I've also got a degree in physics and I think it's a valid if kinda wonky use of the word study. They studied whether or not GR allowed this specific thing and that's enough to say it's physically possible. It's not just publishing an idea so much as proving the validity of it within current models, to me a study implies investigation of some kind and that's definitely what went on here.

I've definitely heard it used this way before, even if it is less common. I wouldn't say it's an unwritten rule so much just that people have learnt to infer that there's some direct observation going on.

I don't think his personal accomplishments really matter in the face of his support for the far right, crushing hatred of trans people, calling people pedophiles and the absurd amount of misinformation and bigotry that he promotes on xitter.

If SpaceX needs an absolute piece of shit like him in order to succeed, then there shouldn't be a SpaceX.

Didn't seem to doesn't necessarily mean it didn't happen, it can be difficult to quantify. Most people don't notice a lot of the constant large scale ecological devastation that does happen.

The real concern is that even if it was fine in one location, that can't reliably be assumed to be the case for other ecosystems. This issue is really complicated, we've acted hastily in the past and done some insane lasting damage so I'd say it's best to be careful.

All that said, even if I'm vegan and this whole thing makes me extremely uncomfortable, working to eradicate malaria is objectively good.

Ah my favourite AJJ quote: "Hope is for presidents and dreams are for people who are sleeping"

That's the best part, you have way more timelines where you aren't the MC so there's basically a 0% chance you're in one now.

It's wild to me that corporations and governments can hold hands and be openly evil together, and people still think we can somehow regulate our way out of this, as if the last few decades of trying isn't enough of an indication that it's never going to happen.

Depending on the mass of the black hole, the "shell" doesn't need to be a shell it could be effectively completely solid with an atom sized black hole at the centre.

PBH's as discussed in this article have pretty wild mass ranges, so anything is possible. It's entirely possible to have black holes so small they can't easily absorb new matter as they're smaller than protons. Tiny black holes only have large surface gravity, nothing noteworthy at a distance.

Judging from the other comments it's not for everyone, but personally I love my Wednesdays off. For me it's mostly about dealing with accumulated fatigue due to a health condition though, and I definitely agree about the errands. When I have lots of medical appointments they're so easy to schedule lol

I'm really not sure, I'm not the biggest theory person tbh. Depending on what you're thinking of, that could just be anarchy.

I don't want to assume what you mean, but if you're perhaps talking about something along the lines of following and listening to experts, then that's understood to be a positive thing to us anarchists. To use a painfully fresh example, following scientists/medical professionals on public health decisions, rather than conspiracy theorists

This is essentially why I'm an anarchist, it literally puts everyone on the same level and people who are put in places of responsibility report to everyone below them, and that responsibility can be recalled at any time.

I find people become communists over time and with some persuasion, but after learning about anarchy I found I already believed in every facet of it. If you have basic human decency, then you'll likely be surprised how much you believe in it too.
