Gabe doesn't seem to let it get him down. Probably something wrong with him.

Exactly. If your fucks are being wasted on being un-happy, stopping giving them. Can't fix a problem with the resources, tools, and/or assistance available to you? Repeat after me: I don't give a fuck about this right now, what else can I do?

isn't this Buddhism in a nutshell?

[–] HeyThisIsntTheYMCA@lemmy.world 5 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Someone once asked me "How are you so happy?" (for context, I was in the hospital and I would read the weekly world news for entertainment while in there. Good, light reading that didn't take too much attention span and made me giggle) and I really wanted to answer "fuck you, that's why."

I feel like I would fit well with Buddhism

buddhism does not promote insulting in any way. It teaches respect and contempt

[–] sheogorath@lemmy.world 2 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Buddhism goal is not to be happy, but to be content. Because being content will allow you to achieve Nirvana I guess.

Content = ecstacic when you compare it to the general public these days.

I think Buddhism acknowledges everything is suffering (sangai kaiku - zen)

[–] GoofSchmoofer@lemmy.world 2 points 2 months ago (1 children)

I think it's more that Buddhism states that because we suffer (attach ourselves to emotions, feelings and stuff) that we can be Content. That when we no longer attach to these hindrances then you've reached Nirvana (Contentment)

That's a fair interpretation. My point was to illustrate that the goal of Buddhism isn't to achieve happiness, but rather a practice to observe "truth" and the "source" of all things. This has the benefit, in my experience, of managing unnecessary suffering.
