so.. were they recipients of USAID money or what?

[–] SkingradGuard@hexbear.net 14 points 4 days ago

Eh, idk but they definitely receive dark money from countless billionaires, money from their think tanks and all sorts of downright demonic people.

Daily Wire has largely been replaced by Asmongold and Adin Ross.

Hasan used to cover Ben Shapiro's videos to debunk his talking points, but he does that for Asmongold instead now. Adin Ross is an explicit fascist, who Hasan refuses to cover, unless it's something so popular it makes it into the regular news cycle, like Adin Ross interviewing Donald Trump

I can't believe a WoW streamer is the lead conservative commentator right now. What a weird time line.

Or does Fox / OAN still beat these online guys?

[–] prole@hexbear.net 11 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Not that weird when you think about how much effort has been put into rightwing propaganda in online games. Bannon was recruiting fash in WoW general chat like 20 years ago

[–] SevenSkalls@hexbear.net 3 points 3 days ago

I always forget that. So weird lol.

[–] Llituro@hexbear.net 7 points 3 days ago (1 children)

It's also a time where being a huge dumbass is a better argument for fascism and the fascist project's ongoing atrocities for "normie" fascists than bean shabibo's having to attempt making an actual argument in favor. Instead the mold bug can just say "Yeah, based, this guy's a terrorist"

[–] SevenSkalls@hexbear.net 4 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago)

Ya it's interesting that the audience looking for the faux intellectualism of debate pro Shapiro or Professor/Pseudo-Father Peterson seems to be waning. It's like people know the logical arguments suck and want to embrace the shitty aspects without having to embrace it.

Could also be that he's more situated for the new, rising audience of Gen Z's streamer culture instead of the millennial's YouTube video culture, too.

Either way, it does seem to be the logical evolution of 4chan and /pol/.

[–] sovietknuckles@hexbear.net 11 points 4 days ago (1 children)

It comes down to audience age. Fox and OAN surely dominate for viewers over 45, but 18-45 is dominated by streamers and YouTubers.

[–] SevenSkalls@hexbear.net 3 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago)

Ya thinking about it more, that did occur to me. I always forget how old I am and that a new generation is rising into adulthood that will now be catered to as i once was as a millennial.

[–] DamarcusArt@lemmygrad.ml 5 points 3 days ago

Were they the ones talking about how great it will be that AI will replace people's jobs? Or am I thinking of a different outlet?

[–] CloutAtlas@hexbear.net 14 points 4 days ago

The company that was sinking all that money into children's cartoons, a reactionary adult animated "comedy", and several films that make 0 dollars after tax write offs??

That Daily Wire?

[–] GrouchyGrouse@hexbear.net 13 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago)

Deep down they can't let go of their failed Hollywood aspirations. They tried and failed to make it big.

So they get all huffy and made their own media company to whine about it and blame it on woke and gay

And they find success. But deep down... that Hollywood career keeps calling. They can't resist that siren song. So they make their zany sports movie where where the premise is "what if transphobia was joke" and it flopped by all metrics. Probably cost a fair bit of money. Probably took a lot of their attention away from things that were making them money.

But, while you can take the theater kid out of the theater you can't take the theater out of the theater kid.

I mean, you have Hexbear, who are huge jerks, posting about the Daily Wire layoffs, and they're overjoyed. What an evil thing to do. What creeps, what jerks.

[–] propter_hog@hexbear.net 7 points 4 days ago

And Daily Wire is a beautiful site, the best news site. They have wonderful people, some real hotties, too.

Daily Fired kelly

Makes sense, their flagship wonk is currently getting his numbers completely annihilated by a guy who used a dead rat as an alarm clock.

[–] FloridaBoi@hexbear.net 8 points 3 days ago

Candace Owens is more successful since leaving too

[–] Frogmanfromlake@hexbear.net 8 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago) (1 children)

That Daily Wire + bullshit probably burned a lot of their money when it ended up failing hard. The only decent thing it had was that Pendragon series and even then the authors hard Evangelical outlook makes me wonder how ham fisted it is in his work.

Edit: looked into it and it’s what I expected. Pendragon Cycle has a hard Evangelical theme and it’s forced down your throat as the series goes on. The books of course. They’ve been filming this series for a while and still have yet to release anything.

Nobody gets that streaming services CAN NOT make money anymore unless you basically have a monopoly (cbs, paramount, Disney, Netflix). Everybody thinks streaming will get them subscription revenue but 95 percent of the time it’s a money pit

[–] Frogmanfromlake@hexbear.net 2 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Somehow this information didn’t come across to the ruthless businessmen running Daily Wire.

[–] bbnh69420@hexbear.net 2 points 3 days ago

I'd bet they, like most streamers outside of major production studios, saw it as a sequel to the "pivot to video" online media strategy and tried to squeeze more blood from a stone. Clearly doesn't seem to have worked

[–] propter_hog@hexbear.net 8 points 4 days ago

USAID and so forth

[–] hexaflexagonbear@hexbear.net 7 points 4 days ago (1 children)

The internal drama that lead to this sounds hilarious.

[–] tactical_trans_karen@hexbear.net 5 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Been boozing it up, kindly give me a tl;dr?

[–] hexaflexagonbear@hexbear.net 8 points 4 days ago

I meant the stuff that’s in the linked thread. Ie their PR VP digitally stalking former employees she had beefs with and using their PR as a way to get back at them

[–] ChaosMaterialist@hexbear.net 7 points 4 days ago (1 children)

:popcorn-time: That's terrible!

debate-me-debate-me "You seem kind of psyched..."

:popcorn-time: Noooooo. I'm bummed!

[–] BelieveRevolt@hexbear.net 7 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago) (1 children)

How did they have that much staff to begin with? I assumed that was just a make work program for kubrick-stare since he managed to be a Hollywood nepo failson too untalented for even a pity job.

[–] Robert_Kennedy_Jr@hexbear.net 6 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago) (1 children)

There is a ton of money dumped into right wing media to keep the hogs frothingfash and the algorithms for every large social media site invariably dumps it into people's laps. Like the podcast app I use will shove recommendations for Matt Walsh and Shapiro at me under True Anon playlists.

[–] DragonBallZinn@hexbear.net 5 points 4 days ago

Kind of wonder that since it’s even less deniable they’re the cultural mainstream now, that they will start doing stuff “progressive” media does. Paywalls and firing everyone in sight and just having as few staff as possible.
