the Cork Transport Workers' Union took possession of the Harbour Board's offices and assumed complete control of the local port, forming a workers' soviet until negotiations could be resolved.

The Cork Harbour Strike was a labor dispute that lasted from September 2nd to September 7th, 1921. It was the result of the refusal of the Cork Harbor Board to increase the wages of its workers to a minimum of 70s a week.

On September 6th, 1921, the Cork Transport Workers' Union took possession of the Harbour Board's offices and assumed complete control of the port.

According to the New York Times, "when the strikers took possession of the Harbour Board offices, they hoisted a red flag as a token of Soviet control and the strikers' leaders announced their intention of collecting dues from shipping agents and using them to pay members of the union."

The rebellion was short-lived, however, as negotiations between the Harbour Board and the strikers were reopened soon after, which came to a successful resolution. The revolt was not well-taken in the press.

The Irish Times wrote "To-day Irish Labour is permeated with a spirit of revolt against all the principles and conventions of ordered society. The country's lawless state in recent months is partly responsible for this sinister development, and the wild teachings of the Russian Revolution have fallen on willing ears."

Bike rode great with the re-built free wheel. Set a (admittedly modest) distance record of 12 miles today. Haven't done that since I was a skinny energetic teenager with no drivers license.

The green lantern can craft anything his imagination can come up with yet every single time I've seen him he goes with "big fist"

The taking a nap community really fucked up letting them name that crime "kidnapping", if they tried doing that to me they would be hearing from my lawyers so fast

Fact that a lot of people would hate: You could totally make a Back to the Future Remake in 2025, but the 30 years in the past would be in 1995. And the "Ronald Reagan, the actor?" joke would still work, but with the president in 2025.

They visit the Cafe 80s and it's all neoncore and lo fi

Marty is having trouble because his smartphone doesn't work in the past, has to learn to look stuff up in a phone book

uhhh I'm sure there's a ton of good bits you could do if you had a team of millennial comedy writers put the script together, but then the studio would get involved and remove everything interesting and make them redo it as an overly emotional sappy love letter to the franchise and it would suck.

lea-breakdown anxiety days. My car's wheel almost fell off about a month ago so I missed 3 weeks of work (I used PTO for some of it) plus ~1000 bucks to fix it. My meager 'single adult living with multiple roommates' savings got cut plumb in half.

I wouldn't feel so worried about it if it weren't for stonks-down and the fact that it's been dicey getting full hours already.

Anyway fun story: The car got fixed at the beginning of week 2 of me being off. But on friday when they write the schedule for next week harold-manic I got a text asking me if I was ready to come back. I noticed and replied a couple hours later only to get back "Oh well you didn't reply back! I wrote the schedule and you're not on it!" point-and-laugh-1point-and-laugh-2

Hi computer nerds! I am now going about buying parts to build my first PC. Can anyone recommend some good guides for how to actually build it? I don't really wanna watch Linus

Punch in the model of the case you want to use into a YT frontend. For example: 'Cooler Master NR200 build guide".

[–] Cowbee@hexbear.net 3 points 3 hours ago

If you're a first-timer, I actually reccomend those "PC build parts etc" videos where they give you parts, build it, then show how it runs! Really easy and fully contained.

how much health does this fucking beastfly have

[–] Keld@hexbear.net 5 points 5 hours ago

I should get "Big if true" print boxer shorts. It works either way.

I've only had okra a few times but tbh i think it's a unique flavor and I'm gonna try drying and grinding some okra to powder to use as seasoning. It's got kind of a toasted corn sort of taste to it and i think people are sleeping on it by thinking okra is gross when it's not

:::spoiler had an hour long conversation with my ex over the phone. She spilled everything out to me, we touched on things from a long time ago, from a little bit later, etc. Her fears, as i figured, and so on. She is set. I need to change, which is understandable, but the timelines were hard to promise. She wants me to be someone she can still look up to. I want to be someone she still looks up to. I think I am, I just had a bad year. There's still so much love in her voice. I had my chance to be thankful for everything. I told her everything i missed about her. She was careful not to make me think there's a chance to get back together.

I told her the thought of her dating again hurt, she told me I shouldn't worry about it. There is literally no one around here, except people i dont really want to see. People came out to show support, but it wasn't very deep and meaningful, which turns out was the same for her.

I didn't tell her what i was doing with my day. I'm going to the Mamdani Town Hall today. I've already gotten the ball rolling with my change, and it'll start by being where people are.

lathe-of-heaven after the inevitable collapse of the "AI" industry in 2027, the next new way Hollywood seeks to save on costs is by no longer making TV shows with multiple actors and just having one actor play every part with a bunch of wigs to only have to pay one actor. The future of movies is one long Bistro Huddy skit
