This kind of rhetoric (most of it; Hamas is a resistance organization and much of what they've been accused of has been proven false and Israel is refusing to allow any further independent investigations) is exactly what we've all been saying, and it's Marjorie Taylor Greene saying it?

Have I woken up in an alternate universe? Is the Mandela effect happening?

Literally that first part most especially: trying to explain to people by asking themselves to try putting themselves in the shoes of people from Gaza; it's a sentiment I barely see from pro-Palestinian democrats, but now MTG is saying it? Asking people to think about what it's like if they were going through this?

Also I want to mention, cause it bears mentioning, MTG actually spoke out AGAINST refusing Gazan children to go to America to receive aid.

Seriously, have I woken up in an alternate universe?

MTG doesn't care about Palestinians, she's grifting because she's a white nationalist who hates Jews (she fails to distinguish between Jews and Zionists). Candace Owens claims to support Palestinians, too, and for the same reason.

Also, what she really wants isn’t an end to the imperial death machine, she wants it redirected towards Iran and/or China.

The enemy of my enemy is my friend?

[–] Nakoichi@hexbear.net 40 points 1 week ago (2 children)

88 in username is fuckin sus in this context.

[–] Damarcusart@hexbear.net 10 points 1 week ago (2 children)

Is there a context where it isn't? Only people who use it are people who are nazis or people claiming to use it "ironically" (i.e. nazis too cowardly to admit they are nazis)

[–] scathliath@lemmy.dbzer0.com 16 points 1 week ago (1 children)

(also ill informed new-netters born in 1988; but they'll usually rename their account or get pissed for being sussed)

[–] cannon_annon88@lemmy.today 1 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Yeah I'm not renaming my account. I like the number 88 and I'm keeping it. I am not a Nazi, and happy to clear up any misunderstanding.

[–] Nakoichi@hexbear.net 6 points 1 week ago (1 children)

In that case consider the fact that you will be assumed to be a Nazi until proven otherwise. And no I will not take you at your word.

I'm not changing. They can change. This is my name; it is a poorly made reference to the show Home Movies which nobody will get but me, and I like the number 88. I just found out about this dog whistle shit like last week and it pissed me off. I thought about changing my name after, but then I said no, fuck that. I'm not changing. They don't get to bastardize the number 88 which is a fun, positive number. It's like infinity repeating. I love it. They can suck my fat hairy balls.

[–] Nakoichi@hexbear.net 4 points 1 week ago

Fair enough. Home Movies was a great show so I will give you the benefit of the doubt on that. Just know it's always gonna make people raise an eyebrow especially as like I said it also looks like 4chan naming convention. Just a very unfortunate look overall.

Literally everyone on the internet will assume you are a nazi. That should quickly annoy you enough to sacrifice a username but maybe it'll take more than a week. If you are participating in discussions about politics of any sort and zionism in particular, you should be aware that many if not most people will be assuming you are a nazi and responding with that in mind. You will get ignored/negative attention from nice people and friendly attention from fascists.

In Mandarin the number eight sounds like 发 which means 'produce' (kinda) in the 'facai' of 'get wealthy' and is often seen as an auspicious, so 88 (fafa) in those contexts is possibly innocuous (though I have seen edge/cryptofash memes that use this ambiguity to spread the HH interpretation)

[–] cannon_annon88@lemmy.today 1 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Lol, it must be exhausting.

My username has nothing to do with Nazis, they don't have a monopoly on the number 88. I was curious why she would say something like this is all. I'm not infecting Lemmy with Nazi propaganda, don't worry.

[–] Nakoichi@hexbear.net 6 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Your name also looks a lot like 4chan format so forgive me for not giving you the benefit of the doubt.

[–] Kuori@hexbear.net 35 points 1 week ago

the enemy of my enemy is my enemy's enemy, nothing else. turn your back on someone like this and it'll still have a knife in it before you can blink.

There are cases where that applies and the left has allies of circumstance. MTG is not one of those cases.

Pulling out the Dril tweet once again: https://xcancel.com/dril/status/831805955402776576#m

You DO NOT, UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES, "gotta hand it to them"

[–] BodyBySisyphus@hexbear.net 17 points 1 week ago

bugs-no The enemy of my enemy is amiably walking me to the edge of a cliff so they can shove me off.

[–] Hestia@hexbear.net 15 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Sure, you and MTG are invited to our next meeting. We’re hosting it in here: barbara-pit

[–] cannon_annon88@lemmy.today 1 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I can't really tell what that is. The barbara pit? You want to have me executed? Am I reading this right?

[–] Hestia@hexbear.net 7 points 1 week ago (1 children)

apologies. The comment and your name made me jump the gun. Coming into a communist forum with 88 in your name is just going to lead to people thinking you’re a nazi, myself included

[–] cannon_annon88@lemmy.today 1 points 1 week ago (1 children)

You know what, I have been learning a lot since I joined Lemmy. I didn't even know this was a communist space, it just pops up in my feed a lot. I didn't mean to agitate anyone, just here trying to learn. I don't blame you, I guess my original comment was a bit of a dumb question.

I just found out 88 is a Nazi symbol last week, and I saw someone else say people usually change their names when they find out. But I don't want to do that. Maybe it's misguided, but I feel like if I change my name then that gives them more power over the number. I've had to defend this name a few times now so I guess I'm becoming attached, ha. I won't let them have it.

[–] Hestia@hexbear.net 2 points 1 week ago

I’ll assume you’re operating in good faith for now, and will give you some advice. Under your current username you will find that a lot of people’s initial response to you will be one of animosity, as 88 is a quite well established dog whistle.

You may also find the wrong people trying to befriend you under the assumption that you’re “one of them” eventually leading to a feeling of betrayal when you realize that the person you’ve been chatting with is actually a really shitty human being.

For a more enjoyable online experience my recommendation would be to establish yourself under a different name to avoid drawing the wrong kind of attention.

[–] D61@hexbear.net 10 points 1 week ago

No, no they are not.
