In the US education system, they spend about 15-20minutes total talking about communism. It’s usually just a means to demonize it and talk about how amazing capitalism was in order to defeat the system evil reds.

Some libs are so lost in the Overton window sauce that they think anyone criticizing the amerikkkan Democratic party is necessarily right wing
Republicans: "What if we did hyper-capitalism and accelerated the end of humanity for the sake of profit as fast as possible?!"
Democrats: "What if we just did mostly capitalism, with a few tiny regulations, and accelerated the end of humanity for the sake of profit but we did it slower?!"

Someone is trying to tell me Hexbear and Lemmygrad are far-right, because we support the PRC and critically support Russia. Same person also thinks we are Zionists, somehow, despite being the loudest and proudest advocates for Palestinian liberation on the fediverse. Deeply unserious people wandering into Lemmy.ml struggle threads.

Rhetorically, liberalism is positioned between socialism and fascism on a continuous spectrum, but in reality these are all completely distinct ideologies with some areas of overlapping features.
Extremism is mostly a rough measure of how likely you will concede ideological ground in favor of pragmatic considerations.
Liberals are extremists with regards to "rule of law" as they will never support circumventing this to overthrow the ruling class, knowing full well that their system is incapable of enforcing rule of law on the ruling class or guaranteeing civil rights against the interests of the ruling class.
It would make the libs so mad because “the extremes on both sides are the real problem”.
They would hate to be labeled as anything other than “average voter”.
