I'm honestly flabbergasted by this pic, this is probably how trumpers felt with that photo of him after being nicked in the ear.

I confess that I was one of those people who eyerolled at the name and attention Greta Thunberg was getting when she was younger.

And honestly I think a lot of what I thought holds up, that the fact that powerful organizations were inviting her to berate them meant she wasn't threatening at all, that her meeting obama meant she didn't understand the underlying structure that causes climate change, that a literal child being the oracle of end times was a trope and didn't bode well for the movement if its leader was 13 yo and that if she had any brains and was serious then she would HAVE to become some type of socialist.

But all that goes to say that she could've easily sold out and become a despicable NGO person, instead she's out there showing so much more courage than everyone in the humanitarian media ecosystem, all the while probably fully understanding what it means that the media don't report on her every movement anymore, how that happened idk, maybe she read theory, maybe she had cool friends who taught her about stuff, anyway she's order-of-lenin

A dear friend of mine was complaining about Greta back when she was still a kid, saying what right does a kid have to complain to nations? I huffed. I pointed out she has more right than any of us- the most of her years are ahead of her. She can't control what world she inherits, only the people she's screaming at can do anything.

Back in the 90s, when I realized what shape things were in then, my adults just told me to shut up. They said they didn't care. Greta had supporting players who let her express herself on these, the things that matter. I wish we had more kids whose parents let them address the world like this. It's going to be theirs. They should have a say in what it looks like.

I was talking like Greta when I was a kid, but I didn't do much beyond steal some native plants off private land before they got covered over with concrete.

She took it way farther than that and I wish I could be a fraction as heroic as her. Not just saving the trees and whales, but fighting for oppressed people all over the world.

This is still based as hell don't sell yourself short.

Adults: Kids, its up to you to save the world.

Kids: Okay

tries to save the world

Adults: GET A FUCKIN' JOB!

[–] theuniqueone@lemmy.dbzer0.com 50 points 3 days ago (1 children)

They don't want to admit they don't care about saving the world they just want to ignore the problems and pretend nothing's wrong.

I got my boomer relative to admit I was right about class struggle and that they just want nothing to change until after they're dead

[–] Xenomorph@hexbear.net 81 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Boomers: Young people today are lazy and stupid!

Young Person: (is proactive and brave)

Also Boomers: rage-cry

[–] godlessworm@hexbear.net 37 points 3 days ago

NOOO THE PROPER WAY TO BE PROACTIVE AND BRAVE IS OBEY YOUR BOSS AND SUPPORT THE POLICE!!!!

[–] CommunistCuddlefish@hexbear.net 59 points 2 days ago (1 children)

She got so based and I really hope Isn'treal doesn't assassinate her.

[–] Evilsandwichman@hexbear.net 49 points 2 days ago (4 children)

Sadly if they murder her and use the excuse 'we were protecting our sovereignty', you know the news is gonna run with it. I remember wondering how the news was gonna spin the exploding beeper terror attack cause I knew they were gonna spin that story.

[–] TheLepidopterists@hexbear.net 31 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Jesus they've done so much evil stuff, I forgot terrorist beeper bombs going off and killing a bunch of civilians. There was basically no backlash for it either.

[–] BanSwitch2Buyers@hexbear.net 23 points 2 days ago (2 children)

I'm just gunna' mention an unsubstantiated rumour that I'm starting right now.

Switch 2's might have touched Israel at some point in the production process.

[–] TheLepidopterists@hexbear.net 17 points 2 days ago

I've said too many cool things on the internet, I can't risk letting an "israeli" game console into my house

[–] krolden@lemmy.ml 3 points 2 days ago

Theres so many reasons not to give Nintendo any money and this is like #4 on the list

[–] CommunistCuddlefish@hexbear.net 21 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Yeah you'd think the media would have more sympathy for a pretty young white woman but they'll dehumanize anyone who opposes genocide and capitalism. The media turned on her hard already.

[–] VILenin@hexbear.net 9 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Being Pro-Palestine results in your white card getting revoked

[–] Biggay@hexbear.net 2 points 2 days ago

cheeto-man "Like that dog chuck schumer he hates israel hes basically a palestinian now" trump-drenched

[–] VILenin@hexbear.net 7 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

They’ll murder her and release a picture of a “Hamas base” where there’s a photo of Greta on the wall labeled “KILL” and the media will run with it

[–] krolden@lemmy.ml 2 points 2 days ago

Fuck all news

[–] sharkfucker420@lemmy.ml 49 points 2 days ago

Watching Greta become who she is has been so inspiring

[–] UmbraVivi@hexbear.net 46 points 3 days ago

I would not have the guts to do this. I would literally shit myself every time I see a bird in the sky.

[–] Acute_Engles@hexbear.net 49 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Is there a word for something that evokes the feeling of hope and dread at the same time? Solidarity to everyone in the flotilla

[–] isame@hexbear.net 17 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

Antici...

But in all seriousness, I know the feeling you're describing, but I also don't have a word for it. It's not a great feeling.

...pation.

[–] crusa187@lemmy.ml 35 points 2 days ago

Great pic, best of luck to Greta and the flotilla on this voyage. Brave!

[–] godlessworm@hexbear.net 41 points 3 days ago (1 children)

[–] FALGSConaut@hexbear.net 34 points 3 days ago

erm-this-you "we call her Gaza Greta"

waow-based

[–] anarchoilluminati@hexbear.net 39 points 3 days ago (1 children)

I feel like this is going to be become one of those historic photos for a time period.

Hope they make it safely without issue.

[–] SoloboiNanook@hexbear.net 15 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Ngl id be pretty mad if the prevailing photo of the gaza genocide was Greta lol.

[–] anarchoilluminati@hexbear.net 2 points 2 days ago

Same, but you know she has a very high likelihood of pulling it off.

[–] VibeCoder@hexbear.net 18 points 2 days ago

I fear that standing at the bow of a ship that’s attempting to breaking a fascist blockade is now gender goals

[–] kristina@hexbear.net 18 points 2 days ago

If only the wind were cooperating better on the flag trans-sad

Strikes me as odd that the EU, or at least Sweden, is not issuing warnings to anyone (Isntreal, US, Germany) who tries to derail or damage the flotilla. Do a few Gripen flyovers to stress the point.

[–] Krem@hexbear.net 3 points 2 days ago

Sweden successfully applied to be a US protectorate a couple of years ago so their hands are tied (by themselves)

[–] umbrella@lemmy.ml 2 points 2 days ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

ill say this again: she has balls of steel.
