There is no "if," he did cheat on his taxes for over a million dollars. Yes, go after all of them! The only reason Hunter got away for so long was because of who his dad is, so kind of karmic that it came back around for the same reason. Hunter received far more leniency for a long time for drugs, gun, and financial crimes due to his wealth and families influence and Joe Biden was instrumental in making sure poor people who do the same thing get punished harshly. Until it was HIS son, then all the excuses came out.

Also, if you read the fucking article yourself, it never goes into details on the tax charges.

This article does not, but none of this is new. We have known about these crimes for years. You displayed absolutely zero curiosity about what crimes he did in your haste to whitewash Biden's hypocrisy. We will not get better politicians or leaders until we demand it.

I do not care that Hunter was not a politician, though that never prevented him from getting paid off his family name and only avoided punishment for so long because of who his father is. I do not care why the charges come about, these rich fucks need to pay. Maybe if the Democrats were willing to see that the rich and powerful actually face consequences Trump and all these right wing grifters might have been dealt with before they came to power. But back when Trump and Kushner were donating to Democratic campaigns none of them managed to give a shit. We should strive for a higher standard of morality than Donald fucking Trump.

I don't know anything about the tax evasion conviction. If it was serious, then sure, fuck him.

If you can't even be bothered to read an article about it why should any weight be given to your opinion. The tax fraud was 1.4 million dollars and he actively lied on his returns to avoid payment. He effectively stole over a million dollars, fuck him and all tax cheats.

so its not that much different than all the pardons Trump did in his first term for all the fraud convictions.

I'm glad we hold our leaders to such rigorous standards. As long as Trump is corrupt and using power to benefit himself it's fine if we do it!

Didn't Biden say that he would not pardon Hunter? Was he lying the whole time?

One of the first things Trump did was release $1 billion in military aid to Egypt that had beenb frozen due to Sisi's human rights abuses. He was also one of Trump's first guests at the Whitehouse after he was elected.

[–] One_Honest_Dude@lemmy.world 17 points 3 months ago

Correct, which is why trump has been trying to have his state charges changed to federal charges.

Why would trump being immune protect Jeff Clark from consequences? The supreme Court didn't even state that what Trump did was legal, only that he's immune from prosecution.

As expected, but someone has to say it. 🤣😓

This is very misleading. All she said is that she would sign the border bill that had been negotiated and had broad bipartisan support before Trump had the Senate kill it to try to help his campaign. That bill extends the timeline for spending the 600 million already appropriated for the wall under the trump administration. This is a far cry from Trump's 18 billion wall spanning the entire border. I don't support this bill but I think it is dishonest to claim she has changed her position, merely accepting what was negotiated in Congress and her liking other provisions in it.

If you think the pro-genocide orange man is going to care more about your desires than Biden, I have bad news for you...

Nobody thinks that, but he is not going to make it worse. Israel is running their pogrom at the exact speed they want, Biden, and therefore the US, are not doing anything to slow them down. He gives some minor admonishment and his staff leaks to the press the he is "frustrated with Netenyahu" as if that matters. They say they will sanction some of the illegal colonizers in the West Bank, but then a couple weeks later decide not to. We continue to give Israel bombs and missiles and any other help they need in their mass murder. We are building a pier in Gaza so we can get aid past the Israeli blockade but then Biden says it will be under the control of Israel, so it will not be any more effective than any other crossing. Netenyahu wants the war to continue as it is preventing his corruption charges and the longer he can continue the better chance he has of getting his judicial and government reform in place to further consolidate his power and eventually quash any chance he will be held to account. Forcing the Democrats to actually make policy and take action to resolve the apartheid in Palestine is the only potential path in our broken political system. If you are so concerned this is going to hand Trump victory then start pressuring the centrist Dems to enforce a ceasefire now. Gain the youth vote, gain the anti genocide vote.

of course it's not fair, but refusing to vote for the least bad available option is insanity when the stakes are this high

That is literally the only way to get politicians to support the policies and issues that you want them to. The only thing you have that they want is your vote, they only way you will move them on an issue is if you convince them they won't get it otherwise.

Why is all the pressure to compromise or accept bad candidates focused on the left? Why aren't you encouraging the main stream Democrats and "independents" to agree to stop aiding Israel's genocide to prevent Trump's winning? Why is it only progressive or the left that are required to vote against their conscience to save democracy when the center could just as easily compromise to prevent fascism?
