Do others also feel that uneven numbers are nicer and smoother than even numbers which feel edgy and hard? Even more so prime numbers.

Uneven numbers feel more alive and even numbers feel more settled.

5 is like an honorary even number.

[–] snapoff@sh.itjust.works 1 points 1 day ago

5 is so crisp

[–] Patrik@lemm.ee 7 points 1 day ago (1 children)

No! Even numbers are nice and smooth, powers of two being silky smooth. Odd numbers are awfully jagged, but have their uses. Primes are like 80 grit sandpaper. Rough, but very useful.

Yes. Thank you for speaking the only truth in this thread.

The number 1024 is my favourite, it feels like a smooth slippery ice skating rink, with lots of room for activities.

12 is another good number, it feels like a sharp 12 pointed knife, very good at slicing things up evenly.

Sounds like you have some aspect of synaesthesia, but there's no way to be completely sure about that. Numbers usually come with attached context, which may even be specific to the individual, and can affect how people feel about them whether they have crossed senses or not.

As for me, uh. I like numbers, but I think if I had any feelings about specific ones, practical concerns have long since overridden any of that, so my feelings can't have been that strong in the first place.

Practical concerns like a preferred number being too quiet or too loud on a volume setting, for example, which people often cite as having to be on certain values with certain properties. Likewise, temperature settings, where that's even possible to control in the first place.

So, prime number are the smoothest?

What about 1?

[–] moonlight@fedia.io 8 points 2 days ago

To me, even numbers are bouba, and odd numbers, especially primes, are kiki.

I'm from the 80s so I get that

[–] moxlas@discuss.online 1 points 1 day ago

I feel the other way around, even numbers are nice and even, odd numbers are just odd and jaggy. Maybe except 5, like someone mentioned before it is a honourary even numbers almost.

[–] callyral@pawb.social 1 points 1 day ago

idk i like the numbers 6 and 36 (i do not like 216).

[–] deegeese@sopuli.xyz 8 points 2 days ago (2 children)

You have it backwards.

7 is jagged, 2 is a circle, 24 is almost a perfect sphere.

[–] toofpic@lemmy.world 4 points 2 days ago (1 children)
[–] owenfromcanada@lemmy.world 3 points 2 days ago (2 children)

What? 17 is a triangle. 33 is nice and round.

[–] toofpic@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago

It's not about the literal shape of digits, it's about the feeeeeling!

[–] ouRKaoS@lemmy.today 2 points 2 days ago

Huh? 33 is all bumpy. 69 is Nice. Also round.

[–] moonlight@fedia.io 2 points 2 days ago

I'd say 7 is pointy, but not really jagged. 2 is rounded and pebble like, but I'm not sure if I'd call it a circle, more pill shaped.

[–] OmegaLemmy@discuss.online 1 points 1 day ago

Odd numbers stand in middle of an entire set, so its uniform

Best even numbers are like 10, 20, 50, 100

If you mean digits, yeah... Maybe 2 is decent.

I dunno about using the descriptors of "smooth" vs "hard", but I definitely find some numbers more pleasing than others. I have no idea why. I guess for me it's more about the flow of them, how they're ordered, how they LOOK. It has nothing to do with primes, odds, even, etc. Like, I just see some numbers and think "I don't like that one" but then others I'm cool with. 5112 is nice, 7654 I don't like, for example.

[–] funbreaker@kbin.earth 7 points 2 days ago

synesthesia?

[–] Stovetop@lemmy.world 4 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Even numbers are the purest numbers. Perfectly balanced. Most odd numbers are flawed but can be made perfect together.

Primes, though. Primes can fuck right off no matter what.

[–] snapoff@sh.itjust.works 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

What about 2 which is both even and prime?

[–] Stovetop@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago

2 is a maverick.

[–] sem@lemmy.blahaj.zone 4 points 2 days ago

I like 303, very friendly like a shamrock.

But not 707, too sharp.

404 is weird.

27 is one of my favorites.

I have always liked 8, but mostly because 2^3^

3443 is another great one.

How do you feel about 5040

[–] toofpic@lemmy.world 3 points 2 days ago (1 children)
[–] moonlight@fedia.io 1 points 2 days ago

5x4 rectangle, subdivided

[–] sntx@lemm.ee 3 points 2 days ago (1 children)

How about 65535 (2^16-1) ?

[–] flubba86@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago

This number always feels like a completely full glass, one drop would overflow it.

[–] JackFrostNCola@lemmy.world 3 points 2 days ago

12321 feels like a gentle hill to me

[–] droning_in_my_ears@lemmy.world 3 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

You're an odd duck.

[–] Drusas@fedia.io 1 points 2 days ago

I've always liked the number nine because it feels round. Not the shape, mind you. The concept of nine.

[–] NoneOfUrBusiness@fedia.io 1 points 2 days ago

I can kinda see it.
