the Iranian military attacked a crowd of protesters, killing ~88 and injuring between 205-8,000. The violence increased the unrest, leading to a general strike and the Shah fleeing the country in January 1979.

The massacre, known as Black Friday, began when thousands of protesters gathered in Tehran's Jaleh Square for a religious demonstration, unaware that the government had declared martial law a day earlier due to widespread political unrest.

Some sources estimate that 4,000 people were shot down by tanks, guns, and military helicopters. The deaths were described as the pivotal event in the Iranian Revolution that ended any "hope for compromise" between the protest movement and regime of Shah Mohammad Reza Pahlavi.

The massacre led to widespread protests, and a general strike in October shut down the petroleum industry that was essential to the administration's survival. The Shah fled Iran in January 1979, clearing the way for the Iranian Revolution, led by Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini.

Welcome to in-office work, we have

  • your open floor plan neighbor coughing uncontrollably
  • someone taking a loud call on their speaker for some reason
  • those two guys whose job you don’t understand who just walk around interrupting people with small talk

I love working culture!!!

I'm terrified of being no 2 because I like to chat sometimes but fortunately the most annoying guy in there is already doing it and acts as a warning.

My romance languages professor just generated a paragraph of film analysis in spanish using Deepseek no-no-no-wait-wait-wait

Just so we can make fun of how bad it is. doggirl-thumbsup

It's horrendously poorly written that compares to a high school Spanish student. Overuse of gerunds just like in english text (+ gerunds after prepositions instead of infinitive which is a straight up error), setting up subjunctive clauses but never actually conjugating the subjunctive. Terrible lexicon that sounds like someone fed it through google translate from English, overuse of "pero" and no use of other transitional phrases. No use of perfect tenses in complex sentences, instead erroneously using the preterite in literary analysis. Surface level analysis of subject matter (A is B, but C makes it like D repeated 10 times)

Actually let me not insult high school students, they could do better in broken spanglish than what deepseek could do, I hope this AI theranos machine crashes and burns to the ground. This isn't castellano it's americano-blancano.

I should have studied AI and ML during university, now I am too tired and traumatized (by reading OCD) to even bother so I will probably remain an unemployed husk for the forseeable future. I just don't have that ability to chase the correct opportunities you need to succeed in capitalism even though I might have had the potential to achieve something

To anyone who has read SPK's Turn Illness Into a Weapon: is there anything I ought to read in preparation to better understand it, or is having listened to a bunch of Death Panel enough to scrape by?

Someone should tell these bugs in Silksong that if they have a long, pointy head, it's not a good look to also be wearing a white robe

Someone put some unknown (to me) wild harvested beans in the free area and my first identification attempt says they are poisonous, but im still not really sure what they are. Knowing what things are is important incase if the person who picked them was incorrect, but it would be nice if they labeled what they were 😭

Have you started? I've been using "Linux" for almost 3 years now and I'm still constantly learning new things.

The fucking generator in our car has given up on life and even though our mechanic charges is really good prices it still cost an arm and a leg to replace it.

Cars suck so much. Just give me transit that actually works.

Joined a jobs discord from /r/jobs and holy fucking shit these are some deeply incurious and frankly, useless people

I comment on how the internet seems dead for job prospects and the express how concerned I am that the internet has managed to capture our lives to this extent, but all I’m getting is β€œThis isn’t new, technologies change. Adapt and move on.”

It’s like, did you read anything that I posted? It will take a Godamn miracle for me to interact with human being with how there are no guardrails whatsoever when it comes to internet pollution.

how much do y'all think a "vegan chef" should be paid "in the south" (u.s.)

by "chef" i mean it's technically my job title and I cook like 3 dishes to feed the 70-80ish people who eat vegan stuff at this school and frequently make extra stuff when I have time and despite it not being my explicit responsibility (my predecessor was like 'i'm not paid enough for that' and didn't) I work with the sous chef to figure out the side items on the menu + frequently ad-lib/change them (for the better) (so even though I am like 70% imposter syndrome here I still feel like I'm 30% cheffing it)

I KNOW I'm underpaid I just want y'all to give me a number
