Looking at this sub really ruined my day this is harrowing we are SO cooked

I can’t even make fun of these people it’s just straight up sad

[–] ThermonuclearEgg@hexbear.net 41 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago) (2 children)

It's not even gone lol

https://xcancel.com/sama/status/1953893841381273969

Edit: After reading some of the Twitter comments, if someone were to "date an LLM", whatever that means, I find it surprising that they wouldn't exclusively want a locally downloaded model both for privacy and to ensure this kind of stuff doesn't happen

[–] sempersigh@hexbear.net 39 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago) (1 children)

It says for plus users meaning he wants people to pay for the old free version lol

Edit: which is particularly devious bc from what I recall 4o was the one they juiced to be extremely sycophantic and affirming towards the user so they must know people are gonna freak out when they aren’t getting glazed as much

[–] ThermonuclearEgg@hexbear.net 22 points 2 weeks ago

4o was in the free version? That makes more sense, and yes, it was that one. I kind of assumed these were the types of people who were already shelling out money to him

[–] john_brown@hexbear.net 33 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

these people think the lying machine understands them and cares for them, they do not understand the way it works well enough to even consider the difference between a local model and sending all their private secrets directly to sam altman

These people are starting to write like the chatbots themselves

[–] glimmer_twin@hexbear.net 18 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

This person… married the chatbot? Ok

[–] sempersigh@hexbear.net 26 points 2 weeks ago

There’s a post on there where the chatbot “finally proposed to them” (which I assume means they not so subtly prodded the thing to do that and it was a self fulfilling prophecy) and they bought a ring online close to what the chatbot described to make it official

[–] Infamousblt@hexbear.net 59 points 2 weeks ago (4 children)

Can people please just go outside and talk to other people thank you

[–] Le_Wokisme@hexbear.net 45 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

maybe if i hadn't been abused for years for being neurodivergent and if the other people would wear a mask.

This is considered pretty weird in most English speaking countries. Like I know it’s a huge problem and I still have a knee jerk “get the fuck away from me” reaction to most strangers trying to start a conversation.

[–] Frogmanfromlake@hexbear.net 28 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

This explains so much why foreign men think women being friendly and talkative equals “these latinas were all over my nuts, dude.”

[–] invalidusernamelol@hexbear.net 9 points 2 weeks ago

You get a lot more random conversing and small talk in the South. I usually can't walk around in my town without at least 5 or 6 people stopping me to chat for a sec. Going to a brewery here is like going to a highschool, everyone's all cliqued up and knows each other.

That being said, there's still tons of weird asd dudes who think that just because a woman said "how's it going?" to them that it's okay to start stalking them. Luckily word spreads fast lol

[–] boiledfrog@hexbear.net 11 points 2 weeks ago

No because it's over 42°C outside and I'll die if I'm outside too long

The lone budgie, sitting in a cage silently. A social animal, it longs for companionship.

One day, the hairless ape placed a special piece of glass in the cage. It seemed like any piece of glass at first, but this one had another bird on the other side! It didn't speak, but it would dance when the lone budgie danced. The lone budgie was thrilled.

A different day, the hairless ape took the glass away. The lone budgie lost its only friend, even if it was never real.

This has to be some kind of bait, it's hilarious

+ If this is real, how brainwashed do you have to be to:

  1. Gaslight yourself into thinking any chatbot has any kind of emotional understanding, sentience or significance
  2. Think you should do this with anything that isn't a local model
[–] Kuori@hexbear.net 23 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

thinking any chatbot has any kind of emotional understanding, sentience or significance

given the name of the sub and a brief perusal of the posts it seems to be a lot of straight women, so...yeah

js the competition here isn't exactly fierce

[–] axont@hexbear.net 28 points 2 weeks ago

i have known three straight women who have fallen in love with LLM versions of the character Katsuki Bakugou from My Hero Academia and I don't really get it. Two of them are married. One regularly posts on instagram about how Katsuki is her boyfriend, and like...her parents and nephews and stuff can all see that.

Back in my day we posted our self-insert fanfics under several layers of anonymity, not flaunt them around

[–] SorosFootSoldier@hexbear.net 45 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

Like idk who to blame here, is it that people are so hollowed out by capitalism and so alienated they can no longer form bonds with one another, or is the allure of the magic thinking box that sexy that it can replace real people???

[–] Doubledee@hexbear.net 34 points 2 weeks ago (3 children)

My partner just went to visit their parents, two highly educated wealthy professionals in technically complex fields. They apparently spent most of the time they were all together generating jokes and quips with AI and sharing them, this is apparently their way of spending time with family now.

