New battery tech finally leaves the lab: Samsung’s 20-year-life EV battery runs 600 miles on 9-minute charge
(interestingengineering.com)
Some interesting details:
”Samsung’s oxide solid-state battery technology boasts an energy density of 500 Wh/kg, nearly double the 270 Wh/kg density of mainstream EV batteries.”
The article doesn’t say what kind of battery chemistry they are using, but at least the gravimetric energy density is impressive.
That's great to hear. Gravimetric energy density is the most important factor for EVs, I'm glad it sounds like it's an improvement.
At the moment, these batteries will be available in some really expensive applications, but I guess eventually they will become available in more common products as well. Hopefully, one day solid state batteries will be about as common as current NMC batteries are.
