It's OK dog. The thing is, you figured it out. You're better off than those that never figured it out. Now you just gotta move on from where you're at.

Choices - we make them, chances - we take them

Some are mistakes, some we celebrate them

We don't look back, cause so much we facin

I always stay proud of myself, I'm yelling, "Fuck regret!"

Someone overhearing this now knows that if they reach a Halloween party, they will be briefly immortal.

Excel is the one good piece of software in MS Office.

Last time I used MS Office was 10 months ago, and it had a bunch of annoying "features" related to sharing, etc. But PowerPoint has always had some great authoring tools. Sometimes if I was writing an article in LaTeX, I'd still do the figures in PowerPoint.

LibreOffice is a solid substitute, though.

FWIW I only ever used those services if they accepted a prepaid credit card. OpenAI didn't accept prepaid cards when I tried, not sure about Poe. Just something to think about.

Emo nights are a thing around the US, not sure about the crowd age.

Those Aztec weapons are awesome. We need more movies taking place in pre-Columbian times.

Agreed; and Lemmy communites require not only seeding, but tending by a dedicated poster. There are plenty of dead places where someone created the community, maybe made a post or two, then never posted again.

A few important people providing updates on reality

The problem is if those people get burned out for carrying a sub-Lemmy by themselves.

Welcome to the community, fam!

Sometimes when you try to subscribe to a community, it'll just keep saying "request pending" but if you look in your list of subscribed communities you'll see it there. I think it's a known bug.

Hi there, I was posting on !fullmoviesonyoutube@lemm.ee for a while, and I'd post links to youtube videos, and it'd automatically make thumbnails so that was cool.

But then "something changed" and it no longer made thumbnails, at least when seen on the web interface. But sometimes it does? The following image shows an example. In the first post, it has no thumbnail but in the second case it does:

MY QUESTION: how do make a Lemmy post to a video (especially on youtube) such that the post includes a thumbnail?

  • Either automatically-generated, or custom-made by me.
  • Preferrably via a computer client rather than phone.

Hi, I was thinking of getting a Framework 13 and putting Linux on it.

So I was looking at the Ubuntu installation instructions and it says a "Storage Expansion Card" is required to install. I click "view" to see what that is, and the item page says it's a 250GB Type. The URL provided goes to a dead link, but I think that means a "250GB (2nd Gen) Storage Expansion Card" for $45 on the configuration page. I've installed Ubuntu before, but I just used a plain USB stick, and the instructions aren't clear on whether that's enough or whether I need to use their specific drive for some reason.

So my question is: when I'm configuring a Framework 13, do I need to add a 250GB expansion card, or can I just use a USB stick that I already have (to install Ubuntu)? Thanks.

One of these links should work for you:

Looks like @clark@midwest.social started this a week ago. Examples of and discussions on the classic "The Outbursts of Everett True" 2-panel comics from the early 1900s, in which a portly man objects violently to everyday wrongdoing.

... I think learning about Nicholas II really contextualized fascism for me. The tsar was a traditionalist authoritarian rather than a fascist, but he really shows, I think, how ordinary people can hold totalitarian beliefs and still be ‘good people’ (note that I would never call the tsar a good person, but bear with me). Oftentimes people say “X is fascism” but quickly backpedal if real-world comparisons are drawn between family or friends. “They’re a good person!” they object, “Just misguided! Not like the other rubes!”

But Nicholas II shows the face of genuinely conservative authoritarianism. The face of the mediocre man, who puts no deeper thought into his beliefs than to parrot what he was raised with and stubbornly resist all challenge to that. He was not exceptionally cruel in terms of personality. I think probably a significant minority of ‘nice’ people, in Nicholas II’s circumstances, would have turned out just as big a piece of shit as he was. ...

Vocals by Leon Thomas. The entire song is also worth listening to.

virtually all of [Sanders'] recordings as a leader from this late 1960s/early 1970s period contain some kind of African percussion, and other non-western features such as Leon Thomas' distinctive yodelling, apparently learnt from African pygmies.
