Please note that NSFW/NSFL videos must be labeled as such or they will be deleted

Edit: also keep in mind that initial information in these situations can often be inaccurate. Trusted outlets have conflicting reports about whether a suspect has been detained.

Edit 2: the campus has officially stated they release the initial subject. Donald Trump has stated Charlie Kirk is dead.

I’m sorry for his death. I disagreed with most of his points, I’m not event from the USA, but I hate seeing people celebrating the assassination of someone. What a fucked up world.

[–] kandoh@reddthat.com 5 points 35 minutes ago (1 children)

My prediction is that another right-wing loon shit him, but even if they find the guy they'll still blame the left the same way they did with the trump shooter.

[–] kandoh@reddthat.com 2 points 19 minutes ago (1 children)

WSJ is reporting the ammo was inscribed with trans and antifacist ideology.

Honestly have my doubts, I'm not one of those false flag people but the way the right is jumping on this and Kirk's refusal to toe the line with Epstien stuff makes me suspicious.

Oh boy, martial law incoming 👀

It really says something about what a POS you are when you get shot dead and everyone's reaction is to point and laugh.

Weapon found, lots of surveillance footage recovered, including images of the shooter (not released).

[–] AcidiclyBasicGlitch@sh.itjust.works 4 points 22 minutes ago (1 children)

Do you remember how quickly the FBI released footage of Luigi shooting that CEO? Why are they not releasing any footage of this person?

[–] Nougat@fedia.io 3 points 2 minutes ago

They'll say that it's because they want to exhaust other leads before seeking the public's help in identifying by face. They claim to have "good video footage."

But probably they don't want to allow the shooter to be lionized the way Luigi was. Not releasing images now only puts that off, though, doesn't prevent it entirely.

Have they noted anything in terms of where the bullet went? From watching footage of both angles, I didn't see an exit wound, so did it get lodged inside? Makes me wonder if the shooter took extra effort in the angle used, a hollow-point etc.

  1. They immediately detained people who confronted Charlie at the event (as they were more democratic), but obviously were not the shooter.

  2. The FBI says there is a massive manhunt for the shooter and are asking for any help they can get.

  3. The Right IMMEDIATELY blamed democrats and the "radical left" are calling for our murders and a civil war, without any scrap of evidence to prove their claims.

  4. The shooter was a ghost, some videos show a black figure on a roof 142 yards from the tent, well blended in and in all black. There is also video of the shooter running off the roof immediately after the shooting and got lost in the chaos. It's been over 18 hours and no suspect has been caught.

  5. Just before this event, Charlie voiced concerns over other right wing conservatives not aligning with his ideals and voicing concern over Israel. He was wearing body amour at this event and the shooter knew it. Extra security was brought in for this event.

The most logical explanations for this shooting would be:

  1. Another right wing radical taking out a voice they feel is hurting their cause for the movement and to cause chaos in the political spectrum.

  2. A political assassination carried out by Donald Trump and his team to start a war with democrats and start a real war within on anyone that doesn't agree with them. AKA False Flag.

It's just too clean a getaway and too good of a shot for any other explanation considering the angle of the shot, the elevation change, the crowd, and the heightened security.

It would be Mostly likely one of Enrique Tarrio's boys released from prison. That shooting had all the hallmarks of a military operation, including the single shot fired.

I find the demands from the far right to have empathy for Kirk so distasteful... I see them dive into their favourite victim role so quickly and all the woe is us and the "See, the left is dangerous" stupid rhetoric.

Kirk himself said that empathy was destroying the world, why do we need to feel empathy for that asshole now?! Like always the right only cares when it affects them...

I'm soooo tired about the nonsense from the far right.

This attack is only going to galvanize the far right, so I sure hope that the shooter turns out to be right wing. If he's left wing, I fear for the lives of many of us. The nazis are trigger happy.

what, youre taking advice from charlie kirk now?

its jokes and harassment when the left gets attacked, shot or assassinated, with not a single cry for decorum, or empathy, or anything good out of the right. Just sarcastic smirks and disgusting comments.

but as soon as a right winger gets shot, Suddenly the country is supposed to join hands in Kumbaya and offer immense empathy and support for the people who spread hate, encourage violence, and do nothing but victimize themselves by stirring up the hate and violencepot with no consideration that it'll be their own faces it blows up in...all while the right wing hate-o-sphere is on full diatribe about blaming it all on the lefts "violent rhetoric and actions"

[–] madjo@feddit.nl 1 points 46 minutes ago

I've seen a lot of "Fascism comes from the left" comments everywhere today. It makes me wanna thanos snap people out of existence.

Turning Point USA CEO and co-founder Charlie Kirk said of gun deaths on April 5, 2023, "I think it's worth it. I think it's worth to have a cost of, unfortunately, some gun deaths every single year so that we can have the Second Amendment to protect our other God-given rights."

Play stupid games, win stupid prices...

I get the strong feeling that this shooting was done by a professional.

  • 1 single shot from over two hundred yards away
  • shooter escapes like a ghost, and it doesn't seem like the police have found any evidence he was even there.
  • a separate person seemingly providing a distraction so the shooter can get away and the police just let him go.

Makes me wonder a few things

  • was this a false flag? (seems most likely) - especially when you consider the context of trump wanting to send military into US cities and the Republicans voting against releasing the epstein docs on the same day. This shooting was an absolutely fantastic distraction and could easily be used by trump to promote his usage of military against US cities.
  • was this sponsored by someone
  • was this another country?
  • if the shooter escaped so easily, how likely is it that he does this again somewhere else?
[–] untorquer@lemmy.world 4 points 2 hours ago (3 children)

Shooting is a skill you can learn, improve, and build expertise in. You don't need military or agency training, just a place to practice and maybe an instructor. Next, it's hard to locate a single shot, especially when unexpected. There would be echos and conflicting reports from observers under duress.

Occams razor is the shooter was a practiced with good aim, good optics, and a good escape plan(so far). That much has zero requirement for outside assistance.

The United Healthcare shooting was way dirtier in terms of evidence, skill, and plan. It still took them days to find the suspect they wanted to prosecute and that after other suspects were released. They will do a similar manhunt here.

I highly suspect Trump will get "intel" that the shooter is hiding in a blue American city like New York or Chicago and take it over with the military. I think he will use this to escalate his military take over of cities.
