I swear, some of these boomer comics are just the person wanting to tell a shitty joke they thought of.

[–] RagingRobot@lemmy.world 8 points 11 hours ago

Isn't that what all comics are? Lol

[–] vga@sopuli.xyz 7 points 19 hours ago* (last edited 19 hours ago) (1 children)

I've had a pretty bad and long relationship at one point in my life, I'm not exactly a young man anymore, and I still don't understand why the fuck anyone would think this shit is even remotely funny.

[–] LemmyKnowsBest@lemmy.world 2 points 12 hours ago

"Hard drive" is funny I guess because it can be interpreted two different ways.

[–] baggachipz@sh.itjust.works 73 points 1 day ago (2 children)

This is the kind of shit that grandpa prints out and gives to you.

[–] ivanafterall@lemmy.world 4 points 12 hours ago

Before elbowing you in the ribs, handing you a lint-covered butterscotch candy, and lighting a cigarette while hacking up a lung.

[–] brown567@sh.itjust.works 10 points 1 day ago

It funny because Family Bad™

[–] hansolo@lemmy.today 82 points 1 day ago (4 children)

Hur dur Boomer humor.

Needs 30% more hating their wife for no reason at all.

[–] RememberTheApollo_@lemmy.world 1 points 7 hours ago (1 children)

The whole “hating my wife” thing has been around for a really long time. I hope my generations tiresome jokes aren’t just based on shitting on people like so many boomer jokes seem to be.

Wonder what my generation’s shitty joke legacy will be.

[–] angstylittlecatboy@reddthat.com 2 points 7 hours ago

Right now with the youth it's shitting on people who disagree

[–] Simulation6@sopuli.xyz 2 points 17 hours ago

Someone pointed out that every generation eventually becomes the next generations boomers.

This is boomer hoomer done right not like that other poster.

[–] Klear@quokk.au 28 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Hard drive good, phone bad.

Phone bad, wife bad, young people bad

[–] captainlezbian@lemmy.world 3 points 20 hours ago (4 children)

I can confirm. Not even loved ones make that drive easy. The Rockies are hard to drive over. Fucking beautiful, but scary

[–] MintyFresh@lemmy.world 2 points 8 hours ago

Those passes are an affront to the gods. Man was never meant to traverse them in a pleather seat with climate control.

[–] SlartyBartFast@sh.itjust.works 1 points 7 hours ago

You gotta use the roads, it makes it a little bit easier

[–] LemmyKnowsBest@lemmy.world 3 points 12 hours ago (1 children)

Ooh yeah that part going down Eastward past Vail is a hell of a nightmare drive. That road needs to be repaved every year with their rough Winters, even still the ruts in the road will keep trying to throw you into the next lane, while you're trying so hard to stay in your own lane, and the ruts in the road sound like you burst a tire. It's two hours of white knuckle driving.

[–] captainlezbian@lemmy.world 2 points 7 hours ago

It was Montana westward past Yellowstone. I spent my life in the loving embrace of just west of the Appalachians and so I thought that since I've done my share of driving through Kentucky it would be bad but bearable. Then it started snowing at waist height in late spring. I wasn't prepared for that.

[–] ivanafterall@lemmy.world 2 points 12 hours ago

The Rockies are the best part. Fuck fucking Nebraska though.

[–] TheFunkyMonk@lemmy.world 20 points 1 day ago

[–] handsoffmydata@lemmy.zip 10 points 1 day ago

Did HDDs stop existing? Someone tell my NAS.

[–] IrateAnteater@sh.itjust.works 16 points 1 day ago (7 children)

Hard drives are going to be one of those in between things that Gen x/millennials will understand, but were already obsolete by the time Gen z rolled around.

[–] HugeNerd@lemmy.ca 1 points 11 hours ago

Pfff next thing you'll tell me is that 3.5" floppies are obsolete too?

[–] jumping_redditor@sh.itjust.works 10 points 1 day ago (1 children)

hard drives are still relevant for bulk storage

[–] IrateAnteater@sh.itjust.works 3 points 1 day ago (1 children)

True, but most consumers aren't doing bulk storage. Most people just have cell phone and laptop

you must find really boring people

[–] undefined@lemmy.hogru.ch 8 points 1 day ago (3 children)

I’m confused, I call both HDDs and SSDs hard drives or disks. What’s the non-obsolete term?

[–] Fish@midwest.social 9 points 1 day ago (1 children)

HDD is hard disk drive. SSD is solid-state drive. Though I still use the term "hard drive" to refer to both of them.

[–] undefined@lemmy.hogru.ch 4 points 1 day ago

I know what the acronyms mean. But I refer to them both as hard drive.

[–] Axolotl_cpp@feddit.it 2 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

HDD mean Hard drive, SSD mean Solid State Drive;

The joke is about HDD not being used which is wrong

[–] undefined@lemmy.hogru.ch 4 points 1 day ago

I know what the acronyms mean. But I refer to them both as hard drive.

[–] Sadbutdru@sopuli.xyz 1 points 1 day ago

I'm guessing cloud?

[–] SpaceNoodle@lemmy.world 12 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Hold the fuck up, did you just acknowledge the existence Gen X?

[–] IrateAnteater@sh.itjust.works 9 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Gotta keep them on their toes.

[–] SpaceNoodle@lemmy.world 6 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I'm always on my toes. My toes hurt. Please stop abusing my toes

[–] Lost_My_Mind@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

puts legos under SpaceNoode's toes

[–] SpaceNoodle@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Joke's on you, I fucking love LEGOs

[–] vaultdweller013@sh.itjust.works 1 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

puts megablox under SpaceNoode's toes

[–] SpaceNoodle@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Joke's on you, I've accepted Mega Bloks because they had the Star Trek license back in the day

[–] Darkmuch@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Fuck. What do we have left? Lincoln Logs? Tinker Toys?

[–] MonkeyTown@midwest.social 2 points 23 hours ago* (last edited 23 hours ago)

Go old school with Jax/ jacks.

Oooooooof

[–] SpaceNoodle@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago

Literal caltrops?

[–] dragonfucker@lemmy.nz 2 points 23 hours ago (1 children)

Drag thinks solid state drives are drives and they're hard.

[–] aBundleOfFerrets@sh.itjust.works 2 points 18 hours ago (2 children)

But, my dearest Drag, you miss the point! There will be generations of humans that have no experience of spinning rust, of whirring platters, or of the dreaded tick- tick- tick- of a crashed head and lost data. What will they do?

[–] HugeNerd@lemmy.ca 1 points 11 hours ago (1 children)

How are hard drives "spinning rust"? Are solid state drives "stationary sand"?

Magnetic recording materials have historically been metal oxides, I have no clue if that remains true for modern hard drive platters. I guess you could argue that SSDs are stationary sand, but you could make the same argumant for the majority of semiconductors so I don’t think it sufficiently specifies SSDs.

[–] dragonfucker@lemmy.nz 4 points 18 hours ago

Probably invent new kinds of sex we can't even imagine

[–] Dreaming_Novaling@lemmy.zip 2 points 1 day ago

Well, people like to say "check their hard drives" when referring to pedos, so the word itself isn't lost yet. But there might be some other Gen Z's who don't actually know what that is considering we were raised with Chromebooks...

The guy is not wrong. I have dozens of HDDs but he's talking about an actual hard drive. I also have a wife, 3 1/2 kids and my dog just died. I've seen some shit.