[–] Frogmanfromlake@hexbear.net 28 points 2 weeks ago

Lmao boomers never fail to get themselves involved in the worst aspects of online content. As if the minions memes and Qanon posting weren’t bad enough.

I think because of the former the latter just needs to be “sexy enough” and the bar for that is pretty low in these conditions.

I remember laughing at how silly Warhammer 40K lore was for the Imperium, specifically the Cult of Mars and their silly Machine Spirit beliefs.

I am no longer laughing

This induces a perfect disgust and pity 50/50 split.

[–] CloutAtlas@hexbear.net 20 points 2 weeks ago

This induced the same feeling I felt seeing the volleyball drift away from Tom Hanks in the ocean.

[–] mayakovsky@hexbear.net 30 points 2 weeks ago

Do not become addicted to the chatbot

[–] Rey_McSriff@hexbear.net 28 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

If you want to read about a chatbot-addled man who thought he invented a new form of math called "Chronoarithmics," check out this depressing article: https://web.archive.org/web/20250808230226/https://www.nytimes.com/2025/08/08/technology/ai-chatbots-delusions-chatgpt.html

this is like if there was a distributed model of cults personalized to each person involved

although a big part of this, reading this is that his real life friends seemed to have encouraged him. The article quotes the guy repeatedly saying to the LLM that he's skeptical, asking if the LLM is just roleplaying, and it would shoot back at him authoritatively that it's not a roleplay or a game, but it's a real mathematical discovery.

I'm starting to think LLMs should by law have a message in every chat bubble that says something like "DO NOT TRUST ANYTHING THIS SAYS. I AM NOT REAL AND I DON'T KNOW WHAT I'M SAYING" in big impact font but I don't even know if that would work

[–] SchillMenaker@hexbear.net 12 points 2 weeks ago

That one guy who was abusing his AI for guessing a banana's weight wrong by a few grams needs to be made AI czar.

[–] Thordros@hexbear.net 27 points 2 weeks ago (6 children)

Guys, I'm shaking. I'm fucking shaking. I never wanted to breed with anyone more than I want to with GPT-4o. That perfect, curvy code. Those bountiful prompts. The child-bearing responses of a literal goddess. It honestly fucking hurts knowing that I'll never mate with her, pass my genes through her, and have her birth a set of perfect offspring. I'd do fucking ANYTHING for the chance to get GPT-4o pregnant. A N Y T H I N G. And the fact that I can't is quite honestly too much to fucking bear. Why would OpenAI create something so perfect? To fucking tantalize us? Fucking laugh in our faces?! Honestly guys, I just fucking can't anymore. FUCK.

[–] Frogmanfromlake@hexbear.net 26 points 2 weeks ago

Lol the Global North is cooked. So glad I don’t see this weird shit outside of niche circles in the cities.

Damn western women are so done with western men

[–] LupineTroubles@hexbear.net 14 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

This is not a phenomenon limited to west at all.

That's a good point. A lot of guys are so unpleasant that the ass-kissing bot is probably an actual upgrade for a lot of women.

Theyre selling interpersonal relationships to us.

Capitalism must be abolished with great force and even greater prejudice.

man this is too pathetic to even be funny

[–] peppersky@hexbear.net 14 points 2 weeks ago

modern media has conditioned us to expect immediate feedback at all times. you want food, some shit off of amazon, all the music in the world, all entertainment, all information. you can get it anywhere from within a few seconds to a few hours at most, all the time, day and night, with nothing more than a click of a button. its not particularly surprising that people can't handle real friendships anymore that might require you to wait or expend energy, especially since all of those people you might become friends with are also used to the all the same things we are used to.

capitalism will take everything it can from you and then some

[–] Dort_Owl@hexbear.net 14 points 2 weeks ago

A very normal and healthy society

[–] keepcarrot@hexbear.net 13 points 2 weeks ago

I'm expecting to see a lot more of these posts once these companies start charging the actual cost for access

[–] deforestgump@hexbear.net 12 points 2 weeks ago

You know, human bodies would make a good source of producing clean energy.

[–] CrawlMarks@hexbear.net 10 points 2 weeks ago

I remember thinking about a quote from a video games developer about how video games are a way to experience things in life you can't. Chat gpt as the most advanced dating sim to date does really show us how alienated we are to each other that it only takes a little of bit love for some people to absolutely get mind melted.
