It’s all fun and games until Republicans use this as an excuse to further enforce their fascist agendas. Just glad this happened in Utah and not Illinois or California. Blue states will likely bear the brunt of the repercussions if there are any.

[–] ubergeek@lemmy.today 5 points 6 days ago

You mean like deploying troops in our cities?

Oh wait, they already did that.

Or, do you mean shipping people off the concentration camps?

Oh shit, that's already being done.

What you're upset about is that the fascism has stepped closer to YOU.

[–] Blackmist@feddit.uk 4 points 6 days ago

They do that anyway. Fuck 'em.

[–] Montagge@lemmy.zip 239 points 1 week ago (23 children)

They were going to no matter what because no one is willing to stop them. Now there's one less.

[–] murvel@feddit.nu 1 points 6 days ago

Because of guns?

[–] njm1314@lemmy.world 35 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

Were? They already are. Is there no one who remembers what happened in Minnesota a few months ago?

I doubt he survived that, but if he did he'll be fucked for life

[–] danc4498@lemmy.world 5 points 1 week ago

I just saw the news. Holy shit. I mean, how big of an iPhone screen do you need?

[–] lechekaflan@lemmy.world 4 points 1 week ago (1 children)

He didn't. The shot blew a major artery, death in less than a minute.

[–] Montagge@lemmy.zip 4 points 1 week ago

Shame he didn't suffer

It’s all fun and games until Republicans use this as an excuse to further enforce their fascist agendas.

Republicans are marching National Guard soldiers into the largest cities in America on exaggerated "crime fighting" excuses. They have established an unaccountable militia with ICE hiding their identities and violating the civil rights of American citizens on exaggerated or fabricated drug/violence reasons. They've needed no legitimate excuses to do these things, yet they are actively doing them. This changes nothing on that front.

[–] Amberskin@europe.pub 1 points 6 days ago (2 children)

Looking for afar, with an ocean between where I live and where this happened…

It’s not the government you have to be worried about. They are fascists, and they were going to escalate anyway. It’s the mesh of Nazi militias you have, which can decide to go openly ‘hunting’ progressives. Don’t expect Law enforcement to do anything about that (and iirc the groups who were watching those bastards have been dissolved).

[–] partial_accumen@lemmy.world 4 points 6 days ago (1 children)

It’s the mesh of Nazi militias you have, which can decide to go openly ‘hunting’ progressives.

You're proving my point. The Nazi militias already started this months ago before yesterday's kirk death: Minnesota lawmaker Melissa Hortman killed, State Sen. John Hoffman wounded in 'targeted political violence'

[–] Amberskin@europe.pub 1 points 6 days ago (1 children)

Yeah, that’s right, but I was thinking more about actions conducting to massacres and mass murders. I really want to be wrong about this.

[–] partial_accumen@lemmy.world 1 points 5 days ago

If they're going to do that, they'll do it anyway manufacturing their own pretext as the have already done with marching the military into cities that don't like trump and his fascist policies.

[–] ubergeek@lemmy.today 3 points 6 days ago

Don’t expect Law enforcement to do anything about that

They already don't... The closest we can expect is cops protecting the roving bands of militias... Which they already do.

[–] chemical_cutthroat@lemmy.world 42 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Lmao, I love that person's logic. "Don't do anything to piss of the fascists, they might do something fascist."

They'll make up whatever excuses they need either way so it doesn't really make a difference.

[–] jjjalljs@ttrpg.network 15 points 1 week ago

They're going to do fascism no matter what! They don't care about truth. They can just make shit up if they need to rile up their supporters.

[–] Taldan@lemmy.world 13 points 1 week ago

It'll be interesting to see the contrast with the political response to this assassination compared to the Democratic Minnesota lawmaker that was assassinated a couple months ago

I get the distinct feeling conservatives won't be nearly as silent about this one

[–] Sprocketfree@sh.itjust.works 12 points 1 week ago

Except they haven't needed an excuse to date. I'm sick of this boogyman. Punch back, they haven't been pulling any punches.

[–] BlameTheAntifa@lemmy.world 10 points 1 week ago

It will be like the Iraq war.

Saudi Arabia was responsible, but we're going to attack Iraq instead.

[–] wheezy@lemmy.ml 7 points 1 week ago

This accelerates it for sure. I think more of what this will do is show us a clear line of liberals becoming fascist as they criticize "leftist violence".

And, to be clear, we have no idea what the motivation of the shooter was. THAT MOTIVATION DOES NOT MATTER. Please do not waste your time arguing with the fascist over this. They already made up their mind on how they would use this for their narrative. They control all media outlets.

Get off the internet and get ready to keep your family and neighbors safe. This was coming. But it's coming faster now. The liberals will only focus on condemning this violence NOT the state violence that is about to follow.

[–] amanneedsamaid@sopuli.xyz 6 points 1 week ago (4 children)

I think this is a net positive, especially because the shooter was reportedly an old white guy

[–] inclementimmigrant@lemmy.world 19 points 1 week ago (1 children)

per AP:

Person taken into custody after Charlie Kirk was shot in Utah is not believed to be shooting suspect, AP source says

[–] dhork@lemmy.world 21 points 1 week ago

"The person was initially a suspect but then was cleared when police realized he wasn't trans"

  • I made that up, but it's probably not far from the truth
[–] kboy101222@sh.itjust.works 16 points 1 week ago (3 children)

They've confirmed it wasn't him. The shooter was on a building 200 yards away

[–] ShaggySnacks@lemmy.myserv.one 8 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I dunno what you're talking about. The was with me playing the new Mario Kart game. I was in first place then I got blue shelled.

That's probably a net positive for odd white guys too, the bar is in hell these days.

Oh, yeah, they will, but that's inevitable anyway. It won't occur to them that oppressing Dems will only make them stronger and more resolved. Nothing has created more terrorists than Conservative military operations.
