Hey everyone, wanted to make a quick reminder post and announcement about stuff in regards to FGF Giveaways since there was a small bit of discourse about them.

A little reminder, FGF Giveaways are not typical posts to FGF. There seems to be a couple of people that somehow missed this thing we've been doing for seven plus years now. These are bonus offers for the FGF community where I (or any other mod if they have wished) contact developers/publishers/stores/etc and see if they would want to do something directly with our community. These events are not within the general rules of FGF because a public raffle isn't really anything we can limit for our users, however an FGF Giveaway is meant for just us, so it was something I wanted to put into practice ages ago, and majority of users have positive experiences and reactions with. I know we had some growth recently, so it might have been missed, but these are exceptions that are special for the FGF community. We have also voted on these in the past, and they obviously went the "pro FGF Giveaways route". These are not going anywhere.

For full transparency, these giveaways have on many occasions lead to me getting a test key/version of something being given away. They haven't ever been a deciding factor in doing them, but have happened. See a list here.

There is at least one more planned FGF Giveaway coming soon that I am very excited about and look forward to sharing soon!

If you are a user that for some reason doesn't want to see these rarely occurring posts, then there are a couple of things you can do.

You could use the new filter I made for the FGF Giveaway flair I just put together. You can find it in the sidebar (at least on old.reddit) at the top with the other filters with two methods of use. Or you can directly visit it via the link here - . Here is an image of the link(s) in the sidebar if you are lost somehow -

The first url for it is for old.reddit styling and the alt method is for new.reddit.

Using the browser extension "Reddit Enhancement Suite", you can filter out keywords. In this context, you could block the phrase "FGF Giveaway", and you should be good.

Alternatively, simply ignoring it if you aren't interested is also valid, but having these optional means of cutting them out can work better for some.

Hope that helps, it was weird to see some anger about something that has been a part of FGF for years. These sorts of events have helped out indie developers, publishers, stores and more while being mutually beneficial for FGF in terms of growth, and of course in terms of having a small promotional event within our community. Thanks for using FGF, and best of luck with the Run Tekila Run! giveaway that is currently ongoing!

EDIT: I'm off to bed for the night but can happily say that I should have enough sign-ups for now. Feel free to continue to sign-up though if you wish though. Thank you so much! <3

Hello there everyone! Hope this isn't too annoying of a post to see, but I am in need of some help from the FGF community.

For the past couple months, I have been working on an Android application that I intend on using with FreeGameFindings. I'm not expecting it to be completely game changing, but it's something I have wanted to do for a long time and could possibly lead to more down the line. I don't want to dive into what it really is too early, so I'll leave it at that. The main thing there is that I hope to share it really soon!

There's an issue with this scenario though, you need to get people to sign up to try the application for it to be approved on the google play store. Considering that, I need your help! I have created a form for users to submit to if they are interested in trying the app during this closed beta period. I'm unsure of what you actually need to do during this phase, but my hope is that you simply try it out and test the features on your device. You're welcome to sign-up so long as you have an Android 7 or above device. Preferably 8 and above though.

If you're interested in trying it out, please sign up at this google form:

I need a minimum of 20 testers, with a max of 100. I don't think I'll be shooting too high for this as I hope to have it properly out ASAP. Only held back by the two-week period for beta testing.

It is worth noting that an email is required in here.

Worth noting: The application is pretty basic and doesn't send me anything. It can save some very small data to a local database on your device and can request permission to send notifications to it as well. Notifications are toggleable, so if you wish to disable them, that option is there. Uninstalling the application to my knowledge will remove everything with it, so no worries of remnants I think.

Down the road I do think it will be worth making an iOS version, but I have no experience with it as of right now. For the time being, this is only open to Android users.

Hey everyone, we're keeping last year's tradition going with a look back at the year, highlighting the most popular freebies, and sharing some cool stats. If you're curious, keep reading! Feel free to post your favorite freebie moments of the year in the comments!

Before we get going, we want to thank all of you for another great year and creating this nice corner of the internet together. Here's to you and to even more free games in 2024!

In 2023, FreeGameFindings gained around 42.000 new subscribers. The highest gain in new subscribers in a single day happened on October 20, with 2881 users joining our subreddit that day. Welcome all of you!

Views:

We know that many of you visit our subreddit without actively participating (which is totally fine!), and we can definitely see this in our subreddit views. This year, over 1 million users stopped by our subreddit. In an average month we saw around 143.000 unique users visit our subreddit. We were most frequently visited by users from the US, Brazil and Canada. Together, you voted around 500.000 times on posts and comments.

We had a total of over 21.5 million page views this year on our subreddit, an average of about 1.8 million each month. The peak is in December with the Epic daily freebies, pushing page views close to 3 million for this month. It's great to see everyone engaging with our subreddit in their own way, whether by actively participating or just quietly enjoying what's here.

Unique visitors and total pageviews on FGF in 2023

Platform:

There are several different ways you can visit FGF, and we see all options being used in the image above. This year, we've noticed a change in your preferences. About half of you (that's 15% less than last year) are using new reddit, while around 35% (10% more than last year) like hanging out on mobile (either through the Reddit app or a mobile browser). The remaining 15% (up by 5% from last year) are keeping it classic and visiting us from old reddit. Cool to see the diverse ways you connect with us!

Posts:

In 2023, we had 138 different users submitting a total of 1102 posts, that's around 3 freebies every day! Of these posts, 628 were for free games, 142 for free DLC, 221 for various in-game freebies, 78 were Public Service Announcements (PSA), and 33 posts were for other things (FGF Giveaways, alpha/beta, and more).

Now, let's talk about the places with the most free games. Steam again tops the list, thanks to loads of giveaways organised by external sites, but here's the breakdown of free games posted on each platform this year (including restocks):

Free games per platform:

| Platform | Free Games | |

|

| | Steam | 249 | | IndieGala | 100 | | Itch.io (without megathread) | 96 | | Epic Games | 92 | | GOG | 35 | | Nintendo | 15 | | GX.games | 11 | | Xbox | 6 | | Ubisoft | 2 |

Curious about the folks finding all these freebies? Well, here's the list of users who've made the most posts on the subreddit this year:

Top 10 Submitters:

| User | Posts | |

|

| | 1. /u/MeguminShiro | 378 | | 2. /u/Fhczvyd474374846 | 107 | | 3. /u/Saulios | 75 | | 4. /u/ColinLab & /u/thalesulisses | 41 | | 5. /u/EinHaDe & /u/yogurtsapien | 29 | | 6. /u/RegionalPrices | 20 | | 7. /u/Betoonit & /u/FearlessShift8 | 19 | | 8. /u/cubsonyt | 18 | | 9. /u/Clownski_GOG & /u/Takkie79 | 12 | | 10. /u/gusitoguay | 10 |

Some freebies are more popular than others. On the whole, we see this year that Epic Games freebies are in high demand and always get a lot of upvotes, comments and views. So it is no surprise that many of these posts ended up in the list of highest upvoted posts on FGF this year. But there are some other ones as well:
