This kind of rhetoric (most of it; Hamas is a resistance organization and much of what they've been accused of has been proven false and Israel is refusing to allow any further independent investigations) is exactly what we've all been saying, and it's Marjorie Taylor Greene saying it?

Have I woken up in an alternate universe? Is the Mandela effect happening?

Literally that first part most especially: trying to explain to people by asking themselves to try putting themselves in the shoes of people from Gaza; it's a sentiment I barely see from pro-Palestinian democrats, but now MTG is saying it? Asking people to think about what it's like if they were going through this?

Also I want to mention, cause it bears mentioning, MTG actually spoke out AGAINST refusing Gazan children to go to America to receive aid.

Seriously, have I woken up in an alternate universe?

apologies. The comment and your name made me jump the gun. Coming into a communist forum with 88 in your name is just going to lead to people thinking you’re a nazi, myself included

You know what, I have been learning a lot since I joined Lemmy. I didn't even know this was a communist space, it just pops up in my feed a lot. I didn't mean to agitate anyone, just here trying to learn. I don't blame you, I guess my original comment was a bit of a dumb question.

I just found out 88 is a Nazi symbol last week, and I saw someone else say people usually change their names when they find out. But I don't want to do that. Maybe it's misguided, but I feel like if I change my name then that gives them more power over the number. I've had to defend this name a few times now so I guess I'm becoming attached, ha. I won't let them have it.

I’ll assume you’re operating in good faith for now, and will give you some advice. Under your current username you will find that a lot of people’s initial response to you will be one of animosity, as 88 is a quite well established dog whistle.

You may also find the wrong people trying to befriend you under the assumption that you’re “one of them” eventually leading to a feeling of betrayal when you realize that the person you’ve been chatting with is actually a really shitty human being.

For a more enjoyable online experience my recommendation would be to establish yourself under a different name to avoid drawing the wrong kind of attention.
