Edit: MrOtherGuy was very generous and made this addon! BmBGone, github repo.

I'd like an addon where I can right click on a folder and see a context menu item to delete all the duplicate bookmarks in it. The only addons I've found have their own pages to scan all bookmarks for duplicates. I only want to delete duplicates in specific folders.

Hi,

Recently i accidentally messed up my system on Linux and had to re-install it, i backed up my Firefox profiles before re-installing. Now i tried to follow the following guide that is made my Mozilla about restoring Firefox profiles to a new PC https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/back-and-restore-information-firefox-profiles, after following the steps i find that not everything is kept. For example, the extensions i have installed were there but it was like i just installed them since they had none of the previous data of my old Firefox install. Another apparent example is the firefoxcss that i had previously in my computer didn't seem to work (i probably have to re-enable it). in my profile i ticked the option for deleting cookies every time i close Firefox, while this works, i think it works too well because it resets Firefox entirely, like it will even remove extension data if i did any modifications to them, and will give me the welcome to Firefox screen thingy.

So i was wondering if there was a possible fix for it somehow since i don't want to re-do my profiles manually.

We had this back in the Reddit days and I miss it since I would catch up to the latest experimental features that I can turn on through about:config via these discussions, if they any other site that can show new experimental features for nightly lmk :3.

Starting December 14, 2023, extensions marked as Android compatible on addons.mozilla.org (AMO) will be openly available to Firefox for Android users.

“We’ve been so impressed with developer enthusiasm and preparation,” said Giorgio Natili, Firefox Director of Engineering. “Just a few weeks ago it looked like we might have a couple hundred Android extensions for launch, but now we can safely say AMO will have 400+ new Firefox for Android extensions available on December 14. We couldn’t be more thankful to our developer community for embracing this exciting moment.”

In anticipation of the launch of open extensions on Android, we just added a link to “Explore all Android extensions” on AMO’s Android page to make it easy to discover new content. And just for fun and to offer a taste of what’s to come, we also released a couple dozen new open extensions for Android. You can find them listed beneath the Recommended Extensions collection on that AMO Android page. Try a few out!

Tl;Dr:

In about:config, I changed these preferences:

  • widget.non-native-theme.gtk.scrollbar.round-thumb: false - This makes the scrollbar not have rounded edges
  • widget.non-native-theme.gtk.scrollbar.thumb-size: 1 - This makes the scrollbar ‘chonkier’ within the scrollbar region
  • widget.non-native-theme.scrollbar.size.override: 20 - This increases the scrollbar region size. Larger number = wider scrollbar
  • Make sure widget.gtk.overlay-scrollbars.enabled is set to false - This should have been set to false when you enabled “Always show scrollbars”

On Windows, Firefox follows the system setting (System Settings > Accessibility > Visual Effects > Always show scrollbars).

This is a plugin I found recently and really enjoy. It gives you the opportunity to redirect several webpages to alternatives. For example Youtube to FreeTube or Piped. If I search for youtube in Firefox, FreeTube automatically opens and shows me my feed. I like it, I use it, I can recommend it.

what are some good alternatives for enhancer for youtube since it's not available in firefox addons anymore?

the only features about it that i care about are

  • the volume booster
  • disable autoplay
  • prevent videos loaded in background tabs from automatically playing
  • prevent videos loaded in the foreground tab from automatically playing as well
  • completely stop videos instead of only preventing autoplay
  • pause videos playing in background tabs when a video starts playing in the foreground tab
  • automatically enable youtube's ‘theater mode’
  • automatically expand the video player
  • use the available space based on the viewport dimensions to expand the video player
  • convert shorts

the adblocker i just use ublock origin for anyway and the dark mode i just use dark reader

Firefox users are reporting an 'artificial' load time on YouTube videos. YouTube says it's part of a plan to make people who use adblockers "experience suboptimal viewing, regardless of the browser they are using."

465

Edit: Replies to this thread indicate this is not fully correct as it exists on all browsers; and is likely an ad thing.

Google slows down Firefox users when watching YouTube....

I'm sure its common knowledge by now that whatever you write in text boxes on customer support chats can be seen by whoever is on the other side, without or before hitting send. Don't you think that's a breach of privacy?! I imagine it isn't too difficult to implement a fix for it: The browser (like Firefox) could choose not to upload the user input to wherever the website links to, without user input (like click a send button).

The Firefox extension API explicitly requires user actions before an extension can do things like open popup windows.

Today, when I navigated to amazon.com on Firefox for Android, I received a jarring message that I could "try" a new service, Fakespot, on the app.

Fakespot is littered with privacy issues.

Among other things, FakeSpot/Mozilla was forced to admit:
"We sell and share your personal information"

Fakespot's privacy policy allows them to store and/or sell:

  • Your email address
  • Your IP address
  • "Protected chacteristics"
    ie gender, sexuality, race...
  • Data scraped from across the web
  • Account IDs
  • Things you bought
    (This is sold to advertisers)
  • Things you considered buying
    (This is sold to advertisers)
  • Your precise location
    (This is sold to advertisers)
  • Inferences about you
    (This is sold to advertisers)

Right before Mozilla acquired them, Fakespot updated their privacy policy to allow transfer of private data to any company that acquired them. (Previous Privacy Policy here. Search "merge" in both.)

People donate to Mozilla because they believe in the company's stated goals. Why were the donations put into an acquisition of a company with this kind of privacy policy? And why has Mozilla focused on bundling it as bloat into their browser? Now that Brave is in hot water for becoming bloated, Mozilla should buck the trend, not follow it.

For a long time Firefox Desktop development has supported both Mercurial and Git users. This dual SCM requirement places a significant burden on teams which are already stretched thin in parts. We have made the decision to move Firefox development to Git.

  • We will continue to use Bugzilla, moz-phab, Phabricator, and Lando
  • Although we'll be hosting the repository on GitHub, our contribution workflow will remain unchanged and we will not be accepting Pull Requests at this time
  • We're still working through the planning stages, but we're expecting at least six months before the migration begins

Currently still in Nightly and only on 'Copy Link'. Still nice progress though.

Started this morning. All of my personal tools like nextcloud and RSS reader were blocked, and I had to go manually override that screen for each one. Unacceptable.

Had it saved on my hard drive for years and recently re-discovered it. Seems to be from 2011 (!!)

Google is getting worse by the year, but it seems even back then some people were already seeing where things were going.

Chrome does not do it either but are we supposed to be the ones that start a new trend or the ones that follow the trend?

I made a post into their feature request section about how important it is for privacy and security. It is perfectly possible to do but they are not interested in doing.

What I asked was that they provide a feature that allows users to opt in to encrypt all browsing data including history, passwords, cookies, etc. With this feature I can only access my browser information after I open up Firefox and provide my encryption password.

How would this help? Well, there could be viruses that can read Firefox browsing history and cookies and send that to the server. With this feature enabled, one can be even more safer.

There is an option to encrypt Passwords. Thats not enough, every other piece of browsing data should also be encrypted.

All the incognito browser windows share the same "session" in Firefox. So say you open an Incognito window to browse Facebook or something, then you open another Incognito window, this new incognito window is linked to the previous incognito window, meaning you are logged into Facebook at that new Incognito window as well. This is because, as I explained before, all the incognito windows share the same "session"

The only way to clear incognito window is to close ALL of them and then create a new incognito window. You dont have to close the main non incognito Firefox window though, just close all the incognito windows. Then open a new one, now your previous session is destroyed and you are new again.

You may know it but its not that common knowledge as it should have been
