Dear Microsoft -

You are the centerpiece of my career and your products generally work well--much better than they're given credit for. But could you please, PLEASE, stop the flow of methamphetamines to your marketing department, and keep the same branding for your products for longer than it takes bananas to spoil. It's getting absurd, and it's exhausting to try to keep up with the changes.

Sincerely, a beleaguered sysadmin

About half of the news sources on Microsoft Start are high-quality e.g. Reuters, AP, Forbes, local, etc. but the other half is from no-name sites often pushing conservative rage-bait. I simply can't block them all. Does anyone else have this issue? Do we think crap sites are paying to be featured?

  • Microsoft is poised to overtake Apple as the most valuable company, with the smallest gap between their market capitalizations in over two years.
  • Microsoft's stock has been rising while Apple's has been falling due to expectations of slowing iPhone demand.
  • Microsoft is now valued at $2.73 trillion, just $100 billion less than Apple's $2.83 trillion.
  • Analysts attribute Microsoft's success to its less dependence on hardware and more focus on subscription software like Office 365.
  • Microsoft has also launched an AI tool called Copilot, while Apple has not unveiled a similar service.

For all those concerned about multiple, malicious login attempts on their Microsoft account, do this:

Create an alias for login purposes only. Designate this alias as the primary alias at:

then disable sign-in capability for the other aliases here:

You can still send and receive email from the old address. Keep the new alias secret. Do not use the new alias for anything except login.

When someone tries to login to your account, they will receive a message that the username does not exist. They can't hack your account if they don't know your username.

Edited to add: As some have pointed out, be careful to not REMOVE your email address at the first screen. There you only want to create the new alias (click on add email) then make the new alias Primary (click on Make primary, NOT Remove).

As far as I'm concerned the rollout of copilot is one of the most poorly executed user experience and branding examples I've ever seen. I work with Oracle products so I have a high tolerance for mediocrity but this is absolutely beyond.

There's copilot, and copilot for windows, and copilot in edge with a blue icon, some sources say copilot is bing chat rebranded but in edge it states 'copilot WITH bing chat', there's bing chat enterprise which doesn't mention copilot, there's another copilot with a rainbow icon, and microsoft 365 copilot and they all apparently have different functionality? On my prelogin screen today it stated I could now use copilot to generate images using dall-e but where is this supposed functionality? Oh, is it perhaps Microsoft DESIGNER which doesn't mention copilot or bing chat at all?

Does MS seriously not have product managers? Just different tech teams who are all naming their different projects copilot with no strategy or oversight?

  • Microsoft is predicted to overtake Apple as the largest company in terms of market capitalization in 2024.
  • Apple's success was built on the vision of Steve Jobs and innovative products, while Microsoft's success is based on its focus on innovation and artificial intelligence.
  • Under the leadership of Tim Cook, Apple has not released any groundbreaking new products, while Microsoft, under Satya Nadella, has embraced the future of AI.
  • Microsoft's trajectory has been the opposite of Apple's, with a focus on making money rather than groundbreaking ideas.
  • However, Nadella has proven to be both a technocrat and a visionary, leading Microsoft to success.

What are you guys doing? Are you nuts?

I've been expecting an email and opened outlook on my PC to see if it had arrived. I clicked the first new message in my inbox, but it redirected me to a new browser page. I assumed I'd clicked something else accidently and went back, reading the "email" slowly this time and noticing it wasn't what I was expecting. So I clicked the email to read it and again a web page opened. This time I stopped and scanned the pane slowly and noticed a freaking tiny "Ad" icon in the upper corner of the "message", and the actual email I had been waiting for was below that.

I...I don't even have any words for this. Between bloating Edge to the point the poor things falling apart and renaming things as soon as you turn around in enterprise, I've freaking about had it. Good freaking grief! If you are going to put ads on my PC, or sorry, "This PC" as we call it now, and put those ads in productivity products, shove them off somewhere else, make them a different colour or anything else! Nobody wants to be in their inbox and have an ad masquerading as an email and taking priority slot. This is why I rarely use any of your products built into Windows. Freaking ads everywhere, even after you pay for it!

Edit: This is what I mean, and it's even worse in dark mode to spot:

March 2023: no more 30-day free trail for Xbox Game Pass

November 2023: Stopped giving free Azure certificates

November 2023: Discontinued free game pass for MS employees which reverted later by Phil Spencer

December 2023: Killed (Almost) Microsoft rewards Program

Got any clue why Microsoft's on track to get rid of free perks? I know it's a business, but all this stuff happening in the past few months seems off. Is Microsoft seeing some wild moves in the financial market? I mean, they did just report one of the best quarter earnings in company history.

Hi ya'll

Is Microsoft Copilot safe from an IT security perspective? it's supposedly only supposed to be using data from the current user's M365 tenant. But what about the data traveling out to the LLM module? I'm sure Microsoft has payed a great deal of attention to secure it, but before enablng it in our tenant, what do you guys think from a pure IT security perspective? should we wait longer?

THANK YOU

I've started working as a software engineer at level 59 at Microsoft this year. It's only been a few months but I already want to switch my team. I don't really like my manager, the product I'm working on, and most importantly my work location. It feels like I'm wasting my time here.

I want to know how feasible it is to be able to switch your team at Microsoft. Is just applying to a bunch of job openings on the job portal with my Microsoft account enough? Coz I don't have any connections currently.
