All of this continues to make the political class look like a bunch of absolute dipshits who have no clue what they’re doing.

That last line is 🤌

[–] futatorius@lemm.ee 5 points 2 days ago

Spineless git.

[–] Maggoty@lemmy.world 34 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Trump has expressed a keen interest in being seen as rescuing a platform on which he’s been told he’s widely admired…

Whoever did this is a fucking genius. They love you on TikTok, you gotta save them!

Meanwhile on TikTok, another update of old labor movement songs.

[–] Corkyskog@sh.itjust.works 13 points 4 days ago

He actually does have a large following on Tiktok. There's Republicantok, but you won't see it if you're not a Republican or leaning that way.

[–] ikidd@lemmy.world 23 points 4 days ago

Fuck, Joe, you doddering old war criminal, you should double down and ban Facebook and X while you're at it. I know it's not as fun as sponsoring state terrorism, but at least it makes the kids cry.

[–] skygirl@lemmy.world 29 points 4 days ago (2 children)

This his honestly a hilarious article. I can't believe the state of leadership in the US these days.

It really is reaching tragicomedic levels.

[–] DarkFuture@lemmy.world 5 points 4 days ago

I can’t believe the state of leadership in the US these days.

Our representatives are a reflection of our voters.

"But money determines our representatives."

Yeah, because we suck at maintaining a democracy and slowly allowed that reality to come to pass. If we voted more intelligently we'd have more intelligent representatives and money wouldn't have the influence it does. Other countries have better, more intelligent representatives. We just suck.

I'm not convinced having a specific ruling targeting just tiktok would be a good move. I think I understand and side with all the reasons they are doing it: be it privacy, security and more. But they should not uniquely apply to tiktok, but to all apps. If suddenly there's a Russian app, or a Nigerian app or a swiss app, any which for whatever reasons has security and privacy concerns, they should all be held to the same standards. Me no like double standards.

There's plenty of american companies willing to sell sensitive data to anyone with money to buy. We need an overhaul of data privacy and all this focus on singular companies is missing the forest for the trees.

[–] K1nsey6@lemmy.world 7 points 3 days ago

It's never been about data, it's an awakening of class conscientiousness from people that threatens their existence and power. Now that people can see the lies we've always been told about China via RedNote we believe them even less.

And one more time on the way out, the Democrats fuck themselves. Biden should have let it stand and blame it on the Rs.

[–] TORFdot0@lemmy.world 9 points 4 days ago (2 children)

They don’t want Trump to get the credit for overturning the ban. So. Ow they are trying to rush it so that Biden can try to take credit.

[–] TORFdot0@lemmy.world 4 points 3 days ago

It is political, every other Democrat doesn’t want to be punished by voters for being the party that banned tik tok.

What difference does that make exactly? Everybody hates the guy, literally every American is ready for him to fuck off.

[–] small44@lemmy.world 20 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Basically the plan was just to force bytedance to sell the app and the ban was just to make pressure to achieve that goal

[–] Fredselfish@lemmy.world 8 points 4 days ago (3 children)

And they said they will not sale it so fucking stupid. Biden could just left alone, but now he wants to do something? How about stop fascist from taking over the government.

[–] Trilobite@lemm.ee 5 points 2 days ago

He was too busy releasing the judge who sold kids

[–] K1nsey6@lemmy.world 7 points 3 days ago

He has spent 50 year paving the road for our current state of Fascism, he's not gonna stop now

[–] DarkFuture@lemmy.world 14 points 4 days ago (2 children)

How about stop fascist from taking over the government.

He can't. The majority of voting Americans want it and voted for it.

[–] kreskin@lemmy.world 2 points 2 hours ago* (last edited 2 hours ago)

I wouldnt say they wanted fascism, a lot of voters just didnt want any more Biden.

[–] TrippaSnippa@lemm.ee 5 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Exactly. What do you want him to do? Attempt a coup to stay in power? Americans voted for this and nobody is coming to save you.

[–] Fredselfish@lemmy.world 9 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Supreme Court gave him immunity, hell he fucking old as shit. He could kill the lot of them, we build moments in his honor if he took that one act and sava America.

[–] DarkFuture@lemmy.world 2 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Yeah, I'm sure if Biden had Trump and company murdered, the majority of Americans that voted for Trump and company would be totally fine with that and build "moments" in honor of Biden, who they see as their enemy.

Are you high?

[–] Maeve@kbin.earth 1 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Autocorrected when out of the field of vision, from personal experience. It's not that hard to see what they mean, unless someone is more invested in "winning" by petty means.

[–] Llewellyn@lemm.ee 1 points 5 hours ago

But what about "sava"?

[–] JoshuaBrusque@lemmy.world 22 points 4 days ago
[–] pastermil@sh.itjust.works 12 points 4 days ago (1 children)

This is the epitome of his administration.

[–] BreadstickNinja@lemmy.world 7 points 3 days ago (1 children)

I'd say trying to take a victory lap for a Gaza ceasefire a couple days before leaving office, when he's been the one sending all the $17 billion of bombs and missiles that are being fired at Gazan kids in the first place, takes the top spot.

This is also stupid, ineffective, and incompetent, but with a significantly lower body count.

[–] pastermil@sh.itjust.works 1 points 3 days ago

At least this one happened over the course of about a year instead of less than a week.

[–] Blackout@fedia.io 14 points 4 days ago (1 children)

I wouldn't care if I was him. In fact I would also ban yeeting and skibaldi toilet while dabbing to the Harlem shakes

[–] Nasan@sopuli.xyz 2 points 2 days ago

Toss in cha cha sliding into the macarena while you're at it.

[–] BaroqueInMind@lemmy.one 11 points 4 days ago

What am absolute shitshow and the new dipshit isn't even sworn in yet

[–] K1nsey6@lemmy.world 3 points 3 days ago (2 children)

Love how the shit article keeps referring to Tiktoker as kids, as if it's an app only used by infantile adults.

[–] Doomsider@lemmy.world 8 points 3 days ago (1 children)
[–] K1nsey6@lemmy.world 1 points 2 days ago

There's no truth in it

[–] GreenKnight23@lemmy.world 0 points 2 days ago

if the shoe fits...

I haven't seen any evidence on the contrary after interacting with thicktokers complaining on Lemmy.

if anything they seem more upset that anyone would do this to a Chinese social media platform and misattribute first amendment rights violations or tell millennials that "shit changes old man".

either these are children (emotionally speaking), or they're paid Chinese/Russian propagandists that just want to "stir the pot".

[–] TheHobbyist@lemmy.zip 7 points 4 days ago (1 children)

TikTok ban is a political move. TikTok sends a message to China and protects Israel in one swoop. It has nothing to do with security or privacy of the American people. Biden thought TikTok was disposable collateral. They provided not one ounce of evidence that TikTok is used by the CCP to collect information on Americans. Much less the logic or evidence as to the value to the Chinese having American data when they got 1.4 billion people of their own. You need to learn politics. Biden got cold feet because he is worried about his legacy.

[–] Lost_My_Mind@lemmy.world 4 points 4 days ago

His legacy is already set. He will forever be remembered as a clueless man whos actions in office contridicted himself at many points.

Should have Bernie instead.
