Abstract

We investigate the probabilities of triggering climate tipping points under five Shared Socioeconomic Pathways (SSPs) and how they are altered by including the additional carbon emissions that could arise from tipping points within the Earth's carbon cycle. The crossing of a climate tipping point at a threshold level of global mean surface temperature (threshold temperature) would commit the affected subsystem of the Earth to abrupt and largely irreversible changes with negative impacts on human well-being. However, it remains unclear which tipping points would be triggered under the different SSPs due to uncertainties in the climate sensitivity to anthropogenic greenhouse gas emissions, the threshold temperatures and timescales of climate tipping points, and the response of tipping points within the Earth's carbon cycle to global warming. We include those uncertainties in our analysis to derive probabilities of triggering for 16 previously identified climate tipping points within the Earth system. To conduct our analysis, we use the reduced complexity climate model FaIR (Finite amplitude Impulse Response) which is coupled to a conceptual model of the tipping processes within the Amazon rainforest and permafrost, which are the two major tipping points within the Earth's carbon cycle. Uncertainties are propagated by employing a Monte Carlo approach for the construction of large model ensembles. We find that carbon tipping points increase the risk for high-temperature pathways, but on average their warming effect remains small, with its median staying 1 order of magnitude lower than the median anthropogenic warming for all SSPs. Therefore, they have low potential to increase the probability of triggering other tipping points. The maximum triggering probability increase from carbon tipping points among all SSPs occurs under SSP2-4.5, with a 3 percentage point increase averaged over all tipping points. The warming trajectory expected from current policies compares best to SSP2-4.5, which we find to be unsafe with regard to triggering climate tipping points. Our most conservative estimate of triggering probabilities averaged over all tipping points is 62 % under SSP2-4.5, and nine tipping points have a more than 50 % probability of getting triggered. Under SSP1-2.6 and SSP1-1.9, the risk of triggering climate tipping points is reduced significantly compared to SSP2-4.5; however, it also remains less constrained since the behaviour of climate tipping points in the case of a temperature overshoot is still highly uncertain. How to cite.

I'm wondering if anyone made a fediverse like (aka multiple instances talking to eachother) for discord?

I know matrix exists, but it's only rooms instead of servers with channels, etc...

The image on the right is how the settings app look on macOS 12. On macOS 13 (2022) it was changed to look more to the one on the left, with all the sections selectable in a sidebar and a smaller window. Many users have complained about it, saying that it sacrificed function for form and is part of making macOS more like iOS by mindlessly copying phone UIs onto computers which it isn't meant for. I think its alright, not terrible. And it's the norm with settings apps looking like that in Windows, KDE, Gnome, and some other DEs.

Premieres October 2025. Check out the ANN article for additional information. Synopsis from AniList:

Kaboku Kotani is starting high school, and he plans to do what he’s always done: go along with his friends, keep quiet, and not draw too much attention to himself. After all, it’s hard enough to get by with a stutter like his— why make things worse by standing out from the crowd? But then he sees another first-year, Hikari Wanda, dancing like no one is watching—or like she doesn’t care who sees her. It makes Kaboku wonder: Could he reach that same freedom? To find his way to Wanda, he does something he never thought he could: He joins the dance club. After all, every routine begins with a single step, right? Join Kaboku and Wanda as they freestyle their way to life and love!

I've set up an old laptop with Linux mint some months ago, and while the laptop's speed is fine when there are no disk write, even a very small write can cause other applications to hang until it is done, and i can also tell because i have an IO led so whenever it is on i know that i can't really interact with stuff whenever it's on.

SMART status doesn't seem to report anything, (tested some weeks ago, but issue was always present), but i'm willing to test again and show screenshots.

I'll show some maybe relevant information, note that my Linux fs is mounted on sda7.

some forums online suggested looking at /etc/fstab:

/etc/fstab

This was bound to happen. No centralized VC-backed company could stay uncensored like that forever.

CivitAI already gathered all the growth it could, now it has to focus on making a profit and therefore pleasing credit card companies and advertisers.

The Conservatives are using the final week of the election campaign to run advertisements where older men are telling other older men to vote for the party — a closing argument that would have been unthinkable only months ago, political advertising experts say.

In new television ads that are airing regularly during the heavily watched NHL playoffs, the Conservatives are playing one spot in which two seniors are golfing and discussing how tough life is for their children, and another where former prime minister Stephen Harper endorses Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre.

Neither commercial shows images of Poilievre.

"We're living in an upside-down world this campaign. Voters that were bedrock Conservative voters in the Harper era now need to be won over. And these are the boomers, 50-plus males," said Dennis Matthews, president of Creative Currency and a former advertising adviser to Harper.
