretty much the same)
Same plant? I honestly don't know a ton about foodstuff
Canola is a genetic variant based on that type. All canola oil is that oil but not all that oil is canola. It was specifically bred to have particular properties, like being low in erucic acid.
Interesting!
To elaborate on the other responses, it's an acronym invented to rebrand from that other name. CANada Oil Low Acid.
KKKuckada
But Canada already has Vietnamese Vinfast EVs Which is basically a low tier EV made with Chinese parts
