I have little doubt LLMs can be useful for learning, I use them frequently, however I have even less doubt that “AI” will be used as a battering ram to facilitate even more austerity being applied to education while simultaneously the only new funding given to education will be directed exclusively to morally bankrupt techbros who know jackshit about education instead of educators with a deep passion for what they do and it is a bleak future.

It is understandable that people spend more time with their worries and fears about AI, but research like this reminds us that there is another side to things. AI can also deliver cheap low cost education that can be deployed at scale all over the world, that is a huge dramatic improvement in people's lives.

The people that hate AI tend to forget that the ones that will misuse AI the most are big corps, and only regulations will stop them.

I suppose it can be good for simple math. For complex stuff though, it usually just makes me more confused and is just wrong the supermajority of the time
