Curious since it's being talked about in the news.

Inportant fact to consider is that: Political gerrymandering is a "non-justicable political question" according to the supreme court, meaning the courts claim they have no constitutional power to decide this, and its up to congress (via passing a bill with the president's approval) to decide if it should be legal, and in the mean time, it's currently legal.

Republicans have been gerrymandering in red states.

Democrats in blue states on the otherhand, are either currently using non-partisan or bi-partisan commitees/commissions to draw the districting maps, or are in the process of switching to said methods of drawing the districting maps.

This mean that the house would become tipped in favor of republicans.

California and New York surely has a lot of red districts that we can gerrymander out of. The question is: Should Democrats do that? Should Democrats play dirty like republicans have? (Again, supreme court have said that political gerrymandering is legal)

Because I fear that we would have republicans perpetually in control of the house even if Democrats have the most votes nationwide.

I mean, is "Deny, Defend, Depose" equivalent of "Let's kill [Person]"?

To me it seems more of a "It'd be a shame if [Person] died" and not a direct threat. So do y'all personally think its considered a direct threat? And how would a court of law (in the US) see the phrase "Deny, Defend, Depose"?

I'm asking because I've seen a number of comments removed for that phrase, including one of mine.

Mine was about 24 hours ago (yes I haven't sleept for a while) when in the dream, I was taking a train for some reason, and then everyone around me suddenly became zombies. Creepy.

My other dream was less weird, just my electronics started dying, then I looked outside my window and a nuke was going off in the distance and I realize my electronics got killed by the EMP of the nuke, then I woke up right before the shockwaves hit.

What are your weird dreams?

I knew it, Johnny has been sus this whole time!

Like imagine, one day... you turn on the news and see... "Breaking News: In a joint statement, the United Nations Security Council revealed that there has been an effort to conceal the existence of extraterrestial life that have arrived on our planet more than 50 years ago...". Its the trending top google search result, everyone on the internet is talking about it. How would you react. What would be the reactions of your relatives, friends, neighbors, and everyone else, and what would the front page of Reddit and Lemmy look like?

Prominent people like Politicians, CEOS, etc...

I know Lemmy has the ACAB sentinment, and I get it, I don't trust them either. But real talk tho, there are some scenarios where you might not have other options.

So... the question is: When, if ever, would you call for law enforcement? And if you distrust law enforcement, is there ever a situation where it gets so bad that you just have to risk involving law enforcement?

-Anyone saw the news about South Korea and their political situation? Imagine that situation happening in your country...

Lets say you live in a world where the world government has decided people are getting too addicted to the internet and ordered the internet to be shut down for 5 years. The 100 GB of storage is all you have (excluding essential system files for your Operating System). You have 24 hours before the internet is getting shut down. What do you download?

No using search engines or calculator, just imagine you were given these choices in jail and got 30 seconds to choose.

Would you rather have the executioner (Please excuse my use of firearm terminology, I'm not an expert in guns):

[A] Load 1 chamber of 6 and spin before pull the trigger 6 times (spinning the chamber after each pull)

or

[B] Load 2 chamber of 6 and spin before pull the trigger 3 times (spinning the chamber after each pull)

or

[C] Load 4 chamber of 6 and spin before pull the trigger once

If you survive, you are pardoned of all crimes you've committed in the past and get to leave prison (alive, obviously), no compensation tho. (Attempts to end your own life is illegal)

Which of these options would you pick?

No search engine, no calculator pls. I'm bored and wanna make this fun. 😉

If you are confused, ask in comments.

Edit: Reworded it to clarify that the chamber is spinned before the first trigger is pulled.

This question is inspired by the Australian law that bans people under the age of 16 from social media. But then when I though about it, couldn't the same argument be made for video games? I mean there are kids just waste their time on video games and not do any of their school assignments.

This purpose of post isn't me arguing for or against the Australian law or any hypothetical law about a similar ban on video games, I just want to see Lemmy's opinions on video games compared to social media. To me they seem like both have valid arguments of being harmful.

Edit: Added "Why or why not?" to the question.
