More than "mildly infuriating", this is deeply depressing.

(And seeing TikTok two times there don't make things better...)

How good is adguard VPN? Got a good deal on 5 years of it.

I wish USA was as free as Venezuela to allow TikTok. It sucks living under a fascist terror empire.

"as free as Venezuela"

My brother in Christ, I have news for you.

Its a shame so many people are trying to go for Proton since they expressed support for a Trump pick

[–] teije9@lemmy.blahaj.zone 1 points 29 minutes ago

because of their incredible no logs policy. Its the best vpn according to piracy communities.

[–] poke@sh.itjust.works 1 points 1 hour ago

While I am deeply disappointed by the message, their actions in the industry have still been generally positive over the years and their services remain one of the only reasonable alternatives to google, apple, and microsoft's cloud services. Outside of the VPN, Their UX still needs work before I can say its ready for the average person - but It's still good enough for most people here who have some base level of technological literacy.

Though I am now looking for and hoping for an alternative to crop up somewhere.

I for one, while being as anti-trump as it gets, do not judge a company and their service based on the political view of an individual that works there. Yes there are some principle decisions that one can make but the software itself is good and the service they offer.

[–] StarlightDust@lemmy.blahaj.zone 3 points 3 hours ago (3 children)

Nope. They shared this from the company account on Bluesky and Mastodon.

[–] CanadaPlus@lemmy.sdf.org 1 points 15 minutes ago

What's a good non-EU alternative, if it gets to that point?

[–] geneva_convenience@lemmy.ml 1 points 2 hours ago (1 children)

They make some pretty good arguments there.

[–] CanadaPlus@lemmy.sdf.org 1 points 15 minutes ago

Yeah, it wasn't as bad as I was expecting, although still alarming.

Proton VPN is one of the few great ones, along with Mullvad and Windscribe

[–] StarlightDust@lemmy.blahaj.zone 4 points 14 hours ago (1 children)

They just came out in support of the Republicans today, sadly.

[–] Kekzkrieger@feddit.org 5 points 3 hours ago (1 children)

They as Proton did not.

Their current CEO did.

Massive difference, this may be their personal opinion but surely it does not speak for the whole company.

[–] StarlightDust@lemmy.blahaj.zone 4 points 3 hours ago (1 children)

They shared this from the company account.

[–] Kekzkrieger@feddit.org 0 points 55 minutes ago

I did not realoze that, cancelling this shit now.

[–] Irelephant@lemm.ee 17 points 1 day ago (16 children)

at least its proton vpn instead of the scammy ones.

[–] ayyy@sh.itjust.works 10 points 23 hours ago (5 children)

Apparently the CEO of proton is a big trumper now :(

[–] italics2@lemmy.world 10 points 19 hours ago (3 children)

You read one title and one tweet and assume a guys whole identity. WTF. Also Proton is owned by it's employees and a non-profit. https://proton.me/about/team There are many other people there. Also the tweet was a picture. Also if it is real it's not that bad to compliment a president on choosing a guy that actually is listening about what you have to say against big tech.

[–] boonhet@lemm.ee 2 points 5 hours ago (1 children)

Also if it is real it’s not that bad to compliment a president on choosing a guy that actually is listening about what you have to say against big tech.

I'm hoping Yen just fucked up and posted without thinking it through, but seriously, I can't in any way take anyone seriously who says Trump is sticking it to big tech and fighting for the little guy when we literally know the going rate for a big tech bribe to Trump. It's a million dollars from the CEO personally, donated to the inauguration fund. Zuck, Cook and others have each done it, and gained audiences with Trump.

[–] italics2@lemmy.world 3 points 4 hours ago (1 children)

I am not an American and maybe do not understand how the political system operates. However I did not write that Trump is sticking it to the big guys. You are making something up there. If Trump chose a minister is not the minister responsible for listening to the industry? Yen's and Proton's position (taking this from the now removed Mastodon post) was/is that the Democrats chose Kamala instead of Bernie and Kamala's team did not listen. Trumps apointee did listen. If it were Bernie's team I am sure Proton would complement Bernie for choosing someone who listens. I just do not think this is a big deal.

[–] boonhet@lemm.ee 0 points 3 hours ago (1 children)

That was referring to Yen's statement actually, not what you said.

[–] italics2@lemmy.world 1 points 2 hours ago (1 children)

Then why did you quote me 😵‍💫

[–] frayedpickles@lemmy.cafe 0 points 1 hour ago* (last edited 1 hour ago) (1 children)

Your ability to interact with people on a text forum is very questionable.

He quoted you to disagree with you on your overall point, then went to specifics.

[–] italics2@lemmy.world 2 points 1 hour ago
[–] underwire212@lemm.ee 2 points 13 hours ago (1 children)

Yeah, I’m not a “Trumper,” but the amount of preemptive conclusions and quick judgments people make, especially those who claim to be tolerant and empathetic, is quite hypocritical.

I don’t deny that I sometimes jump to conclusions too, but I’m amazed at how people don’t even bother to research for even a few seconds! They see a picture, realize it’s not a person destroying something Trump tweeted, notice other comments that jump to conclusions, and that’s all it takes for them to make their own conclusions.

If those in charge’s goal is to divide us and stifle critical thinking, they’ve been remarkably successful. It’s a shame because humans could achieve so many incredible things if we weren’t constantly divided and consumed by hatred.

[–] frayedpickles@lemmy.cafe 1 points 1 hour ago* (last edited 1 hour ago)

The tweet said "this guy who is fucking Elon musk for money now is the only one supporting the little guys". It doesn't take a lot to think through this, it doesn't take empathy. We are fighting an irrational cult of personality bent on destroying the united States as we know it, and for the worse. Supporting Trump at all is not an option.

[–] ayyy@sh.itjust.works 6 points 19 hours ago (1 children)

Yes, I did assume that he’s extremely stupid if he thinks anything good could ever come from Trump. It’s not like he’s some mysterious unknown quantity at this point, we’ve been through this before. Also what happened to italics1?
