not comment-op, but often community centers, gyms, and yoga studios have meditation sessions. google maps can help you out. There are a lot of different types of meditation out there fwiw.

There's all different kinds of meditation tho... If I try to "let it out" I tend to spiral, so for cases like that there are practices that help you redirect the thoughts. In other practices yes, you do confront them, often checking in for guidance by someone experienced. In other practices you try to think about them without any "ego / identity". etc.

GOP do not fight Fascist

It's worth remembering there was a "Never Trump" movement among Republicans, and it folded as soon as Trump won.

Downvoted for the Pearl Jam reference. weAreNotTheSame.jpg

on twitch, midnightsumo has an emoticon with Ura's face and lots of hearts around it, so you may not be the only one...

Ura is an artist, I just want to see him stay healthy and creative for as long as possible.

Like his bout on day 5.... after being strangled for a couple seconds, he just takes a couple steps and POOF! His opponent magically disappears...

Two of my favorite rikishi! Wasn't sure who to cheer for. Happy with how it turned out, tho.

The idea is what is key in comedy.

Dunno... execution is pretty important too...

That's right, the July 2025 Grand Sumo tournament in Japan has begun!

Unfortunately I can't commit to posting about it every day. But here's where/how you can follow the tournament!

Live:

  • try searching on twitch, this tourney there are at least 3 different streamers providing video feeds with commentary, and it's fun to have a community to chat with in real time. The top matches start around 3am US Eastern Time though.

Video Clips:

  • NHK streams a replay of the top-tier bouts (with English commentary) on their web site several times during the following day. You can see their schedule here: https://www3.nhk.or.jp/nhkworld/en/tv/ look for "Grand Sumo highlights." After the first day, those streams are posted here: https://www3.nhk.or.jp/nhkworld/en/tv/sumo/ and here: https://www.youtube.com/@NHKWORLDJAPAN/videos

  • NHK immediately posts clips with Japanese commentary listed in Japanese - look here: https://www.nhk.jp/p/ts/Z8WRRJ9K96/blog/bl/p781bLebx4/list/ Automated translations work well enough here to find the right day, otherwise look for something like: 7月14日 which in this case refers to the 7th month and the 14th day (July 14th). If there are no videos there, it might be bc the bout hasn't happened yet and it's just a preview. Automated translation doesn't work that well on sumotori names, but this is a great opportunity to learn them by sight!

  • JSA immediately posts the highest-ranked 10+ matches listed in Japanese with no commentary, here: https://www.youtube.com/@sumo-video/videos

  • youtuber DonDon posts the "best 10" matches listed in English with replays including on-screen English analysis; those are listed here: https://www.youtube.com/@dondonsumo2/videos These are usually posted within a couple hours. After the first day, the video is removed from the listing but it will probably still be up (if you bookmarked it for example.)

I don't even use Pixelfed, but its growth is kind of interesting to me:

The ebb lasted a lot longer than I was rooting for. But now it seems to have caught a recent uptick. Still slight in terms of its maximum peak, but respectable: 47K Monthly Active Users. (about the same as the total number of MAUs on Lemmy!)

Furthermore, it's also reflected in the half-year Active Users, meaning it's not just people who signed in a couple months ago who are now checking back in -- looks like brand-new active participants.

Any idea what caused this? Another "migrate" campaign? Did Instagram do something stupid again? Or is it just a data glitch?

  • First of all, a lot of the videos that have been linked to during the tournament will probably be removed sometime in a week or two. Don't know why they do this but they do. So take one last look, while you can!
  • According to The Mainichi, the JSA's Yokozuna Deliberation Council unanimously recommended that Onosato be declared a Yokozuna. That is expected to be ratified on Wednesday.
  • Here's a nice video story from NHK about internal refugees (kids) in Ukraine who are training in sumo
  • finally, after the March tournament I posted some movie/show suggestions, some amateur sumo links, and some sumo-related exercises that you might want to check out.

Image: Onosato with the May tournament cup.

Awright! See you next tournament!
