I know there are risks that come with working for the cartel's R&D department but that sounds like it was a fun project.
Futurology
It would solve a lot of problems if we'd just legalize drugs and let people do what they want with their own bodies.
Tough one. I understand your thought and part of me agrees. The other part understands the dangers and risks. Also understand that many addicts come from a bad mindset or are too young to make an educated decision. Overall, I think some drugs should not be tolerated. I also understand that they will exist regardless. Idk.
legalized drugs make it easier to restrict in most cases.
Drug addiction are a symptoms of a failing society.
Overall, I think some drugs should not be tolerated. I also understand that they will exist regardless. Idk.
You can not tolerate drugs without choosing to lock everyone involved in a box for decades. No medical or psychological studies have shown that prison is a safe or effective treatment for addiction.
There are better ways than simply incarcerating millions of people.
I'm not sure where he said that was the other option he supported. Maybe I need my eyes checked.
In language we often use what is called context to understand the meaning of sentences.
The second person is disagreeing with the proposition "if we’d just legalize drugs" and so their comment of "I think some drugs should not be tolerated." is, in context, taken to mean that some drugs should remain illegal.
When things are illegal, often the criminal penalties involve incarceration.
I hope this was clear enough for your still developing eyeballs.
I was trying to be kind/funny in case you didn't mean to imply that they were supporting that sort of thing, because they didn't say that. Now you're just being condescending.
Let me be direct: Nowhere did that user say that they supported the current criminal penalties around drug usage. Maybe you could wait for them to say so before you assume they support something that most people find objectionable.
You know, treating someone's statement as being made in good faith until it's proven otherwise?
You should let them clarify their position if they felt that I mischaracterized it. Trying to communicate on social media is time consuming enough, don't add to the headache by trying to make other people's points for them.
It is possible that they meant something else, sure. But, unless that is your alt account you cannot possibly know. Just because you can imagine other possible readings of their statement that don't involve incarceration doesn't mean that I interpreted their statement incorrectly.
I'm not trying to make their point for them. I'm trying to softly suggest a course of action that will make conversing online easier for you and the people you interact with.
I'm a little sensitive to this sort of stuff right now because one of the better people on lemmy, Admiral Patrick, is shutting down their lemmy instance dubvee in part due to patterns of people assuming bad faith in online discourse.
Just save yourself the effort by not assuming they meant something bad in the first place. Most people with the kind of terrible opinions you assumed will out themselves fast enough, without assuming bad faith. There's very little to gain by trying to "hunt them down". They'll tell you who they are themselves very directly.
It is not the other person's responsibility to respond to arguments against and counter points to things they never said, just because you thought they might mean it. This isn't a press conference. You aren't some reporter trying to catch somebody out in a contreversial statement to help pump reader numbers. This is a relatively casual conversation online. Be casual. Be kind.
I hope I've made my thoughts clear on this. Either way, I'm done. Hope you have a good day
Admiral Patrick, is shutting down their lemmy instance dubvee in part due to patterns of people assuming bad faith in online discourse.
Looks like he left early too. It was said that he was leaving July 31st, but the dubvee instance is no longer loading as of right now. It totally sucks that Lemmy ran him off. We need more like him on here!
Having said that, I feel the same way you do in your comments. People are being too mean on here lately.
The drug "problems" I have are all because of the police. So there would be less dangers and risks to a lot of people.
What part of that makes it the problem of the police, and not say your doctor?
My doctor isn't going to be able to restrain someone raging on bath salts. Or a belligerant drunk on the public bus.
Yours must be pretty swole I guess.
yeah outlaw alcohol
And then you'll have to create another "war on x" to justify increasing military/police spending for the MIC.
I would disagree with the sentiment, but agree with the plan though not with its realization!
It is in our best interest to have a healthy society, hard drugs and even serious addiction to less powerful drugs is an issue not only from our responsibility as humans, but financially (guess the second one only applies to non-americans)! Allowing hard drugs but opening such clinics that make their use safe and possibly provide the nec resources is so far statistically the most effective method against such addictions!
You would get to do whatever you want (in the parameters you drew up) and I would get to live in a better country! I think we would both win with my method
Seems we need RICO charges for Elon.
Brah! Independence!
Time for tariffs against american products for participating in drug traffic operations.
