Could be, that data for wealth isn't easily available for both countries.
Income inequality is about the same in USA and China though, Gini coefficient around 0.41 in both countries. Most figures put China slightly more inequal than USA for income.
Dealing with surplus humans has never been a problem for communist countries. Just stop allocating them food for 2 months.
Not sure if China is that sort of a communist country these days though, but it sure retained the authoritarian parts.

I cannot speak for anyone else, but a year ago I thought that I'd never buy a chinese laptop due to political reasons and here we are one year later and I have a Lenovo. I think most people will eventually make their decisions based on something else than politics, or that politics are in issue only when choosing between things that are identical enough in every other way.
Given the amount of publicity they've received from all this, I'm inclined to be a bit conspiracy theoretic about this.... Did they plan it to unfold exactly like it did? Are you all helping them?

Code of Conduct, a set of instructions describing how people contributing to a project are expected to behave. It usually says "don't be an asshole" but some go deep into specifics what they mean by that.

They are being wrong politically. I think Vaxry (the hyprland developer) opposed to some CoC in Freedesktop and was thus banned. Probably some other anti-woke stuff too. DHH has some pretty right-wing views (e.g. "London is not how I remember it anymore because there are too many foreigners" [paraphrased]) and used his blog to disseminate those views. Perhaps a bit ironically after loudly declaring that politics shouldn't be talked about at the workplace. I guess technically speaking his blog isn't the workplace.
Hardly cancel-worthy stuff even though I don't personally agree with a lot of them. But people are such snowflakes these days and at some point the FOSS community got so fundamental about certain opinions that Spanish Inquisition would look at them and say "Jesus Christ, bring it down a notch".
They probably couldn't imagine such a thing to make it a sin. Evidence: because they totally would have.
