I have a five month old, so naturally I have limited time per week to play, maybe a couple hours in 20-30 minute stints 3 days a week tops. I love tasky games with a lot of building, self driven free form projects, and incremental improvement. Fantasy/ sci-fi settings are a big plus, as is open world

•Previously Enjoyed Games: NMS, Subnautica, Stardew Valley, Minecraft, Hardspace: Shipbreaker, Rune Factory

•Preferred Genres: Job sim, economy/business sims, sims in general

•Budget: none in particular, preferably on sale

•Other Notes: single player only

Any titles that play well on the deck that fit this description?

I recently purchased a dock and am learning the keyboard and mouse life might not be for me. What is the hands-down best controller for the Steam Deck?

I thought about getting a PS5 controller, but those go for about $80 on Amazon, which is a bit out of my budget.

I bought this steam deck so I can play games anywhere anytime but all these publishers just made all the old games I used to enjoy and ruined it with their constant updates and constant needing to connect to the internet. I paid for the game. Let me fucking just play it!

I button mapped some things for Silksong and it’s made the game much more enjoyable for me.

Mainly I mapped the downward attack to R4, as well as the up/ R1 attack to R5. It just feels and plays smoother.

Does anyone else have any good binds?

Edit 1: Removed the cheating comment. It sort of stemmed an unintentional side tangent lol

Edit 2: If you are wanting to map a move that requires two buttons, add the second button as an Extra Command, not a Sub.

Also, since you can move with the D-Pad, map the button to DOWN on the D-Pad, not the joystick.

Settled into the barracks (which has no wifi) during a training exercise, looking forward to relax gaming for a bit.

Tried to launch The Division, wouldn't launch. Ah well, It's a live service game, I guess that makes sense.

Tried to launch Mad Max, single player only game, refuses to launch without Internet.

Helldiver's 2? Nope.

Far Cry 3? Complains the entire time.

Warhammer 2: Space Marine? Nope.

Diablo 3? Nope.

I could go on. It's maddening.

I used to get all my games from repacks and torrents. Been rocking my Deck for 3 years now, but a couple months ago I tried the Lossless Scaling Decky plugin and grabbed a few games on sale just to test it.

That’s when it clicked. Buying on Steam is just so much easier. One click and you’re playing. No installers, no Lutris, no tweaking. Plus achievements are surprisingly fun, and cloud saves between my devices, out of the box, are amazing.

Since then, I’ve been buying all my games on Steam. And that’s why I think Valve really nailed it with the Deck. They didn’t just sell me a handheld, they made the legit experience so good it completely changed how I play.

Due to the high volume of very similar posts asking what r/SteamDeck users were playing, this weekly megathread has been created to have a singular place to hold this very frequent discussion and limit duplicate posts. Feel free to share what you have been playing on your Steam Deck or even post pictures in this thread and show us if you wish!

I have been bouncing around way too many games for a while. And yes, you can have tons of fun by doing that, but I was getting so distracted by not finishing anything. And then coming back to those games having no clue where I left off and having to restart over again. I can happily say now that I just finished cyberpunk last week. Sunk about 115 hours into that game. Completed all side quests and gigs. The main story and theme in that game was incredible. Took a few day break playing dead zone. Kind of give the brain rest for a minute. And now this weekend, I’ve started playing Hogwarts legacy, and I am loving every minute of it.

I’ve got it already planned out for once I complete Hogwarts legacy. I’ll either jump into and play through shadows of Mordor, or through the entire watch dogs trilogy. Being able to pick up games on the steam deck and play for 30 minutes to go complete a Quest, pause the game, put the steam deck into sleep mode and come back the next day might be my most favorite feature of this little machine.

Xmas is in a bit, and originally, I was thinking of a 5 grand pc, but, all I would really do on it is play steam games, mainly tf2. But, I move between my mother’s and father’s, and as it would be too big to transport, it’s stay one place. I don’t mind that. But, steam deck. I think it’s just better for me, from what I’ve read. So, I’ve got some questions:

  1. Can I download games on my steam deck, and not need a pc. The only thing I’ve got that’s like a pc is a slow laptop. It’s really a work one.
  2. Can I customise my account, trade, use market and everything you could on the pc? I think that’s it for now, but I’ll add stuff on if needed. Thanks! (Btw, I’m thinking of the OLED 1TB one, as I’m getting it free, lol.) So, saw the two comments, thanks, and just wanted to add things lol. A pc was what I was gonna go for, but if the deck is like a pc, I’m going deck. A pc is wayyyy too complicated for me tbh, and you can download games on steam deck, no pc needed, so I don’t need that slow ancients laptop lol. Thanks!
