So we crowdfunding his legal aid or what?

[–] Allonzee@lemmy.world 166 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (4 children)

The owners are trying to stop us from being able to.

GoFundMe, a for profit organization, took down an attempt to raise money for him.

He allegedly killed a low level owner, after all! Not some poorie livestock!

Raise all the money for poories you like though. Use GoFundMe, a percentage of your charitable transaction will go to their glorious private shareholders!

(don't use GoFundMe anymore)

Surely there has got to be an alternative

Honestly as much as I dislike crypto, this is the one time where it could actually come in clutch. Big corporates can't stop people from wiring bitcoin to an address.

Google trends in US for jury nullification over last 30 days...

[–] UltraGiGaGigantic@lemmy.ml 84 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Now this is the line going up I can get behind.

Doesn't look like him. Super convenient that the gun can't be traced so we just have to trust the cops that it really was his, and that he was just out walking around with the gun and a manifesto, just days after, when anyone would be lying low?? Not buying it.

[–] BananaTrifleViolin@lemmy.world 51 points 1 week ago (2 children)

There is a world where this guy is mentally ill - schizophrenia for example - and this is yet another example of the mentally ill falling through the gaping cracks in the US health care system.

To not dispose of the weapon or the fake ID, and continue wearing the same clothes suggests irrational behaviour.

Unfortunately the US legal system only seemingly regards mental ill health as a defense if you're very rich and lawyered up.

[–] theunknownmuncher@lemmy.world 67 points 1 week ago (2 children)

Or the cops fabricated it to close the case because they have zero leads

[–] Grapho@lemmy.ml 32 points 1 week ago (2 children)

If they fabricated it I hope the adjuster goes and redacts an ExxonMobil exec

News is saying his family is very wealthy. They own country clubs, health care facilities and real estate companies. And his cousin is a state delegate in Maryland. He also graduated from Ivy League college.

I’m kinda sick & tired of this story already, because it’s become a media spectacle that takes our eye off the ball: US private health insurance, US healthcare in general, and capitalism.

[–] Sergio@slrpnk.net 37 points 1 week ago (1 children)

On the other hand, it reminds everybody how much they hate the US health insurance system. And I mean everybody.

I feel it kinda highlights the healthcare and insurance issues, really puts it in our collective sights

He's Bachelor #3. I have no problem with that. The jackets even match.

[–] alquicksilver@lemmy.world 53 points 1 week ago

Yeah, these look like three different people. Mugshot doesn't look like the gunman, but does kinda resemble the taxi passenger. I'm not convinced this is the guy.

[–] antonim@lemmy.dbzer0.com 43 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Yeah, what the fuck, he grew a unibrow within a few days??

[–] s3p5r@lemm.ee 28 points 1 week ago

Mediterranean genes are fun like that

[–] RedditWanderer@lemmy.world 18 points 1 week ago

Yeah they match more the other picture of the dude smiling, which itself doesn't really look like the guy.

[–] floofloof@lemmy.ca 18 points 1 week ago

Look at all the lengths they go to when the victim is a rich exploiter.

Why does he have a big mouse cursor in his ear, is that a fashion statement or something

[–] Cort@lemmy.world 23 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Nah, ears are as unique as finger prints. They're trying to make it hard for someone else to disprove he's the killer.

Meh, so what? We already got a felon for our next president, why can't this fella run for president?

[–] thefartographer@lemm.ee 26 points 1 week ago (3 children)

If Biden pardons him, that would be so fucking legendary. Especially if he's like, "yeah, I pardon his state crimes too. Fuck y'all"

[–] granolabar@kbin.melroy.org 37 points 1 week ago

Biden would never upset his handlers like that...

That's actually the reason why we are here

I call bullshit. They don't do mugshots with a jacket and scarf on.

Doesn't even look like the same guy.

[–] ReanuKeeves@lemm.ee 46 points 1 week ago (1 children)

You'll need to be more specific about which of the pictures of random guys you mean he looks nothing like

This doesn't look like your average mugshot. 1) It's not taken in a police station, 2) I think people aren't allowed to have scarf's in mugshots, 3) It's a photo of a computer screen

[–] FrostyTheDoo@lemmy.world 43 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Honestly this looks like a different guy, personally I would acquit if they put him on trial with those photos as evidence. I'd be nervous if police asked me if I was in New York this week too.

There's no way he could have done this. Luigi sucks up ghosts inside rich people's homes, not makes ghosts outside.

Two thoughts here:

  1. How do they find an impartial jury? Is it possible to find an impartial jury?

  2. Will we ever learn if the McDonalds employee who turned him in received a payout?

To the latter. I was into OSINT to a lesser degree for several years. There are people who engage with it for the sole purpose of trying to find criminal people in order to collect reward money. However, the deal is, the amount posted is typically “up to” the amount posted, and, worse, can be contingent on conviction in a court of law. So, yes, I want to know if the McD Employee was paid as of yet.

Regardless of his personal politics, he did a good thing (assuming this even is the assassin)

Adventurism won't get us far though. One dead corporate ghoul won't do much; we need an organized party.
