Any idea behind ethnostates invariably feel dangerously fascist.

"This land only welcomes X and anyone who isn't X should leave" - where X can be whites, blacks, jews, latins, arabs, japanese, whatever. Ethnic purity is stupid.

Paris Hilton. In the early 2000's, her fame came from a shitty "leaked" sex tape

Or start calling it Ninja Phenomena. Why is the observation not matching with the models and vice versa? It's those Ninja Phenomena at it again, wrecking stuff and hiding away!

And one of them was clearly a hobby she doesn't even enjoy, which is sex

but I can tell that “Gifted” as a term is not what you’ve presented in your post, not as of five years ago when my kid got placed into gifted classes and I went back looking into it and comparing it to what it was when I was a kid.

I blame the english language, then. The Venn diagram MelodiousFunk posted should hopefully help visualize what I meant somewhat

I’m just saying that the post here doesn’t really provide anything useful to someone coming across it. There’s no meat here.

Hard to distill almost 3 hours of talk into a lemmy post, but a valid point

My dude, at no point I explicitly or implicitly tried to equate being skilled with being gifted or talented, nor that being gifted has anything to do with religion or god. I didn't choose the term that the english language uses for this.

I won't bother with you anymore because it's clear you don't want to talk in good faith, at least not here

I don't like the choice of words either, mostly because of all the expectations associated with it, but the rest of your rant just goes off rails

The funny thing is that your logic is so poorly thought that you could apply it to all the attacks against Israel.

"Hey, Israelis, we're gonna bomb your homes! You better evacuate if you don't want to die!"

I'd like to be enlightened on the "nuclear warning shot" method the French have

Other points:

  • it's not mutually exclusive with any other neurodivergence, in which case they're "twice exceptional";
  • In an environment with unprepared people and professionals, they may be wrongly diagnosed as having some other neurodivergence.
  • It's not just a high IQ score;
  • Gifted kids can be problem students and have low grades;
  • Homework feels like torture (this is true to any child, tho);
  • They're very likely to question authorities and point out perceived hypocrisy (emphasis here on perceived, because pointing something and being right are different things);
  • As kids, they may have weird quirks for executing tasks, such as wanting to hold pencils the "wrong" way, or wanting to press against a wall to do homework;

If you're Brazilian or can understand Brazilian Portuguese, this is the podcast I listened to - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=apnuIIePeeA

Aos brasileiros que acabarem encontrando esse post, o podcast que assisti é o que linkei acima

The Aedes Aegypt can go fuck itself with all the diseases it spreads to us. Also, anywhere where it showed up as an unwanted guest, like all Americas, nature will just roll back 3 centuries or so.

Dunno if that will work in every country, but in Brazil, an easy way to get a discount for your home internet is calling and asking to cancel your line. They will offer a deal. I've heard, but have not tried myself, that if you refuse this first offer, they will later attempt a second, better offer.

Learn internet pirating skills. Nowadays it's mostly about knowing which sites can be trusted and having patience. Or just download telegram and look for channels and groups, I suspect it's a lower risk of being caught even in the USA without a VPN, though that may change soon.

Do some 10-15 second stretches often, every 2-4 hours or so. Can help with localized pains and in keeping them away. Physiotherapy and all that.

I've been interested in checking out some "DIY" boardgames, ones that you could just print the pieces/sheets/cards/tokens/etc and play.

I'm mostly interested in boardgames that can be played with 4+ people and require little setup or rules introduction, as I'm pretty much being the "gateway drug" for the group (everyone I've shown Blokus so far has loved the game).

I'm ok with knowing about heavy games (stuff that takes an afternoon to finish) to keep an eye on for future reference

I've been reading a book on the Paraguay War, Maldita Guerra, and it mentioned how Solano Lopez (then Paraguay's dictator) planned to invade Mato Grosso and possibly take Cuiabá. Trips upstream from Assuncion to Cuiabá at that time would usually take 12+ days on steam ships.

What really surprised me is that this kind of information was supposed to be taught back when I was in school.

Some weeks ago, I've come across Delta Chat, whose main thing is "(near) instant messaging using your email"

That left me thinking, has this been attempted before? If not, why? Also, why (besides servers' limitations as means to fight spam) isn't this solution used more often, given that e-mail has been a decentralized solution for well over 40 years now?

Time sure does fly, huh

Asking mostly because I have fuckloads of video courses, plus a number of movies, that I have yet to even check if the content is as good as their titles imply and I really feel like I'm mostly hoarding this stuff because I have no fucking clue.

However, despite all the attention Godot has been receiving, the switch from Godot 3 to Godot 4 called for the removal of Godot’s visual scripting system. This presented us with an amazing opportunity. We knew we needed to provide more to our users, and now Godot was lacking in a function that we know really well! And that’s how the current plan was kicked off.

Makes me wonder if they'll do something similar for RPG Maker if AGM does well enough commercially, since the RPG Maker Unite, which was supposed to work with Unity, died thanks to that charge the devs per-install kerfuffle.

Most major news sites, as well as some other sites of reading content like Medium, have a paywall for certain articles, but those are easily defeated by people who bother to search the internet.

As I suspect said companies are aware of that, and they don't react to properly protect their paid stuff, what do they expect to gain?

Asking because while I see that paint hardeners exist in the USA, there doesn't seem to be anything similar in my country (Brazil)

What could I use as a substitute to harden paints? Are there any catalysts or powders that would work?

Google and DDG always show sites/articles about epoxy resins whenever I search for "acrylic hardener", is it safe to assume that catalysts for epoxy, like polyamide, will work with acrylics?

I make the specification of non-linux because otherwise this would just become a thread full of obscure distros that do the same thing as a million other distros.

Some lesser known OSs:

  • AROS - based on Amiga OS, has some derivatives like IcarOS and MorphOS
  • Haiku - based on BeOS
  • Redox - Unix-like, made in Rust (might technically count as linux?)
  • Serenity - Unix-like, very late 90s look and feel
  • Kolibri - Tiny OS, the image is ~44MB. It also has a smaller version that fits in a single floppy.
  • PhantomOS - When 3 Russians decide to turn everything about a typical OS upside down.
