I work for a huge international company no one has ever heard of and they laid off hundreds of people and outsourced 100+ more over the last two years. All in the US, teams in other countries don't seem to have any changes. I have no idea how I survived, they wiped out my whole team except for me and one other person.

I've been job hunting for years off and on, at least 100 applications and I have only gotten a couple interviews for equally shitty companies. I can't see things getting better any time soon, only worse. The companies know they have us locked in and I already feel the pressure to give more and more to avoid the next round of layoffs. I do 3-5x the work of any other person in measurable ways and who fucking knows how much shit I do behind the scenes.

45k is decent for entry level? Maybe in the cheapest places in the US, but that's only $22/hr for a job that requires a degree. You can make that wage selling legal weed on the west coast.

There are still 300 foot old growth trees in the PNW. Not nearly as many, of course, but I was just staring at a lot of 300+ Douglas firs the other day. The tallest tree in the area and one of the tallest in the world did catch fire recently, but I think they actually managed to save it

Also the electricity for those data centers is subsidized by increasing the cost of electricity for residential consumers AND they're still gonna paywall your new waifu

They definitely have reported on this. I read about this story days ago and I definitely don't follow NJ news.

But even searching just now I can find articles from lots of major outlets over the last 4 days. CNN, NYT, People, CBS, ABC, etc. Super easy to find, not sure why you would just make this up without even trying to look first.

Ok...? I didn't say it was okay or anything, not sure why you felt the need to say this. Not like there aren't already a dozen comments saying the same thing.

A lot of padlocks like this don't even need to be cut. Pretty much any of them with a spring loaded catch can be opened by hitting it. Don't even have to hit the cheaper ones that hard.

I've looked at a few lists here and there, but it seems like there just aren't many co-ops that recruit strangers online. Anyone have any experience working for a co-op as a dev? It seems like it would be an awesome way to structure a small web/app dev team. Part of me wants to try to start one myself, but it's hard to imagine maintaining the motivation needed for a task like that when I can barely function as it is.

Anyway, what's up with the lack of cooperatives? Sorry if this is the wrong comm, seemed like the best place
