Welcome to c/news! Please read the Hexbear Code of Conduct and remember... we're all comrades here.

Rules:

-- PLEASE KEEP POST TITLES INFORMATIVE --

-- Overly editorialized titles, particularly if they link to opinion pieces, may get your post removed. --

-- All posts must include a link to their source. Screenshots are fine IF you include the link in the post body. --

-- If you are citing a twitter post as news please include not just the twitter.com in your links but also nitter.net (or another Nitter instance). There is also a Firefox extension that can redirect Twitter links to a Nitter instance: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/libredirect/ or archive them as you would any other reactionary source using e.g. https://archive.today/ . Twitter screenshots still need to be sourced or they will be removed --

-- Mass tagging comm moderators across multiple posts like a broken markov chain bot will result in a comm ban--

-- Repeated consecutive posting of reactionary sources, fake news, misleading / outdated news, false alarms over ghoul deaths, and/or shitposts will result in a comm ban.--

-- Neglecting to use content warnings or NSFW when dealing with disturbing content will be removed until in compliance. Users who are consecutively reported due to failing to use content warnings or NSFW tags when commenting on or posting disturbing content will result in the user being banned. --

-- Using April 1st as an excuse to post fake headlines, like the resurrection of Kissinger while he is still fortunately dead, will result in the poster being thrown in the gamer gulag and be sentenced to play and beat trashy mobile games like 'Raid: Shadow Legends' in order to be rehabilitated back into general society. --

What race? You don't even have the ability to race because you're sabotaging yourself at every opportunity like you're Dick Dastardly in Wacky Races. yamcha

The hearing before the committee chaired by Cruz, Commerce, Science, and Transportation, included the usual mishmash of parochial politics, lobbying for traditional space, back slapping, and fawning—at one point, Gold, a Star Trek fan, went so far as to assert that Cruz is the "Captain Kirk" of the US Senate.

Just like the first space race, the US imposed this supposed competition on themselves while their peer rival (the USSR and now China) never actually cared about racing anyone and just wanted to do space exploration for the benefit of Humanity.

And it can be argued the US didn't really "win" the first race either, because the Soviets achieved many more milestones in space exploration before the Americans, it's just that they got someone on the moon first and decided themselves that the race was 'won' and over.

Well they lost the fucking first one too so

“Wait, why are these people outworking me?”

Says retired man.

Analogy is that the US gave up on working, and as such has no right to complain that China is outpacing them.

Might as well retire and resent people still working. Just enjoy your retirement.

Ah, thanks. I just interpreted it as holding this guy responsible for the space program. I didn't look into this guy but given how they are gutting NASA & government funded science in general "retirement" might just be polite or reading the writing on the wall so I was confused. I imagine most people who were working in these fields are pretty bitter about the recent scrapping of their life's work.

Have you tried hiring people?

Have any of you people whining about “being competitive” ever consider ACTUALLY putting the millions of young Americans just raring to go to work?

Tell porky to stop sleeping on the job and hurry up with that job creation crap.

There's only one thing to do. Beat them in the putting the first man on mars contest that they're not even really in (just like the US "beat" the USSR by landing men on the moon). I suggest a one-way trip for Elon. The whole world will golf-clap at this monumental achievement. Oh we should also invest all our national resources in this, strip the defense establishment bare if need be for the materials and people and money to do this.

Cruz is a Pakled at best. And likely more of a Cousin Gaila.

[–] SexUnderSocialism@hexbear.net 10 points 2 weeks ago

At least Gaila was successful enough buy his own moon, whereas Cruz will be remembered for liking Twitter incest porn on 9/11. fall-in-line

No shit. Cheeto Nazi just signed an executive order making NASA primarily an intelligence agency. That will eliminate their ability to have international collaboration. Also, intel is not space exploration.

[–] into_highest_invite@lemmygrad.ml 13 points 2 weeks ago

there's a dang CHEETO in the white house

[–] duderium@hexbear.net 8 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Maybe if Biden/Harris hadn’t been so obsessed with slaughtering children in Gaza, the dang cheetoh would have lost the election?

[–] ScoffingLizard@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

It certainly did not help. Most Americans are against it. I keep hearing that Republicans are okay with aid to Israel, but even the big Trumpers I know are against it. Which begs the question, who tf is actually on board with aid to Israel right now, and why? I can see taking sides in a conflict, but this is insanity. Horrible and disgusting.

[–] Tomorrow_Farewell@hexbear.net 6 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Most Americans are against it.

Considering that USians are almost always for things like this (more than 70% were in favour of invading Iraq for the second time, for example), this claim seems dubious.
Do you have any source that supports the claim?

Every American I know makes fun of how stupud we all were to support the knee jerk reaction to invade Iraq over nonexistent WMDs. I was really young then. Barely an adult. I have no idea why more educated, older adults supported it other that they lied to everyone about the weapons.

So yes, even die hard MAGAs are pissed about the genocide. I know a Trumper that is turning on Trump over it. It is happening everywhere.

Every American I know makes fun of how stupud we all were to support the knee jerk reaction to invade Iraq over nonexistent WMDs.

That wasn't a knee-jerk reaction. That was a calculated move to further subjugate Iraq. Surely you don't think that your empire's leadership actually believed their own lies, do you?

I have no idea why more educated, older adults supported it other that they lied to everyone about the weapons.

Because robbing the rest of the world is how your lifestyles have been fueled so far, coupled with indoctrination into racism. That is also why so many of you complain about Hamas, by the way.

So yes, even die hard MAGAs are pissed about the genocide. I know a Trumper that is turning on Trump over it. It is happening everywhere.

That's actually more than can be said about die-hard dems, it seems: not-listening

I agree with all that.
