The EV tariffs were meant to appease the US before Canadians decided we don't like them anymore. It would be a remarkable turnaround for Canadians to actually embrace the trade relationship with China because we are full of the same anti-china brainworms.
Given that, I think this is good news. It seems like China intends on negotiating with Canada from a position of strength. Meaning Chinaintends to negotiate with Canada at all. I wouldn't say we deserve that, but I hope it happens. Dropping the EV tariff would obviously be a good thing too.
Edit to add: I don't have a lot of hope but theoretically it is possible that anti-American sentiment will grow into actual cooperation with China. Most Canadians are not cognizant of our role on the imperial periphery and our delusions of grandeur could lead to more cooperation with China as long as China pretends we are a sovereign nation enough to feed our egos lol
That's really the best hope we have. If there's enough anti-US sentiment, it just might overpower our sinophobia.
