I always interpreted this as a criticism of American culture. I never thought of this as a defense strategy -- with no living or real heroes, you can't kill or defile their lives

That’s the biggest irony with liberals glazing Zelensky, prior to the war he was widely and correctly regarded as a Trump-like figure. An entertainer who rode into office in a wave of anti-establishment sentiment and then proceed to undrmine democratic governance.
