Hard to choose, but I find Old Gold and most of 36 Crazyfists super underrated. Especially the end of the bridge and into the final chorus of Old Gold is one of my fav moments in any metal song.

The singers got a new band Paradise Slaves.

[–] LettyWhiterock@lemmy.world 2 points 3 hours ago

Wintersaga by Wind rose. My favorite band by a long shot.

[–] whotookkarl@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 3 hours ago* (last edited 3 hours ago)

Archspire - Drone Corpse Aviator, first song that popped in my head thinking of contemporary metal

https://youtu.be/MlnGYcMpxgU

Cannibal Corpse - Hammer Smashed Face, groovy and brutal

https://youtu.be/gNhN6lT-y5U

Electric Wizard - Funeralopolis, grungy doom goodness, love that bass line

Been feeling Black Label Society lately, specifically Stillborn and Blessed Hellride.

[–] FreedomAdvocate@lemmy.net.au 1 points 4 hours ago

Right now it’s The Tales of War by Orbit Culture. Amazing band.

[–] bridgeenjoyer@sh.itjust.works 5 points 6 hours ago

Thats a hard one. But im a sucker for Metropolis part 1 by dream theater.

[–] KingGimpicus@sh.itjust.works 4 points 7 hours ago

Right now its still probably Killing Time and Space by Nekrogoblikon. Goblins, cosmic history, and a banjo? In my metal? Helllll yeah brother.

[–] Creativity@lemmy.zip 3 points 7 hours ago

As the others mentioned, there's way too many options.

Heimat - Equilibrium (folk metal)

Score to a new beginning - Fairyland (symphonic metal)

Seven pillars of wisdom - Sabaton (power metal)

[–] NotASharkInAManSuit@lemmy.world 2 points 6 hours ago

Wizard Fight by Weedeater. If I had to choose.

[–] Zorsith@lemmy.blahaj.zone 5 points 8 hours ago (1 children)
[–] ivanafterall@lemmy.world 4 points 7 hours ago (1 children)

This album is a Top 5/desert island choice for me, but No Leaf Clover is my favorite, though I've worn it out so much over the years.

[–] Zorsith@lemmy.blahaj.zone 1 points 6 hours ago* (last edited 6 hours ago)

Oooh, same. That version of No Leaf Clover is waaaaay up there for me. That and The Memory Remains.

I'm in the weird position that that album was my introduction to metallica, so any version other than the full symphony sounds weird to me 😅

What kind of metal do you like?

Meshuggah - Bleed

Rotting christ - ze nigmar

[–] Rai@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 8 hours ago

Opeth - Black Rose Immortal

Got me into metal when I was very young, and overall it’s an incredible song.

[–] djvinniev77@lemmy.ca 0 points 4 hours ago

The Prince by Metallica is always a banger.

[–] Deconceptualist@leminal.space 13 points 12 hours ago (2 children)

Black Sabbath, by Black Sabbath, from the album Black Sabbath.

[–] pwalshj@lemmy.world 5 points 10 hours ago (1 children)

Where do you stand on "Hocus Pocus" by Focus?

[–] Deconceptualist@leminal.space 3 points 9 hours ago (1 children)

Pretty good track! But maybe not as good as Weed by Weed, from the album Weed.

[–] spacemanspiffy@lemmy.world 3 points 8 hours ago (1 children)

I like that song "Bad Company", but I forgot who wrote it.

[–] Deconceptualist@leminal.space 2 points 7 hours ago* (last edited 7 hours ago)

I don't recall, but I'm pretty sure it's off the Bad Company album.

I'm also a big fan of Iron Maiden, the last track on Iron Maiden, and Motörhead from the Motörhead release.

Painkiller by Judas Priest will always have a special place in my heart due to the hours 11 year old me spent air-guitaring that solo.

No Surrender by Beast in Black

[–] abbadon420@sh.itjust.works 5 points 11 hours ago

I can't place Cradle of Filth above Iron Maiden, but this is a good version.

[–] 58008@lemmy.world 9 points 12 hours ago (1 children)

Arbitrary choice, but Wherever I May Roam by Metallica never gets old for me.

[–] Jarix@lemmy.world 5 points 9 hours ago (1 children)

I definitely didn't quote this song in my highschool yearbook grad comment..

[–] Tehhund@lemmy.world 1 points 1 hour ago

Good! That would be really embarrassing if we both quoted Metallica songs in our HS yearbooks. Which we definitely did not.

"it's melodic death metal."

[–] bizzle@lemmy.world 6 points 11 hours ago

Dopesmoker by Sleep, listen to the whole thing it's a real jam

[–] pwalshj@lemmy.world 3 points 10 hours ago

"Postmortem" by Slayer.

[–] scytale@piefed.zip 4 points 11 hours ago

It’s so hard to pick a favorite, with so many great songs out there.

Meshuggah - Demiurge

Haken - Nil by Mouth

Mick Gordon - The Only Thing They Fear is You

Tesseract - King

Animals As Leaders - Tooth and Claw

Gojira - Silvera

[–] thelsim@sh.itjust.works 2 points 9 hours ago

I don’t have a favorite but Error Detection by Nemophila is an often played song in my list right now.

[–] fittedsyllabi@lemmy.world 15 points 15 hours ago (1 children)

Symphony of Destruction by Megadeth.

[–] middlemanSI@lemmy.world 12 points 14 hours ago (1 children)
[–] Deconceptualist@leminal.space 6 points 13 hours ago

Five Magics for me

[–] OrteilGenou@lemmy.world 13 points 15 hours ago* (last edited 15 hours ago)

One by Metallica, Ratamahatta by Sepultura, The Trooper by Iron Maiden are all up there

Special mention for Gimme Chocolate by Babymetal

[–] anon6789@lemmy.world 2 points 10 hours ago

I really like a lot of Megadeth's Hidden Treasures since they don't pop up randomly so much I've never gotten tired of them.

Angry Again, 99 Ways to Die, Breakpoint, Go to Hell, Diadems. All great stuff.

[–] leraje@piefed.blahaj.zone 12 points 15 hours ago* (last edited 15 hours ago)

Changes literally every day! At the moment I'm loving Witch Club Satan's new single You Wildflower.

Also (sorry for the spam), I co-present a metal radio show which plays music from explicitly antifascist and/or anti-bigotry artists called Contra Odium.

[–] Sterile_Technique@lemmy.world 4 points 12 hours ago

Wheel of Time by Blind Guardian. It's symphonic metal, which is a tiny subgenre that may not be your cup of tea, but I love it!

[–] nyctre@lemmy.world 8 points 14 hours ago* (last edited 14 hours ago)

All time? Probably Dream Theater's A change of seasons. But there's way too many to choose from.

Katatonia - Old heart Falls

Caligula's Horse - Marigold

Soen - Martyrs

Swallow the sun - Falling World

Haken - 1985

Mastodon - Blood and Thunder

Rotting Christ - Ze nigmar

Draconian - Daylight Misery

Paradise lost - faith divides us /death unites us

Leprous - Rewind

Eons Enthroned - Stormblessed (for fans of the stormlight archive)

Rhapsody (of fire)- emerald sword

Ihsahn - Mass darkness

Gojira - Flying whales

The ocean - jurassic

Opeth - fuck.. can't even pick one.. but let's say ghost of perdition

Dragony - Magic

And many, many, many more..
